Hundreds of firefighters were battling to protect several groves of giant sequoias in California, warning the enormous ancient trees were at risk from out-of-control blazes. A number of separate fires were converging on the California woodland that is home to the huge trees, highlighting the terrifying power of wildfires to consume everything in their path.Incident commanders said the Windy Fire, which has already charred 25,000 acres has burned into the remote Peyrone Sequoia Grove and the Red Hill Grove.

An area in Bridger-Teton National Forest where authorities found remains believed to be 22-year-old Gabby Petito now has a makeshift memorial made of white stones arranged in a cross. The memorial was spotted Monday evening at the Spread Creek Dispersed Campsite. Law enforcement awaits an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday to confirm whether the body belongs to the missing 'van-life' woman. The New York native set out on a road trip with her boyfriend earlier this summer and was last seen alive on August 24. She was reported missing on September 11 after Brian Laundrie, who she was road-tripping with, returned home to Florida without her.

The White House invoked the personal tragedies experienced by President Joe Biden when asked about his response to a drone strike in Afghanistan that killed 10 civilians and declined to say whether someone in the line of command should be held accountable for the errant attack. “As a human being, as a president, as somebody who has overseen loss in a variety of scenarios, both as a leader and personally, his reaction is, it is a tragedy,” press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Monday. Smell something stinky? New Orleans residents certainly do, as garbage has not been collected for thousands of them since Hurricane Ida roared into Louisiana three weeks ago. The stench – which has drawn countless bugs and rats – got so bad in parts of the city last week that lifelong New Orleans resident, Aaron “Louisiana” Grant, joked on Facebook that he and others should stage a garbage parade and dress in trash-themed costumes while depositing their debris at the doors of City Hall. On Wednesday, he created a New Orleans Trash Parade group on Facebook. By Friday night, more than

Top Air Force officials sounded the alarm Monday that the U.S. is rapidly falling behind China in the race to dominate the 21st century, and they suggested that Congress‘ refusal to let go of aging weaponry and planes is a military luxury the country can no longer afford. Such dire warnings from Defense Department officials are common across Washington, with officials trying to justify ever-rising budget requests by laying out a world in which the U.S. slips behind its rivals militarily and needs more money to catch up. But Pentagon watchers say the debate has taken on new clarity and urgency with the chaotic but complete withdrawal of U.S. forces

All this time I’ve been operating on the assumption that the reason they come to the border is because they do intend to stay .Forever, if they can.(Tweet/Video) What Psaki means is that migrants who surrender to the Border Patrol and apply for asylum can, in some circumstances, be summarily expelled under the CDC’s Title 42 pandemic authority. You file your asylum application and then you’re either repatriated or told to get comfortable in Mexico while you await a ruling. Ideally.

A curious characteristic of totalitarian communist regimes is the dearth, if not the total absence, of comedy. No comedy films were ever made in the Soviet Union or in any of the other Communist countries. In fact, cinemas in communist countries were almost always empty, the films being so mind-numbingly abysmal. (One time in Havana, the government allowed American films to be shown in a theater and the lines stretched around the block, whereupon the government arrested the attendees inside the theater.)

Team Biden is asking mayors, governors and tribal leaders to pledge to reduce homelessness in exchange for new federal rental assistance and support for new housing construction. The initiative is called House America, but it should be dubbed Misunderstand America.Yes, housing prices are up post-pandemic: Demand is growing, supply stalled. But that isn’t why there are massive homeless encampments plaguing cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle — and even New York, where the de Blasio administration is forced to play whack-a-mole with tent encampments. Some rough-sleepers would relish permanent housing, yes. But many would also choose to stay on the streets.

The news was heartbreaking and what everyone feared.
On Sunday, a body believed to be that of a missing woman, Gabby Petito, was found a camping area in Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest, near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, who was traveling with her, has meanwhile vanished. He is now the subject of an intensive search in Florida where the couple lived.
Whether law enforcement is officially calling him a suspect in Petito’s death is immaterial and nothing more than the parsing of legally-loaded vocabulary. Police and the FBI are certainly treating him as a suspect. And for good reason.

The pros seem to embrace Biden’s New America, while college ball still evokes the old America. The pros embrace social justice messages, while college ball steers clear.Unlike other pro leagues, the NFL decided to carry on wokeness for the 2021 season. His visit comes as his department announced a series of get-tough steps, including promises of faster deportations, to try to clear out the throng of mostly Haitian immigrants who crossed the Rio Grande and established the beachhead in the U.S.

What is a much larger problem however is when such hoaxes are perpetrated by government. And we’ve had a great deal of that. Manmade environmental hoaxes have evolved from the Coming Ice Age to Acid Rain to Global Warming to Climate Change, with each one being manipulated to scare citizens and implement government policies and programs that never die, despite the fact that posited catastrophes never actually emerge. Democrats have been manipulating Americans fears and goodwill for decades and today we are watching the culmination of that treachery. It’s called Covid and it’s easily the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.

How can you measure President Joe Biden’s sway over the public? Try looking at the impact his attacks on the unvaccinated have had on immunization rates. He’s managed to drive them down. Not that it matters, since the number of new COVID cases is falling, even in states with low vaccination rates.
In his remarkably antagonistic Sept. 9 speech announcing vaccine mandates, Biden did everything he could to disparage and shame the unvaccinated.
He blamed them for overcrowding hospitals and “leaving no room for someone with a heart attack.” He said they were causing “a lot of damage”

NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas criticized the NFL’s decision to play the Black national anthem before the 2021 season-opening and radio host Jason Whitlock told "Fox & Friends Weekend" that he agrees there’s a conversation to be had.
Whitlock spoke with Thomas in an interview Thursday, as part of the "Fearless with Jason Whitlock" podcast, where the former basketball star suggested that playing both national anthems is only dividing the country instead of unifying it.
"He was pointing out the obvious that I think we all agree on," Whitlock said. "You can’t have two national anthems if you want to be one country."

For patients with moderate COVID-19 symptoms, monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatments have proven remarkably successful in decreasing hospitalization and death rates. Moreover, because states and health care providers could order mAb shipments directly from suppliers, they have been utilized to great effect in places that have experienced recent case spikes. In Florida, for example, the CDC indicates that daily COVID deaths plummeted from an August 26 peak of 356 to only 3 on September 17 (graph below). Such success in a red state was obviously galling for the Biden administration, however, so the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) seized the mAb supply ostensibly to achieve “equitable” distribution.

Abdul Rehman, a former engineering student with roots in Afghanistan’s Logar province and the son of a merchant who frequently visited New Delhi on business, was freed from Bagram prison on 15 August.
The Islamic State suicide bomber who killed at least 169 Afghan civilians and 13 United States soldiers outside Kabul airport last month was incarcerated in Afghanistan’s notorious Bagram prison for the past four years, thanks to Indian efforts, Firstpost has learnt through credible intelligence sources.
Senior Indian intelligence sources familiar with the case have told Firstpost that he was handed over to the United States' Central Intelligence Agency by the Research and Analysis Wing in September 2017.

Saturday, Sept. 18 was the date for the “J6 Rally,” organized by a political advocacy group called Look Ahead America. (snip)
Yet the media and the Democrats painted a far more sinister picture. (snip) Anyone with half a brain could see that this was another FBI entrapment scheme, to justify more arrests and more prisoners in solitary confinement awaiting trial for walking benignly through the U.S. Capitol. Social media was full of warnings to stay away from the trap. Even President Trump warned that it was “a setup.”
And as usual, Trump was right. The Daily Mail reported, “Protesters outnumbered by police…as just a handful of demonstrators turn up.”

Politico reports that the Senate parliamentarian, Elizabeth MacDonough, has decided that providing a pathway to legal status and citizenship for illegal immigrants is not a budget-related matter, and therefore cannot be enacted through the “reconciliation” process. This seems to mean that when the Democrats finally get around to passing budget reconciliation legislation, which they can do with a simple Senate majority, it will not include amnesty. To accomplish amnesty, the Dems will need 60 votes, and they don’t have them.

While much of the legislative attention has been on the bipartisan infrastructure deal and the far-left $3.5T reconciliation bill, a more pressing battle is taking shape. In order to avoid default and to pay for all the Democrats’ wildest dreams, the debt ceiling needs to be raised. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has already called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a desperate plea to get Republicans to play along.
He was having none of it though, as McConnell let it be known that Democrats were on their own

Joe Biden’s presidency is hanging by a thread as his entire legislative agenda sits on the knife’s edge of total failure.
As it stands now, the passage of the $3.5 trillion “Build Back Better” budget bill, the party’s cherished “For the People Act” voting rights bill, and the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed by the Senate earlier this summer are all going down to defeat.
The radicals already believe they have compromised enough in reducing their spending demands from an incomprehensible $6 trillion to a slightly less insane $3.5 trillion. They are refusing to back the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill that has a hard deadline

Dr. Anthony Fauci and his boss, NIH Director Francis Collins, appeared on five of the six Sunday shows this week. Despite the fact that we have a de facto hostage situation in Afghanistan, the Pentagon admitted to killing ten civilians in a drone strike, and 13,000 Haitians are sitting under the international bridge in Del Rio, Texas, no one from the Pentagon, the State Department, or Homeland Security is making the rounds on the news shows. This looks like an attempt at image rehabilitation after the FDA resisted political pressure to recommend COVID-19 booster shots for all Americans 16 and older.

Do New York Times reporters not keep tabs on their own paper? Sunday’s Times featured Houston bureau chief J. David Goodman, “Texas Lawmakers, After Shift To Right, Plan More of Same.”
It’s the latest entry in what has amounted to a series of random stories the Times has been constantly running for a decade, all with the same dopey liberal media idea that Texas is running ever-scarily to the right. (Is there any room left to run by now?) The paper’s trend has accelerated under Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.
In July, it was “Can Texas Turn Further Right?

Democrats cannot use their $3.5 trillion spending bill to give millions of immigrants a pathway to citizenship, the Senate´s parliamentarian ruled late Sunday in a crushing blow to the party's agenda. The decision by Elizabeth MacDonough, the Senate´s nonpartisan interpreter of its rules, is a potentially damaging setback for President Joe Biden, congressional Democrats and their allies in the pro-immigration and progressive communities. It badly damages Democrats´ hopes of unilaterally enacting - over Republican opposition - changes letting several categories of immigrants gain permanent residence and possibly citizenship
