BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn —When William Adams moved to this area a few years ago, he joined thousands of Minneapolis residents in transforming Brooklyn Center from the mostly White suburb it once was into one where people of color account for more than half the population. But as he tried to settle into the community, Adams, who is Black, was always reminded of how Brooklyn Center police used to harass him in the early 1970s when he came to visit his girlfriend, who was White. “They would see something hanging in the window, or a light out on my car and

So, rather than integration we find self-segregation. This is the usual pattern for "the Community". And Mr. Adams wants out...“All the problems keep coming more and more up this way. That is why we are trying to get out.”
And those problems? One can guess what is happening in terms of general behavior, crime, and community presentation, such as property maintenance. OP notes "the area used to have a nice mall called Brookdale. By the early 2000s most of the stores fled due to high crime rates." That's not the cops' fault. It is a common theme.

“Unrest”? That’s what they are calling it now? A euphemism a minute, that’s our media. When it involves mayhem and arson, it’s rioting, baby!
As for this headline, isn’t a main motive behind terrorism to create fear (terror) and warn others to behave, comply, or else?

There is something about working for what you pay for that instills pride and protective instincts about those 'things'. Our homes, furnishings, vehicles...all make up part of our intimate 'family' of stuffs along with our person family. If we can't protect it - we move away from the problems. And problems arise when a tipping point of too many who do NOT work and earn their stuffs. They have no respect for what they or you have. And Leftist policy and this administration wants to spread them everywhere where you and I live - but never take on those mandates for themselves. It will never work in a 'free' country. There's yer warning.

The inescapable truth is that blacks have a serious, serious problem with violent crime. They just don't obey laws, and they snap into violence at the slightest provocation, real or imagined.
The more blacks you have in a city, the more violent crime you will have, and vice versa. They really have made themselves into a violent and criminal subculture, nobody did that 'to them'. Certainly not all black people, but way disproportionately so. I believe I read that fully 50% of black men between 20 and 50 had a felony record. Please correct me if that is wrong, but I believe it was reported as a fact when the media was trying to make some point other than how many crimes they are doing and have done.

The Washington Post is helping to create a narrative. Sure, the unrest is coming to a suburb near you. That's the plan. The ultimate goal is gun confiscation. Biden would just savor being able to say that violence has gone to Red States and Red Counties. He wants to be able to say that the violence isn't confined to large urban areas.

Doesn't matter the verdict...there will be rioting, burning, and looting...maybe even a couple murders...time for the 'powers that be' to get some cojones and put and end to all of this crap....but then their democrats and don't want to hurt their voting block....

Gee, I can't understand why there are these problems with diversity? Could it be cultural differences...values...past history of behavior of the group? I can't figure it out!

Cry us a river. Experts should know that once the camel's nose gets under the tent, the camel shiff soon follows. That's why Joe's thoroughly stupid idea of slapping up low income housing in white neighborhoods will be the trigger that starts the civil war. Pay them their dang reparations with the caveat that they just go away - far away.

"Elliott, 37, who was elected in 2018, is Brooklyn Center’s first Black and first Liberian American mayor. Three of five City Council members are also people of color. And their local state representative is a 27-year-old Hmong American, Samantha Vang."
That wonderful thing called DIVERSITY. All of you white residents who are still there, move out! You are the problem.

It certainly is a warning to small communities. When the neighborhood becomes more than 40% black , get out while you can.

The forces comprising the Left- whoever or whatever they may be- want dissolution of society: a GREAT crisis which they will not let go to waste.
"Defund the police" is a call for the dissolution of society, since no society can exist without the police function. The people who know how this society was put together have been duped- The Gullibles- and the rest of us outnumbered and/or divided.

I read yesterday that, believe it or not, having anything hanging from one’s rear view mirror is a citable offense.
That said, that had absolutely ZERO to do with Daunte’s being pulled over. Expired plates. Active new arrest warrant. And then he decided to make yet another run for it...

From time to time I visit a daughter who lives in a small town in rural Calfornia. The town is incorporated with a city manager and council. In the last election it voted two to one for Donald Trump. There are about 800 black people living there and about the same number of hispanics. The city is Republican run. It has a balanced budget, tiny homeless population, clean air, water and streets. In the main the Black people are educated professonals, most (as I was told by one of them) not "jive." Not sure what that means! My daughter says it is a pleasure to have Black friends and acquaintences in the town. No signs of unrest for me until I return home to the Bay Area. I retire...I'm heading to my daughter's little town.

About the “stuff hanging from the mirror”, that was noticed incidentally after officers had pulled him over for expired plates. It is apparent that anything that causes LE to pull a motorist over is a sore spot with blacks.
We have concerns that police appear to have used dangling air fresheners as an excuse for making a pretextual stop, something police do too often to target Black people,” the ACLU of Minnesota said Sunday. It called for an independent investigation into the shooting.
Wright’s death has sparked protests and further inflamed tensions in a city already on edge over the police killing of another Black man. Testimony continued Monday in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is charged in the May 2020 death of George Floyd.
Police traffic stops because of dangling air fresheners have already led to several court challenges.
In September 2018, police pulled over two Black men in Chicago for having an air freshener hanging from a rearview mirror. During the stop officers found weapons in the vehicle, and the men were each charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
The men did not allege they were racially profiled. But they moved to suppress the evidence, arguing that the air freshener was not sufficient probable cause for the officers to pull them over.
Last year a federal appeals court ruled that the stop was legitimate, saying police had “reasonable suspicion” to believe that the tree-shaped air freshener obstructed the driver’s view. Both men were sentenced to prison.

They use their vehicles to conceal/transport all kinds of items connected with criminal behavior. It has to terrify them when some relatively minor thing like a dangling air freshener can cause them to be outed and possible imprisoned. Wouldn’t you think they’d smarten up about the vehicle code(s) and make sure that their vehicles were in full compliance? Small time thugs with IQs in single digits?

It does not take a huge amount of intelligence to see this pattern or how it has been repeated over and over. A nice safe quiet small city/suburban goes from being white to being a dangerous place to live. The people who move in never build the community. They move because it is safe and quiet and has lots of things to offer to make a good quality of life. More people from different cultures and races move in and then the crime starts to increase. The people who made the community start to leave. They are replaced by more non-whites. The results is much of the wealth leaves. Businesses start to close because they are not supported and the increase in crime. The cycle continues until no one really wants to live there. Those that can move.
While some would like to make this a problem of the police, it is not. It is a problem of culture and values. This is why 14% of the population are responsible for more than 50% of the violent crimes.

OP. that's always the way in malls in black majority areas. Two of them in KC area did that. Indian Creek Mall and the far larger Bannister Mall. All gone now. I would occasionally go to Bannister Mall, and all the common areas were filled with black teens lounging around giving harsh looks any white folks who dared enter their domain. And robberies in the parking lot, and shootings became so common that business went to near zero. Same at the other mall, one on far SE corner of metro area, one on far NW corner of metro.

It is only a matter of time before my former home town area, the People's Republic of Denver experiences this violence. There are plenty of really bad people there in the inner city.
