Malcolm Harsch, the Black man found hanging from a tree near a library in Victorville, died from an apparent suicide, according to family.
In a statement released Friday, the family said Harsch took his own life.
Najee Ali, a community activist and spokesman for Harsch's family, said in the statement that police showed the family "video evidence."
As the investigation into the May 31 death of Harsch continued, detectives obtained surveillance video from a vacant building near where his body was discovered. The video confirmed the absence of foul play, authorities said.

Exposure to air pollution and high temperatures driven by climate change have been linked to negative effects on pregnancies across the US, according to a landmark new study. Pregnant women exposed to hazardous environmental conditions are more likely to have babies who are premature, underweight or stillborn, with black mothers and their infants most at risk. The investigation, published on Thursday, is the first to provide "big picture evidence" of the links between newborns and climate change in the US population, analysing data on 32.8 million births between 2007 and 2019.(Snip) The report is also further evidence that black and minority communities disproportionately

On questions of immigration, the Supreme Court seems to be representing the interests of foreign nationals who haven't bothered to come to the U.S. legally.
They threw out the perfectly legitimate request to reinstate the 2020 Census question on U.S. citizenship, something that has been on that form since the dawn of the Census and only recently was dropped, saying the Trump administration hadn't presented a good enough reason to do it.
Now they've done the same thing on the question of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), the Obama administration executive order that permits a large bloc of illegal aliens to work

By the time the Twins reached out this week to several of their prominent former players, the decision already had been made. The statue of former owner Calvin Griffith, the man who brought Major League Baseball to Minnesota in 1961, was being removed. In the early hours of Friday morning, just that occurred. The statue of the first team owner, standing in front of Target Field since the ballpark opened in 2010, was hauled away by a construction crew. A sheet of plywood covered the location, with a handmade “BLM” (Black Lives Matter) sign attached, was all that remained by mid-morning.

If you've been paying attention recently, and you probably have, you've likely sensed that something profound is happening to this country right now, something that could transform what America is. You can feel it happening. Our leaders deny it. Officials on both sides reassure us they're not planning wholesale changes to the country. They're just trying to fix specific problems. A man was brutalized by police officers in Minneapolis. Another man was shot to death in the parking lot of Wendy's. Those things were bad, they are telling us, and abuses like that are what they are fighting against.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday again defended his administration’s now-scrapped nursing home policy that critics say contributed to thousands of coronavirus deaths, slamming the controversy as “a shiny object” and “pure politics.”Cuomo’s comments came during an interview on New York’s WAMC-AM on Thursday. He was asked about the criticism and whether he acknowledged the policy was “on the wrong track.”“No,” the Democratic governor responded. “The nursing home is an unfortunate situation on two levels. Number 1, people in nursing homes died. The nursing home [controversy] is pure politics, the Republicans in Congress, they think there’s a vulnerability.”

Former Secretary of State John Kerry raised the possibility that a victory by President Trump could provoke a revolution in the United States, claiming that Republicans have a history of denying voting rights to Democratic voters.
“If people don't have adequate access to the ballot, I mean that's the stuff on which revolutions are built,” Kerry said during a virtual appearance at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit. “If you begin to deny people the capacity of your democracy to work, even the Founding Fathers wrote in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, we have an inherent right to challenge that. The Fox News poll released on Thursday revealed that 61% of self-identified Democrats are planning to vote this November because they “fear the other candidate might win." Just 33% said enthusiasm for Biden was their primary motivation for supporting the former vice president and presumptive Democratic nominee. Democratic women are more concerned with Trump than Democratic men, with 67% citing fear of Trump as their main motivator.

Immigrant-rights activists took a victory lap Friday over Fairfax County’s new sanctuary policy limiting police cooperation with federal immigration agents, saying it could protect thousands of illegal immigrants from being deported. Police General Order 604 bans officers from complying with warrants issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying they are civil detainers, not court-approved warrants. It also bans ICE deportation officers from access to county police buildings, and it encourages officers to release people on summonses rather than arrest and book them for minor infractions, which could help keep them off ICE’s radar.

America has reached an epistemological breaking point. For the first two months following the coronavirus outbreak, public-health experts insisted that we “follow the science” and implement their recommendations, even if it meant millions of lost jobs and significant restrictions on constitutionally protected activities, such as church attendance and freedom of assembly. Blue-state governors quickly positioned themselves as executors of this neutral scientific knowledge, condemning anti-lockdown protesters as “anti-scientific;” meantime, social media companies banned anti-lockdown groups and censored content from lockdown skeptics.
But when protests erupted in the U.S. after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, many public-health experts reversed course—and subordinated “science” to their activist politics.

n the clangorous pre-electoral atmosphere created by the COVID-19 crisis, its economic consequences, and the disorders that have followed the apparent murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, there have been some important foreign policy developments, though they are largely ignored by the media. The Trump Administration’s exasperation with the conduct of Germany and China, as well as the perennial problems of Iran and North Korea, have not conveniently abated while America’s domestic preoccupations have unfolded.
Germany potentially is and should behave as if it were the third most powerful country in the world after the United States and China.

The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, ruling that the Trump Administration failed to comply with federal regulation procedures.

“The majority today concludes that [the Department of Homeland Security] was required to do far more,” Thomas wrote. (Snip) the majority was holding the decision of the Trump Administration to a higher standard than President Barack Obama’s “executive action” that established DACA illegally

Protesters on Thursday went to the Rochester home of GOP Assembly Speaker Robin Vos to lay a wreath of flowers in response to his recent comment appearing to blame immigrant “culture” for a COVID-19 outbreak in Racine County.
“We’re here to send a message to Robin Vos, who hasn’t had to risk his life or the life of a loved one to work to support them,” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, executive director of immigrant advocacy group Voces de La Frontera.
Neumann-Ortiz called on Vos to resign, apologize and "support real change.”

Harris sees that, which is why she's jumping at the chance.

It’s as plain as the spectacles on Paul Howard’s face: The Fulton County district attorney is bastardizing his office to hang on to his job. Wednesday’s news conference where Howard announced charges against two Atlanta cops was a travesty. It was a wounded candidate using the death of a man killed by police to weave together a series of bald-faced prevarications and obfuscations to get past a challenger who has him on the ropes.

As far as exit interviews are concerned, this one was unofficial and especially ugly.
In his forthcoming book, “The Room Where It Happened,” John Bolton condemns President Trump as a bumbling executive and mocks Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin as a political opportunist and dismisses Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as generally averse to conflict.
But he doesn’t stop there, as one rising GOP star is finding out.
The highly unflattering 494-page tome, cataloguing the former national security adviser’s time in the Trump White House, seems destined for bestseller lists — that is, if it can get published. Citing national security concerns late Wednesday,

"What," Marx asked, "is the Commune, that sphinx so tantalizing to the bourgeois mind?"
In 1871 the Commune was the revolutionary government of Paris, a revolt against the newborn Third Republic of Adolphe Thiers. The communards, drawn from the ranks of city-dwelling laborers, overthrew the republican army and replaced it with an armed guard. The police were disbanded—or "defunded"—and reconstituted as an agency of the Commune. "It aimed to expropriate the expropriators." Churches were closed, judges were disestablished, and offices redistributed among the masses of the people.
"In a rough sketch of national organization which the Commune had no time to develop," Marx wrote in "The Civil War in France,"

The single biggest threat against President Donald Trump's reelection in November isn't unhinged liberals out for blood, a hostile media or even a politicized U.S. Supreme Court; it's Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top infectious disease adviser on the White House Coronavirus Task Force. If he's not reined in, then he may succeed in making Trump a one-term president.
Here's why. One of the most important things an incumbent needs to secure reelection is a strong economy, but due to the radical lockdown and months-long national quarantine Fauci championed in March to mitigate the pandemic, the U.S. economy was dealt a devastating blow, resulting in 46 million Americans losing their jobs.

The man, identified by his boss to CBSLA as 18-year-old Andres Guardado, was shot at about 6 p.m. after running from deputies in the town of Gardena. “The police came up, and they pulled their guns on him and he ran because he was scared, and they shot and killed him,” Andrew Heney, the shop’s owner, told the network. “He’s got a clean background and everything. A few years ago, something mildly embarrassing occurred at a Halloween party hosted by a Washington Post cartoonist: A white woman painted her face black and wore a name tag that read "Hello, My Name is Megyn Kelly," in reference to the TV host's controversial defense of white people wearing blackface. The intended butt of the joke would appear to be Kelly, not black people. Regardless, several guests approached the woman and explained to her that it was still not OK to wear blackface. The world is now shocked — shocked — to discover that President Trump’s private style is no different than his public style. He flatters foreign leaders (Xi Jinping is “the greatest Chinese leader ever”), the better to disarm them; he cares more about pleasing his constituents, for example, American farmers and industrial workers, than about the neo-conservative illusion about exporting democracy; he has a temper (certain annoying people “should be shot”); he has a diverse cabinet (“panda-huggers” like Mnuchin, free-traders like Larry Kudlow, and China hawks like Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Secretary of State Pompeo).
That’s the brunt of John Bolton’s tell-all White House memoir.

President Trump's reelection campaign wants former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani to lead an effort demanding extra presidential debates, believing Trump will gain from them by shining a spotlight on presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
Three events are on the calendar so far: on Sept. 29 at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, Oct. 15 at the University of Michigan, and Oct. 22 at Belmont University in Nashville.
Both October debates coincide with Thursday night football games, which Trump officials believe could limit viewership, so Giuliani has been tasked with scheduling debates for any weekday night but Thursday to prevent overlapping with the NFL games.

When you’re out having drinks with friends, are your personal conversations about politics private? Should they be?
According to at least one New England restaurant, the answer is no. And thus far, advocates for #BlackLivesMatter and other progressive political causes agree.
Since the beginning of the protests following George Floyd’s death at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, what critics call “cancel culture” has been operating overtime. The premise of “cancel culture” is that people should be denied access to media platforms or publicly shamed into apologizing for expressing opinions unpopular with progressive activists.

The Fulton County DA’s decision to charge officer Garrett Rolfe with murder struck me as highly dubious. It strikes Andy McCarthy as outrageous. Having read his article, I’m with Andy.
The murder charge is “felony murder.” This is an effort to get around the difficulty of proving that Rolfe intended to kill Rayshard Brooks. As McCarthy explains, “the homicide theory of felony murder is that, while the offender does not specifically intend to cause death, he does intentionally commit a felony from which death results.”
There still needs to be a felony, though. In this case, the alleged felony is aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Any remaining doubt that curbing President Trump’s campaign rallies was a key goal of the Democratic response to COVID-19 should be quelled by the Democrats’ antic opposition to Saturday’s Trump rally in Tulsa. They began with shrill fear-mongering, despite data showing that daily case rates have plateaued nationally and death rates are declining. They followed up with absurd claims that the rally’s original date was a racist “dog whistle.” As Rep. Val Demings (D-Fla.) put it, “Tulsa was the site of the worst racist violence in American history. The president’s speech there on Juneteenth [June 19] is a message to every Black American: more of the same.”

As with most states, Illinois has seen a massive increase in unemployment claims since the lockdowns began and business were forced to close and send their workers home. This was particularly true in the densely populated city of Chicago. The system was quickly overwhelmed, with newly unemployed workers complaining that they couldn’t get through either the online system or by phone to submit a claim. Because of the massive backlog, the government essentially abandoned its normal verification process and began approving claims as soon as they were submitted in an effort to clear the backlog.

The largest single allocation mentioned by the president Thursday was $135 million proposed for Louisiana – to build 8.3 miles of elevated highway between the Leeville Bridge and Golden Meadow, south of New Orleans, in order to avoid flooding.

The nationally recognized liberal arts institution Hillsdale College has a history of defying political pressure in order to uphold what is good and true. Its recent refusal to give in to the demands of those who think a public statement is necessary to fight social injustice is just the most recent example.
Some of the college’s alumni publicly pushed their alma mater to comment on the recent controversies regarding the death of George Floyd and the ensuing protests and riots. When a petition began circulating calling on the college to release a statement, arguing that its “silence” supported violence, the college responded in an open letter.
“The College is pressed to speak.

Twitter censored President Trump again on Thursday night. The President tweeted out a hilarious video mocking fake news CNN and Twitter jumped in and labeled it “manipulated media.”The ‘doctored’ video was a spoof on a previous report by CNN of a black and white toddler hugging.“Terrified toddler runs from racist baby.” CNN’s chyron said in the parody video. “Racist baby probably a Trump voter,” the headline said on the next screen. The video then shows the original clip of the toddlers hugging, and says, “America is not the problem. Fake news is.”

WASHINGTON — Sen. Amy Klobuchar won’t be former Vice President Joe Biden’s running mate. The Minnesota senator took her name off the list of possible running mates Thursday, saying "this is a moment to put a woman of color" on the Democratic ticket."America must seize on the moment and I truly believe — as I actually told the VP last night when I called him — that I think this is a moment to put a woman of color on that ticket," she told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell in an exclusive interview Thursday night. "And there are so many incredible, qualified women.

Across the United States, a great unraveling is in progress. A rolling crime wave, under the guise of social activism, has left city after American city shattered and smoldering. Armed anarchists seized territory inside Seattle with the blessing of local government. In Minneapolis and other cities, a campaign to enfeeble or eliminate the police has gained full legitimacy. In Kentucky, the governor has vowed to provide free health care only to one racial group. In the private sector, companies such as Uber Eats have pledged their commitment to a policy of race-conscious discrimination as well. And major media organs sanction all of the above as proper and good. Correction*

Even the progressive Democratic mayor of Portland thinks what the Democratic leadership up in Seattle is allowing to take place in the city is absurd.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, who just last week gave city employees 40 hours of bereavement leave to “mourn 400 years of African-American oppression, including the police killings of African-Americans across the country,” says he is “absolutely” against the “autonomous zone” that fellow Democratic Mayor Jenny Durkan has allowed to be established in multiple city blocks downtown. The “cop-free” area enabled by Seattle Democrats is both a “distraction” and dangerous, warns Wheeler.
As The Daily Wire has documented, over the last few weeks,

Airlines are always looking to do less … for more.
After the 9-11 attacks in the U.S. in 2001, airlines in America did away with most meal services (and many started charging you $50 for an extra bag — that’ll teach those terrorists!).
Now, with COVID-19 emerging as a new threat in the states, airlines have decided to stop in-flight sales of alcohol on many flights (‘cuz, you know, the coronavirus lives on those little bottles).
“Because COVID-19 can spread through surface contact, airlines have placed an emphasis on reducing ‘touchpoints’ between fliers and airline staff as much as possible. And beverage service is a major source of those touchpoints,”

Former Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe, involved in the shooting of Rayshard Brooks at a Wendy’s parking lot last week, was charged with felony murder on Wednesday. On Thursday, Rolfe’s legal team released a statement defending his “justified” actions.
“Rolfe is facing 11 counts, including felony murder and assault with a deadly weapon,” The Daily Wire reported Wednesday evening, adding that Devin Brosnan, Rolfe’s partner, has been placed on administrative leave and is facing three charges.
The incident on Friday started when a Wendy’s employee called the police after Brooks, under the influence of alcohol, passed out behind the wheel, blocking drive-through traffic.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson reported on Thursday evening that the stepmother of Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe, the officer who allegedly shot and killed Rayshard Brooks, has been fired from her job at mortgage company in the area.
“Until today, his stepmother, her name is Melissa Rolfe, was the HR director at a place called Equity Prime Mortgage in Atlanta, Georgia,” Carlson said. “But today, she was let go. She’s no longer in that role, apparently she was fired and her only crime was being officer Rolfe’s stepmother.”
“According to source familiar with the matter who spoke to this program, Rolfe was promised that her job was safe,
