The Vatican on Thursday urged Catholics to divest from fossil fuels, a call made in church documents warning against the dangers of climate change.
The 225-page encyclical, which is sent to all bishops within the church, also encouraged divesting from arms and monitoring sectors like mining to ensure they are not damaging the environment.
The document, "Journeying Towards Care For Our Common Home," argues people “could favor positive changes ... by excluding from their investments companies that do not satisfy certain parameters,” according to Reuters.

Please tell me what the Catholic church stands for.
Who is buying the Church?
Bring back Pope Benedict, a real Pope.

Let's hope the bishops are smarter than the Vatican, and thus will ignore this encyclical, which could damage the economy. Has Soros been advising the Pope?

This clown knows less about the machinations of economies and maintaining a vibrant civilization than he does about scripture, and that's saying something since he is a theological dolt.
My only question is why these leftist imbeciles (but I repeat myself) feel it necessary to foist their opinions on things they know absolutely nothing about?

Rumor has it that Obama and Kerry forced out Benedict and installed Francis. No idea if it's true, but he's more of a Commissar than a Pope.

So all the local parishes are going to disconnect from the grid? Good luck with that. I think I will finally promote myself from "non-practicing Catholic" to "former Catholic".

To put fossil fuel on the same level as abortion and war is is bizarre. Fossil fuel has raised the standard of living of everyone on planet earth far beyond what would have ever been possible otherwise. The market place, technology and practical replacement strategies will decide the future of fossil, not the pope. Another misadventure by the Holy Father. As a Catholic, I just shake my head and pray he doesn't do anymore damage to the church than he already has.

I began my departure from the RCC in the mid '60s with Vatican II destruction of traditions. I became non practicing in 1969 after I had joined the Navy and found the RCC was anything but catholic as I was obliged to "see the world". I keep the Faith but the RCC consists of fallible dishonest humans with un-Godly agendas - cleric and lay, globally and local.

Don't worry about it. The Vatican is the expert on faith and morals, not on science AND Catholics know that. Don't know what idiot wrote this document for him but it was a waste of effort unless the author actually wanted the Vatican to lose friends. No Catholic is going to think this is actionable unless they wanted to do these things anyway. Ignore it politely.

So I guess the pope will now travel the world on a solar powered aircraft. Or maybe he can borrow that sail boat from Saint Greta.
I’m still not going to mass even though our local church is open. Maybe I will after Frankie assumes room temperature.

Right, then! So all Catholics now need to stop brushing their teeth, using hairbrushes, bathing with soap and shampoo, wearing undergarments or anything with elastic, wearing sneakers or sandals, using bandaids, using electricity, riding bicycles, using medicine, watching television, mowing the grass, drinking beer, using refrigerators and freezers...
Why do leftists think that fossil fuels only fill up vehicle gas tanks??

Does he really be calling for people to divest ourselves of their sins? Repent and turn from Jesus Christ? For the people to live holy lives before the Lord God Almighty? To love Mercy act justly walk humbly before their God? I somehow don't remember anything about giving up fossil fuels in the scripture.

in related news, the Syracuse diocese in Upstate New York filed for bankruptcy today - the third upstate catholic diocese to do so.
all three dioceses had the same problem - homosexual pedophile perverts serving as priests.
those homosexual pedophile priests caused the church to be sued by the boys, now men, who were sexually defiled by the priests.
The Pope should get his head out of his anus and concentrate on real problems facing the Church.

Didn't the Pope announce in 2019 it was "his duty" to introduce a new "sin against ecology"? So, in the near future, if you still invest in "fossil fuels" despite this friendly advice to repent -- you will sin. What about the end user and his carbon footprint? Can you still use vaseline? Far reaching implications for everyone who is not the Pope.

#6 How soon we forget old news. When Francis went to the Vatican, Obola, who is not a Catholic, beat a path to his door. Maybe they weren't bathhouse buddies but commies on the same payroll. We forget the Pope gave him a rosary that he handed off to Nasty Nancy.
He must be buds with the high school dropout expert Greta too.

Pope Pancho the First does not understand US. We are the world premier producer of oil and gas and with that energy drive the world economy forward. The Sustainable development globalist agenda of the United Nations would devastate the world economy, and is based on the falsehood that there is American-made Global Warming. In the meantime the Pope kowtows to the Chinese Communist Party betraying Catholic bishops. The Pope should stick to his knitting.
