A Frenchman serving time in a prison in Turkey is seeking to be repatriated after being the target of a number of violent homophobic attacks by fellow inmates. Fabien Azoulay, a 43-year-old French national of Jewish descent, was sentenced to nearly 17 years in prison for buying a recently-banned narcotic online during a short trip to Istanbul in 2017. Azoulay wasn’t aware that the product, GBL (Gamma-Butyrolactone), had been classified as an illegal narcotic, as the substance was still available in the country, for over-the-counter purchases, six months before the incident. “The product had been banned in Turkey just a

It's a sign of the times that the NY Daily News has a reporter assigned specifically to homo-related news.

How exactly did anyone know he was a sodomite if he didn't brag about it?
Seriously, I don't know why homosexuals feel the need to let everyone know what their perverse bedroom habits are. If you ask a normal man about himself, he will talk about his family and his job and his hobbies and his faith -- but the word "heterosexual" will never come up in the conversation. But a sodomite always has to tell you that he is "gay" or "homosexual" as the first thing they list about themselves. Why is their perverse sexual desires the first thing they feel the need to list about themselves?
Personally, even though I am a normal Christian woman, if I were stuck in a prison in a muslim country, I would be as quiet as I possibly could just to survive. Apparently he wasn't smart enough to do that!!!

And why must we ascribe fear to someone who feels compelled to commit violence against a homosexual? It would seem to be hatred, but why pick a fight with someone you feared?

Phobia: (noun) an anxiety disorder that causes an individual to experience extreme, irrational fear
I don't think the Turkish prisoners were the least bit afraid of him. And, them as having a mental disorder is ridiculous because they kicked this guys butt is ridiculous.
Words have meanings, and if you let them control your words then they will subtly control your thought. Find the lie, call it out.

Remember those PSA's they used to run in the 70s?
"When you break the law over there, you're in for the time of your life."
Turkish prisons are not LGBTQ++ friendly, but there sure is a lot of that activity in them.

He went to a Muslim country to buy drugs. What did he expect? And Muslims claim to be heterosexual, yet they’re always sodomizing little boys....

this reporter is a journalist? could only find via wikipedia that Gamma-Butyrolactone is something like a barbituate when
used by humans. the entry might be dated as it had neither france nor turkey declaring it illegal. in many countires it apparently
not illegal to posess per se but illegal to posess with intent to use.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma-Butyrolactone
anyhow, does not look like he has his head screwed on right to purchase it in turkey

That GBL, would that be something close to amyl nitrate, called "poppers", which are popular amongst the highly promiscuous gay scene?

From Wikipedia, here's a partial list of legality of GBL in some countries:
Australia: GBL is not classified as a drug but as a health-endangering substance. Although legislation to enter into force on 1 April 2011 will make it possible to handle narcotics for industrial purposes will enable GBL and 1,4-Butanediol to be classified as controlled substances.[33]
Canada: GBL is a Controlled Substance under Schedule VI of the "Controlled Drugs and Substances Act" in Canada. Schedule VI of the "Controlled Drugs and Substances Act" requires vendors to collect information regarding purchases of GBL. The Act also prohibits the import and export of GBL into or out of Canada classifying it as either an indictable offense punishable with up to 10 years in prison or an offense punishable on summary conviction liable to imprisonment for up to eighteen months.[34] It is not illegal for an individual to possess GBL in Canada.[citation needed]
Germany: GBL is not listed in the narcotics law, but its distribution is controlled. Possession is not illegal, but may be punished according to the Medicines Act, when intended to be sold for human consumption or synthesis of GHB. In recent years, an increase of GBL consumption has been observed due to the prohibition of GHB.
Hong Kong SAR: GBL is a dangerous drug controlled under Schedule 1 of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, Cap.134 (with exemption clause at Paragraph 16D). Any person who is found to have in his possession of it not in accordance with this Ordinance can be liable, on conviction upon indictment, a fine of HK$1,000,000 and to imprisonment for 7 years.
Israel: GBL was classified as a proscribed substance from 2007.[35]
Netherlands: GBL is unlike GHB not listed in the narcotics law,[36] but its distribution is controlled. Possession is not illegal but may be punished according to the Medicines Act, when intended to be sold for human consumption or synthesis of GHB.[37]
Poland: GBL is classified as a drug. A license is mandatory for the manufacture, processing, reworking, importing, distribution of GBL.[38]
Russia: GBL has been classified as a psychotropic substance since 22 February 2012. Its trafficking is limited, and non-licensed selling, buying or any other use is punishable by imprisonment up to 20 years.
Sweden: GBL is not classified as a drug but as a health-endangering substance. Although recently passed legislation to enter into force on 1 April 2011 will make it possible to handle narcotics for industrial purposes will enable GBL and 1,4-Butanediol to be classified as controlled substances.[39]
United Kingdom: Because of their legitimate uses, regulation 4B of the 2001 regulations makes it lawful to import, export, produce, supply, offer to supply or possess GBL and 1,4-BD. Except where a person does so knowing or believing that they will be used for the purpose of human ingestion.[7][40]
United States: GBL is regulated as a List I controlled chemical. As a GHB analog, it is also treated as a controlled substance under Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act if intended for human consumption.[41] Sales and distribution of this product for industrial use is tightly regulated and requires quantity tracing, lock and key storage and 24 hour surveillance. In 2012, manufactures moved away from outside sale of this chemical for industrial use and removed all distributors of this product due to tight regulations. Industrial purchasing of this product is only possible direct through manufacturers now of Ashland Chemical and Shrieve Chemical Company.
