Washington state lawmakers passed a bill on Thursday setting a target to stop sales of gasoline-fueled vehicles there beginning in 2030, five years sooner than California. The target is not a firm mandate and is contingent on the state adopting a tax on vehicle miles traveled, a measure to help pay for new transportation infrastructure, according to the text of the bill. The move by the Pacific Northwest state comes as efforts to boost adoption of electric vehicles are accelerating over concerns about fossil fuels' contribution to climate change. Transport is the top source of greenhouse gas emissions in the

A state I remember as being very big on the powerful pickup trucks and SUVs. They forget how much of the state is rural and agricultural. Good luck with this… /s

PS. I also remember that Washington was a cold, gloomy, often rainy state for a fair amount of the year, with the wealthy bailing for warmer climes in California and Arizona. And they’re worried about “climate change”? Liberals are dumb as posts…..

Oh, I guess they make electric powered tractors, combines, tillers, and other farm equipment, now?
Can't wait to see electric powered logging trucks

This is quite silly. If they are serious about it they should just "phase out" gasoline. Every year between now and 2030 shut down half of your existing gas stations and set up charging stations.

Actually, Californians migrated to Wa. State in the 60s and 70s largely to the west of the Cascades which is compact, dark, wet and moldy. East of the mountains, the state generally gets four distinct seasons and there is light, expansive living. This is where the pickups and SUVs predominate. As usual the lefty state government is only concerned with the populous west where they get the majority of its votes. Eastern Washington and Oregon really do need to secede and I think they would have more of a chance of making it happen. Texas seceding is a pipe dream given all the federal activities and jobs embedded in the state. Abbott et al wouldn't have the stomach for it.

I feel so sorry for the people who have cars and jobs and have to drive to work every day. They are the ones who don't make enough to buy a new electric car yet help keep this nation running. Shame on the politicians who think everything is all about politics and themselves. They are slowly destroying America a lot faster than Climate Warming ever will!!!!

There simply isn't enough electricity for this. Nuclear plants are needed.

I am taking all of my available cash and investing in horse farms and forming a start up company that will manufacture horse drawn buggies and wagons and sell them to the communist death democrats in Washington State because this will become the primary method of transportation for these brainless pond scum..

They showed the prototype of a future electric car on TV a week or so ago, they gave the expected MSRP as being about $80,000.00. How do they expect the average American to afford that. Besides if there is a big power failure for a few days, it would mean that after a bit, no electric cars would be able to move. That would be just peachy in an emergency!

#11, according to a liberal I once worked with the electricity comes from the outlet. No kidding.

Wishful thinking that this would work. Where will the energy come from that powers the charge stations. Not wind-powered turbines. These turbines are only functional as peak-load shaving devices. But, dims, how will the electrical base load by supplied? Nuclear power and fossil fuels, right? Nope.

#13, you might have inquired as to how it gets INTO the outlet. You'd probably just get a blank stare.

What about those who cannot afford one of the wondrous new electric vehicles? Are they expected to walk?

To me the key phrase is ...
"the state adopting a tax on vehicle miles traveled".
I wager they will want to forcibly install GPS tracking on every vehicle.
Big Brother wants to know where you are, where you are going, what is your routine, when you deviate from your routine.,
The only question is..... will the GPS trackers also include the ability to disable your car at the whim of some bureaucrat?
