A lawsuit opposing the Houston Methodist Hospital network’s mandate that employees must get the COVID-19 vaccine has been shot down at the federal level. A U.S. District judge on Saturday tossed the lawsuit from employees of the Texas hospital system who argue they shouldn’t be required to get vaccinated. The dismissal comes after 178 staffers who declined to get the vaccine were suspended by Houston Methodist, which had instituted a June 7 deadline for employees to receive the shots. A claim made by the lawsuit’s lead plaintiff, Jennifer Bridges, describing the vaccines as “experimental and dangerous” was refuted by the judge.

Well, at least this hospital staff is being consistent. Post-911 the big bio threat was small pox. While all service members were required to take the FDA approved vaccine, contract medical personnel and civilian medical staffs opposed taking the vaccine. I always wondered what would be wrong with it considering generations of GIs had taken it. The controversy kind of drifted off into the ether. In this case, however, they are right to oppose it.

Judge Lynn Hughes issued a very biased opinion with her snark included. There was not one word of discussion about the rights of the plaintiffs that brought the suit. Those were never considered by Judge Hughes. I don't think much of decisions that come with a lecture either.

He is the most overturned Judge in the 5th Circuit Court. Let's see where this goes from here.

My body my choice. The judge is suppressing the truth about mandating experimental drugs. Don’t succumb to fear. God created us with a robust perfect immune system. Nobody wants nano magnets that respond to radio frequencies in their body or DNA manipulating technology. Don’t be messing with Sasquatch. Eternal Life Matters.

The vaccines are CLEARLY experimental - they have not been approved for anything but emergency use. They are also clearly dangerous as evidenced by the tens of thousands of negative side effects being documented.
This judge is a whopping moron who doesn't even know what the current status of the approvals by FDA. That status is EMERGENCY USE AUTHORIZATION.

I forgot to add that this judge is one of the most reversed judges in America. He has been citied repeatedly for misconduct on his time on the bench.

I believe the lawyers for the hospital probably used the flu vaccine as an example of hospital employee requirements. Every hospital in the country requires employees to get the flu vaccine. To the hospital, this is no different.

Judge Hughes wrote the plaintiffs' claim that currently available COVID-19 vaccines are "experimental and dangerous" an argument that is false and irrelevant, and that "Texas law only protects employees from being terminated for refusing to commit an act carrying criminal penalties to the worker" adding that the "press-release style of the complaint" does not specify which illegal acts the plaintiffs were alleged to have been asked to perform.

Yep #4/good deal it is indeed your body. However the other statements about nano magnets, etc. are to be blunt...ridiculous . There are enough nutball theories and conspiracy theories floating around out there without repeating them here. You are entitled to your view as questionable as it may be.

How about the rights of the patients in that hospital. Like rights not to be infected by staff.

OK, fine. If it was me, I'd find a new job. As I understand it, nurses and docs can easily get a new job elsewhere.

# 7 - no not all hospitals mandated flu shots every year. I never had to take one. And this virus isn't your run of the mill flu and the vaccine is untested and blatantly causing reactions and deaths. There is a difference.

the judiciary is so problematic that anyone with half an atom of brainpower can see that they are the key to the destruction of our country and this is one of the most blatant examples. there is too much news, if you can call it that, to substantiate anyone's reason not to be vaccinated and anyone's reason to be vaccinated. for me, all the balls are in the air and I have not and will not make my decision until I fully trust what I hear.

The judge correctly points out “Bridges can freely choose to accept or refuse a COVID-19 vaccine; however, if she refuses, she will simply need to work somewhere else.” Holding a job is a mutual agreement between employee and employer, referred to as Employment at Will. You can quit, and they can fire you on the spot with no cause whatever. The judge recognizes this "right" very clearly, "Every employment includes limits on the worker’s behavior in exchange for remuneration. That is all part of the bargain.”
That's the law, and that's been the law for a long time. Employees do not own their jobs, nor write their own checks.
