First things first, it is not my intent to outline the entire history of how we got to this place where the intelligence community now acts as the superseding fourth branch of government. Such an effort would be exhausting and only take our discussion away from understanding the current dynamic.
History has provided enough warnings from Dwight D Eisenhower (military aspect), to John F Kennedy (CIA aspect), to Richard Nixon (FBI aspect), to all modern versions of warnings and frustrations from HPSCI Devin Nunes and ODNI Ric Grenell. None of those prior reference points are invalid and all prior documented outlines of historical reference are likely true and accurate.

So that you’ll know where Sundance is going:
Here we pick up the intelligence issues as they manifest after 9/11/01, and highlight how the modern version of the total intelligence apparatus has now metastasized into a fourth branch of government. If we take the modern construct we can highlight how and why the oversight or “check/balance” in the system has become functionally obsolescent.
Factually, the modern intelligence apparatus uses checks and balances in their favor. The checks create silos of proprietary information that works around oversight issues. That’s part of the problem.

What has emerged is a technological network of privileged elite who "produce" just what people need to know to keep them under control. Critical individual influencers within this network determined in 2017 or 2018 that President Trump's outsider nationalist populist political movement was a threat to this control and he needed to be removed from office to "save the country". The intelligence agencies had developed and tested their strategies for "color revolutions" in Ukraine and other former Soviet controlled European states and they applied the same techniques to topple Trump in 2020. The Time magazine article by Molly Ball outlines their public strategies in glowing detail and shows how arrogant they have become. There is no conspiracy theory about it, they did it in plain sight. Only people like Steve Bannon, Raheem Kassam, and Darren Beatie care enough about saving the Republic to actually organize politically and challenge the oligarchs behind this revolution.

Fire them all.
Let the DOJ maintain a database on criminals that is accessible to various police departments. But no enforcement arm. No ATF, no FBI, CIA, NSA.
Fire them all.
Various military branches may maintain counter espionage/investigation teams, but the rest is done. And those may not apprehend, only advise and support local law enforcement.

Who knew wheat evil lurked in the hearts of men back then? The American people demanded "security" and "safety" and they got it in spades from whose who could offer such. Knee-jerkers couldn't get enough of super-secret stuff that would supposedly kick those Muslim terrorists in the arse. MOAB was the word of the day everyday. Oh, and we needed this secret court to make sure everything was legal-like when we started chasing shadows.
About 20 years later we have the predicable results. The intel/psyops/military genie is long out of the bottle...and we react more strongly to overdue withdrawal from Afghanistan than to the destruction of American democracy.
Back the Blue (FBI, Homeland Security and US Capitol Police)!

Re #3, yes, I missed the Preview. Thanks for posting that link. Important to read it first as SD lays the background for the series of four articles to come (of which this is the first) and also calls attention to what to look for.

A couple of things:
1. The FBI does not do domestic investigations for security clearances, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) does, though his point is well taken. OPM and its contractors can "vet" those supporting the left's agenda while kicking suspected conservative folks into the realm of lost souls.
2. The reduction of military budgets in favor of intel budgets is key. Post-911, military manpower was dangerously low with only a few major units commanders willing to tell the truth about the problem. People like Shinseki played coy about it right up until OIF was launched. In the Army's case, no politician or military leader wanted to explain how the post-911 personnel budget increased by 41 percent, yet end strength increased by only 2 percent. Answer: it was much worse than anyone could imagine.
3. Because of #2, the end result is that for 20 years, the US has substituted the modern miracle of intel in place of military combat power. We were never going to win with that formula. Of course, intel was just fine with it.
