Escalator falls at tube stations have increased because Britons are frightened of catching coronavirus if they hold onto the handrails, a London Underground official has said.Managing Director of London Underground Andy Lord told a Transport for London (TfL) safety panel said the underground railway’s biggest risk of harm is: “falls on escalators caused by people who don’t hold the handrail. There is an issue with the perception that the handrail is not clean because of the pandemic.”Mr Lord also said that the second most significant factor to blame for the injuries was drunkenness,

Secondary/tertiary effects which even the “genus” schmoe biden couldn’t anticipate.
Oh well. Plunge ahead. Continue the massive social engineering.
If the going gets too tough, mount bayonets!

Well all the Karens can wear full Haz-Mat suits to protect their pristine selves. But then I guess they'd have to build decontamination chambers in their homes for removing and cleaning those Haz-Mat suits every trip.

Riding on BART (SF Bay Area “Rapid” Transit) before COVID, I noticed people rarely touched the handrails on the escalators. I think it has more to do with the filthy homeless people living in the station and on the trains.

Don't they sell gloves in London? Seems pretty simple to me. Just put them on.

Hey, I have a touch of CDO...(it's just like OCD except the words are in alphabetical order like they should be) and I don't touch anything outside if possible. If I have to, I pull my sleeve down over my hand or I use the back of my hand to open doors or touch handrails. I wash my hands as soon as possible and I've had hand sanitizer in my car for years.
Read the last 4 paragraphs of this story. It's pretty scary that there are government organizations that do nothing but come up with fake scenarios to frighten people into kowtowing to their outlandish rules.

It's a shame how much people have been terrified, like children terrified of the monsters under their beds. And this virus is survived by about 99.8 to 99.9% of those who get it and aren't already seriously ill from other causes.
Your skin is virus proof, if intact. If you can avoid putting your hands in your mouth, or eyes, there is no possible way to "catch it" from a handrail or door handle.
And 'the science' has shown that inanimate objects is not a significant route to infection from this Fauci-ChiCom virus.
A year ago, when they were pumping this 'fear of objects' hot and heavy, I would spray my hands with isopropyl alcohol when I reached my car after a trip out. I wasn't worried at all about getting the virus on my hands, as I kept my hands out of my mouth and eyes. But then it became clear that surfaces don't harbor the virus for more than a few seconds.
Now.....I don't even bother with the washing hands or alcohol treatment. Back to normal life is my motto. I won't live in fear. We don't stay home. We go out to restaurants several times a week, as we have for the whole time, except for six weeks that our foolish county closed all restaurants, putting many out of business, sadly. We shop as needed, we go on vacations as we choose.

There's plenty of nasty stuff to worry about on those rails; it shouldn't be just about covid. Word to the wise--don't touch the rails. Elbows, back of the hand works really well. Gloves too. If you're going to be paranoid or a germaphobe like me, figure it out and do something about it yourself. No need to whine or fear. We live in a freakin punk world.

The virus doesn't survive very long on surfaces. This has been known for over a year. It's an airborne virus.

These are the descendants of the brave Britons who eventually chose to sleep in their owns when the sirens blared during the Blitz because they were tired of trooping down to the Tube tunnels. What has happened in just a couple of generations? Keep calm and carry hand sanitizer.
