College Football and the NFL: Two Different Americas

Original Article

Posted By: Imright, 9/20/2021 1:04:30 PM

Football is back—and so are the fans. America no longer sees empty stadiums on TV, as people return to watching the games in person. But Americans will notice sharp differences between college and professional football, and it’s not just the skill of their players. The pros seem to embrace Biden’s New America, while college ball still evokes the old America. The pros embrace social justice messages, while college ball steers clear.Unlike other pro leagues, the NFL decided to carry on wokeness for the 2021 season. The NBA famously painted Black Lives Matter on its courts and encouraged players to turn their jerseys into social justice billboards.

No social justice nonsense in NASCAR either. Team owners like Petty and Childress laid down the law early on that kneeling during the Anthem would be a firing offense. Of course the Halfrican-American driver Bubba Wallace tried to inject some social justice into the sport, but ever since his infamous noose-in-the-garage incident was found to be a hoax, he's been rather quiet.

Our young people may yet be our salvation for America, as founded. Getting America back on its feet will require time, a lot of time. Its societal and fiscal problems will not be resolved during the upcoming elections because corruption is rampant throughout the government hierarchy.

I must be missing something here. We stopped watching college football a couple of years ago because of how woke it was getting. We are UT fans here in Texas. A couple of years ago, some lie-beral activists starting pushing to get "The Eyes of Texas" banned as the school song. They claimed it was "racist". About half of the football team jumped on this and "demanded" that the song the dropped or they wouldn't play -- BS bluffing of course, but evil woke-ness all the same.. The last game I saw, only the quarterback stayed on the field after a winning game when they played that song. Traditionally, the whole team would have been out there singing along with a big "horns up" sign by each. Maybe they have learned their lesson, and the coaches and AD's have grown a few sets of brass cajones, and stopped this sort of evil insanity in college football. But we have already lost interest. Our football viewing is limited to rooting on our local high school on Friday nights. Thank God, no woke BS there at all!!!

On 9/11/21, I attended a college football game in Texas that involves neither UT or A&M and the patriotism and sportsmanship of the players and fans of both schools was a thing to behold. The visiting team was from a Historically Black College (HBC) and the home fans were very appreciative of the visiting band's halftime show. Like many early season games, the final score was a blowout by the home team, despite the winning coach pulling his starters in the 3rd quarter, and none of the visiting players or fans were in any way taunted or made to feel inferior. It was the most pleasant sporting event I have observed in years. Even the notoriously hot and steamy September Texas weather cooperated to make for a very enjoyable experience. I've been holding my breath in fear that the Woke among us will ruin college football but at least on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, patriotism and sportsmanship were on full display.

Don't watch either pro or college, 4 hours to play a 60 minute game is too long. Commercial timeouts, coaches challenge, change of possession ( another commericial again) The flow off the game is too start and stop.

Re #7, we have solved that with many programs. We record; then watch on at least a 30 minute delayed basis. Gives us lots of running room to fast forward through anything but the game play itself. I have the fastest remote clicking fingers in the West!

College football for the most part is more exciting to watch. The players and fans are in it for their school which at their age means almost everything. It helps their self esteem if their team wins. Plus anything can happen during a college game. Pros seem to go through the motions, but they get paid well win or lose. Look at the smiles on the players of a pro team that just lost. They're laughing and high fiving guys on the team that just beat them. You won't see that after college games.

This is the closest full moon to the autumnal equinox - the moment the sun appears to cross over the celestial equator - on September 22.In the UK, the full moon rose at 19:23 BST and set at 06:52 BST early this morning, but the spectacle will appear full and bright for the next two nights. On average, the moon rises 50 minutes later than sunset each day, but when it is an equinox moon, it can rise as little as 25 minutes after sunset.
