Whistling Straits is spectacular. I hope fans behave themselves and the USA wins in a rout.

Unlike most professional events on the Tour, the Ryder Cup is played for pride, not money. Being on a national (or international) team is one of the greatest honors a professional golfer can earn. Above all the (mostly healthy) enthusiasm surrounding this event, one must remember that these players are, by and large, friends for whom the importance of the game at large is paramount. Do we professionals like to beat our friends? Yes! But in a classy way, like Nicklaus.

And if we lose, that's a part of competition, too. You do your best. Enjoy it if you win, but know that in two years, the other guys will be back, more determined than ever. Golf is a game. It is supposed to be--and usually is--fun. Play hard, then have a beer with your opponent.

The headline says, Whistling Straights. The Sporting News has had at least 3 hours to correct this mistake that is repeated in the article text.

Golf seems to be the last haven for patriotism and sanity. It’s great fun to watch this event. Pride and country are more important than largess. Thanks for posting. (I KNEW you were watching)

The teams were picked weeks ago, and a couple of the U.S. players picked aren't having the best of years. At least they left Ricky Fowler off the team. I think Fowler only made one cut this year.

Victory isn't quite yet in sight for the United States at the Ryder Cup, but it's a lot closer than anyone would have expected at this point in the tournament. With all team play complete, the United States leads Europe 11-5, an all-but-insurmountable lead heading into Sunday's singles matches. Through the first three rounds of the Ryder Cup, everything turned up America's way. Three straight 3-1 sessions staked the U.S. to a 9-3 lead heading into the Saturday afternoon fourball sessions. The Americans scuffled, but managed to split the four sessions. Every Ryder Cup has its share of heroes, and Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- On the 13th tee box Friday afternoon during four-ball -- after Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton had hit their tee shots -- Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau huddled for a chat. Shortly after they finished, Bryson reached in his bag, pulled out his driver and turned to the crowd as he lifted it over his head like a triumphant medieval lieutenant returning from the field of battle with his sword raised to the city. The gallery, of course, roared its approval. DeChambeau proceeded to try and drive the 394-yard par 4. Golf's foremost exhibitionist had finally found a perfect event for his skillset and his disposition.

The British energy industry is headed for a big shakeup as wholesale natural gas prices have been climbing since the beginning of this year. The latest gas price at the Dutch TTF hub, a European benchmark, gained on Monday to trade at 73.150 euros ($85.69) per megawatt-hour, close to the record high seen last week. The benchmark has risen a whopping 250 percent since January. British Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng felt it necessary to assure the British public that there would be gas to heat their homes this winter. “There is absolutely no question of the lights going out or people being unable to heat their homes,” Kwarteng told the House of Commons.

The U.S., U.K. and Australia have announced the formation of the AUKUS alliance, in open concert against Chinese expansion. “Britain has entered into a security pact with the US and Australia to counter China that will involve building a nuclear powered submarine fleet and wide-ranging projects on cyber warfare, artificial intelligence and quantum computing.” “The first programme of the AUKUS alliance will be the construction of a fleet of nuclear-powered submarines for the Australian navy, with American and British companies taking part in the manufacturing process.” This marks a radical departure for Australian defense policy, whose navy

During a joint press conference on Wednesday in which President Joe Biden, joined virtually by Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia and Prime Minister Boris Johnson, announced the creation of a trilateral security partnership AUKUS, Biden seemed too forget Morrison's name. Advertisement After finishing his statement, Johnson handed it over to Biden. Biden thanked Johnson, and said to Morrison, "I want to thank that fellow down under. Thank you very much pal," not calling him by name. During the brief press conference, the three announced that as the first step of the trilateral partnership between the countries, they would be creating a fleet of nuclear powered submarines.

One does not wish to join the pandemic of viral fear whipped up by our political leaders, collusive medical “experts,” and the grossly irresponsible and programmatically ignorant media conglomerate. And yet, there is good reason to fear being inscribed in the category of “the unvaccinated”—the New Jews at risk of disenfranchisement and worse in the increasingly fascist temper of the times. From my perspective, this is not a frivolous analogy. Growing up Jewish in a small town in the north of Quebec under the sway of an ultramontane clergy, I know what it is to be publicly mocked, prohibited as an undesirable from entering certain local establishments, and fighting my

One recalls C.S. Lewis’ dystopian novel That Hideous Strength, a longtime favorite of mine, where he speaks of “false writings” and “men maddened with false promises and soured with true miseries.” Lewis held to an apocalyptic vision of moral and intellectual surrender to the idols of mere self-sufficiency and hedonistic indulgence, of a time characterized by the death of meaning and the weakening of belief in a just and merciful God. “The shadow of one dark wing is over all Tellus,” the human spirit is being progressively “enclosed,” as he describes it. There is not much of the Rapture here, little indication of the new Jerusalem prophesied in Revelation.

The victory was McLaren's first since 2012 and Ricciardo's first since he was at Red Bull in 2018. "About time," smiled the happy Australian. "To lead literally from start to finish, I don't think any of us expected that. "To not only win but to get a one-two, it's insane. For McLaren to be on the podium is huge." Old Joe Biden’s handlers are in the process of bringing 94,000 Afghan refugees into the UnitedStates, and really, only a racist, bigoted “Islamophobe” could possibly object to such a grand humanitarian gesture, right? Yet a migrant couple in Pennsylvania illustrated Thursday that there is ample reason to temper our enthusiasm over Old Joe’s welcome mat: Shahidul Gaffar, a naturalized citizen, and his wife, Nabila Khan, a legal permanent resident, both from Bangladesh, were sentenced to federal prison for sending nearly $5,600 to Khan’s brothers, who happen to be Islamic State (ISIS) jihadis. As Gaffar was sentenced, he declared: “God bless America, God bless the United States.”

It seems like this warning from the CDC shouldn’t be necessary yet the agency issued an alert to medical professionals to be on the lookout for Afghan refugees with infectious disease symptoms. A few cases of infectious diseases for which most Americans are vaccinated have started popping up among the Afghan evacuees recently brought into the United States. The CDC posted an announcement on its website warning medical professionals and staff of the possibility of Afghan refugees bringing infectious diseases like measles, mumps, and rubella into the country during their evacuation. Most Americans have been vaccinated against all those diseases.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is warning the Republican Party that staying in former President Donald Trump’s thrall will not lead to a viable political future. The Lexington Herald-Leader obtained a preview of Peril, the upcoming book from Bob Woodward and Robert Costa that has already produced a multitude of explosive details on Trump’s last days in office. According to the new excerpt, McConnell is encouraging the GOP to move away from Trumpism, calling the ex-president “a fading brand. Retired. OTTB as they say in Kentucky — off-the-track Thoroughbred.” “There is a clear trend moving,” McConnell said. “Sucking up to Donald Trump is not a strategy that works.”
