‘Out of time’: Air Force confronts
rising China, battles Congress over
outdated aircraft

Original Article

Top Air Force officials sounded the alarm Monday that the U.S. is rapidly falling behind China in the race to dominate the 21st century, and they suggested that Congress‘ refusal to let go of aging weaponry and planes is a military luxury the country can no longer afford. Such dire warnings from Defense Department officials are common across Washington, with officials trying to justify ever-rising budget requests by laying out a world in which the U.S. slips behind its rivals militarily and needs more money to catch up. But Pentagon watchers say the debate has taken on new clarity and urgency with the chaotic but complete withdrawal of U.S. forces

Comments:

The Pentagon arm of the military/industrial complex lets China freely steal our advanced weaponry design, even leaving various examples of same behind in their "botched" withdrawal from Afghanistan. The defense contractor arm of the military/industrial complex, which no doubt helped China steal our technology, stands ready to build even newer weapons. The US government views US citizens as the enemy while flooding the country with illegal aliens and unknown refugees and spending us into oblivion, yet we need to defend ourselves against foreign aggressors, one of which Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark "Medals" Milley has on speed dial to undermine our president. And the same CIA that says China is a threat had no problem at all with the decades' worth of lopsided "free trade" agreements that dismantled our industrial base and built China into what it is today. Is that about right?

Sooper-dooper manned aircraft are an obsolete platform. Unmanned vehicles are faster, quicker, lighter, longer range, not required to have armor plating for the pilot, and most important - a fraction of the cost - so more of them can be deployed. As long as Congress remains nostalgic over the legendary past of our heroic fighter pilots of WWII, they can't make rational decisions. Korea was the last war where fighters made a significant difference - and it was in the role of ground support, strafing the Chinese. OK Desert Storm and the F-15s, but those circumstances were not typical. And the he Air Force hates ground support..

Joint Chief of Staff Mark "Maniac" Milley is most likely spending time reviewing "equitable" transgender policies when he's not lying. China? These two could care less. They want to be hipster woke.

I was a one year old when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. I have heard this same song and dance all of my life. The USAF top brass are still smarting from the decision to make the Space Force a separate branch of the armed forces because they don't have the military space budget to plunder. The current bunch of senior general officers in all the branches are suspect to my way of thinking and their budget proposals need intense scrutiny.

The coming cold war with China will not be like that with the Soviet Union, which began as a potential land invasion from Eastern Europe into the Free World. China isn't going to invade, so where does that leave the Army in the budget battles? “In the same breath, [they] told me that under no circumstances could the — take your pick — C-130s, A-10s, KC-10s or MQ-9s in that senator’s state be retired,” Mr. Kendall said. “Nor could any base in his or her state ever be closed or lose manpower that would cause impact to the local economy.” He isn't wrong. A former shipmate once took an assignment to the Navy's Office Office of Legislative Affairs. Said it was the biggest eye-opener of his career, that what the Navy gets has nothing to do with what the Navy needs.
