Top cops say they fear that the US could be hit by a horrific summer of mass shootings—with four states alone witnessing gun atrocities within the last 24 hours. Savannah Police Chief Roy Minter Jr and Chuck Wexler, from the Police Executive Research Forum, said a recent explosion in the number of shootings appears to be a long term trend, rather than a blip. Minter spoke after a man was killed and seven were injured in a mass drive-by shooting in the Georgia city on Friday night.(Snip)He said: 'It's very disturbing what we're seeing across the country and the level of gun violence

I was surprised to see Savannah on the list because I always thought it was an old fashioned genteel city with a great historical district. I was more surprised when I saw that it is 55% black. Now I'm no longer surprised at this kind of violence there. However, the historic district is still on my bucket list. Fortunately my Alabama ccp is valid in Georgia.

Lots of shootings throughout the once great USA.
The media has been waiting for decades to find a mass shooter with a carrying permit and/or NRA membership. Still, they have remained disappointed about that.

Liberal DAs releasing violent repeat offenders along with fools wanting to empty prisons while ''defunding'' the police is what is responsible for the spike in violent crime.

"Gun violence"? I own a great number of guns. None of my guns has ever done any violence, other than to some game animals and targets, over the years. I must have gotten the 'non-violent' models, but they look and work exactly the same as the ones that these violent thugs use.
Gee, I wonder what the difference could be?
Perhaps the violent PEOPLE who are using these neutral guns?

The Police Executive Research Forum has been notoriously anti-gun for fifty years. Their members are politicians masquerading as cops. All those “chiefs” believe that only police should have guns.

Here, once again, is my theory on the causes of increases in gun violence.
First, the BLM-ANTI violence has frightened police leadership, and police officers are avoiding trouble. Thus, young thugs believe they are more likely to get away with violence.
Second, and more important, is that the flood of illegals coming across our southern border, along with more fentanyl coming from China to Mexico, provides a ready source of 'mules.' And as the supply of fentanyl goes up, prices go down, and retail space becomes more important to gangs.
Thus, the shootouts.
Simple economics.

A year out of college in 1978, I bought for home defense and target shooting a Ruger .357 Magnum. At a friend's spread out in the country that revolver got some regular use. I learned that .38 Special is much more comfortable to shoot than full house magnum--about three times more comfortable because .38 Special has about one-third the power of the .357 (and both types of bullets are 0.357 of an inch.in diameter--9mm is 0.355).
If a Florida State Trooper hadn't moved close to me and become my friend several years ago, my interest in firearms probably wouldn't have progressed past that six-shooter, which I had rarely fired since moving out of Tennessee. But after seeing what he carried, whether on duty, hunting, or competitively shooting, I became interested. My friend was (is) an expert on all aspects of firearms who was willing to share what he knew, I looked forward to seeing him weekly in his carport. If you want to learn about anything useful, seek out an expert and follow until you're secure enough to forge your own path. Study and practice.
The most important lesson he taught me was this: You are personally responsible for your own self defense. If an evil person attacks you, the police will not be present. Your survival might depend on employing a firearm. If you must defend yourself, are you prepared to do it, or will you throw yourself on your attacker's mercy? He encouraged me to get a CCW permit (if I didn't already have one), a good pistol for concealed carry, and go to the range. Combat shooting courses are at some ranges, and they're very useful for learning to detect a threat before it kills you, and for detecting a non-threat before you mistakenly kill it. Good training in quick thinking. Mainly, he told me to learn the basics then let my specific interests develop from there. I may join him on the USPSA circuit. Thanks, Bobby. Stay safe.

Headline correction:
"America will be hit with a summer of gun violence"
should read:
"America will be hit with a summer of THUG violence"

It always seems like gun violence goes on an uptick whenever the democraps are getting negative press, or is it just me? Sometimes I think they keep a 'stable' of unstable people and just trot one out whenever they need to change the media line. Or, wait, that can't be true...they would never do anything like that...

Excellent comments from #9. I say it slightly differently, but it's the same exact point.

Chicago has been achieving that for years. The idea just caught on elsewhere when the bored teens saw how much fun the chitown gangs were having.

It is already starting in Denver - shootings most nights, road rage incidents, and stuff that seldom happened in the past.

Guns in the USA are like a lot of things these days, either you are a smooth brained slave who actually believes the propaganda of your TV or you have common sense about the subject. EVERY one of these mouthy politician/cop/expert/activists knows where the gun crimes are being committed and who is committing them. NONE of these people have done a thing to go to the areas of gun crime and work to reduce the mayhem. In fact these same people do things that increase the crimes. The more tragedy, the more power smooth brains and cowards give them. I detest the hypocrites who personally profit off innocent blood, but I am repulsed by the eager slaves among us who support their lying overlords.
Meanwhile if you are a citizen with a clean record, you need to learn about weapons and how to use them. For most of us that means a firearm and the skills required to use it effectively and safely. That's correct. Any firearm can be used safely. Like cars, knives and ladders, they require some basic knowledge and attention. Always question anything your TV tells you. On the subject of guns, there is nothing that comes to mind after decades of TV viewing that showed true info on guns. Always a violent or dangerous thing to be abused or feared.

Agreed, #6. It's not the guns, it's who uses them for violence.

"Top cops" = politicians. Always.
Never trust them. At least 2/3 of chiefs of police are more full of political beans than they are common sense.

Sorry. There are no police. Citizens are on their own. Police cannot work. Police cannot arrest. Courts cannot detain. There are no criminals except for police.
So lots of innocent people will die. So what? Their lives do not matter.
All that matters is the Marxist revolution.

The level of gun violence ---BY BLACKS---is pretty awful, and no law they can pass that stops honest Americans from purchasing guns will stop it.

Demonize the police, encourage violent minorities to lash out against a society said to oppress them with manufactured grievances, and refuse to arrest criminals. Then comes the call to confiscate guns. No worries about the people killed and the cities destroyed; people are merely a means to an end under Marxism.
