A House Oversight Committee hearing on voter suppression in minority communities erupted into a shouting match Wednesday when Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., tried to draw parallels between laws that restrict people's ability to vote -- like ID requirements and restrictions on ex-felons -- and gun control measures.

I don't, but the World Health Organization's declaration yesterday that the epidemic had peaked in China probably is accurate.

President Trump’s reelection campaign sued The New York Times for libel on Wednesday, saying the news organization falsely reported as fact a conspiracy with Russia.
The lawsuit, filed in the New York State Supreme Court, seeks to hold the news organization accountable for intentionally publishing false statements against Mr. Trump’s campaign.

The Trump administration can block federal grant money from New York City and several states that do not give US Immigration & Customs Enforcement access to jails, an appeals court ruled Wednesday. A Cincinnati city councilwoman could face up to 50 years in prison after being arrested Tuesday on federal corruption charges, authorities say, according to reports. Shortly after being taken into custody, Tamaya Dennard appeared in court in handcuffs and leg irons to face charges of honest services fraud, bribery and attempted extortion, FOX 19 of Cincinnati reported. In one instance, a source linked to a downtown development project, who was cooperating with the FBI, handed Dennard a cashier’s check for $10,000. “Oh, that’s perfect,” Dennard, 40, is heard saying on a recording, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “Thank you. I’m going right to the bank on this.”
In the wake of nearly 30 allegations of sexual harassment, 79-year-old opera star Placido Domingo, apologized for "the hurt" caused to his accusers on Tuesday. (Snip) The 79-year-old issued a statement Tuesday after the Associated Press reported that an investigation by the opera performers' union in the US confirmed that accounts from 27 people who accused Domingo revealed more than two decades of consistent sexual misconduct and abuse of power.
The American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) investigation "concluded that Mr. Domingo had, in fact, engaged in inappropriate activity, ranging from flirtation to sexual advances, in and outside of the workplace," a statement from the union said.
The Department of Justice is creating a new section of attorneys to handle cases aimed at stripping naturalized citizenship from people suspected of fraud, officials announced Wednesday.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed has declared a local emergency amid coronavirus fears.
“Although there are still zero confirmed cases in San Francisco residents, the global picture is changing rapidly, and we need to step up preparedness,” Breed said in a statement Tuesday. “We see the virus spreading in new parts of the world every day, and we are taking the necessary steps to protect San Franciscans from harm.”

An Oregon man has been busted for repeatedly duping Girl Scouts, buying cookies with counterfeit money, police said.
Camden Stevens Ducharme, 36, of Salem, was arrested Sunday on charges of theft and forgery after two separate Girl Scouts troops reported getting bogus bills while hawking their iconic baked goods earlier this month, the Statesman Journal reports.
During one incident, police said Ducharme passed a counterfeit $20 to purchase a box of cookies from a Girl Scout troop outside a Walmart in Salem and received legal currency in exchange, the newspaper reports.

A Florida man set his hospital bed on fire in a desperate attempt to get a nurse’s attention, police said.
John King, 75, admitted to police to using a silver and red Bic lighter to ignite a plastic bag in a shared room at a hospital in New Smyrna Beach where he felt staffers were ignoring his request to bring him his clothes, WKMG reports.
King’s hospital roommate told officials at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach that he spotted King set a small object on fire, but convinced him to extinguish the flame. King then reignited the blaze, prompting his roommate to use an emergency button to call for help, the station reports.

This past weekend, I and many of my colleagues received the shocking news that famed Obama administration DHS whistleblower Phil Haney had died. My first indication was a text from a friend late Friday night: "Sorry so late but I am hearing Phil Haney has been killed." I had received something earlier in the evening, but the person texting had thought it was a joke. It was no joke. A Florida woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly zipping her boyfriend in a suitcase and leaving him to die — all while taunting him on video. Sarah Boone, 42, told detectives she was playing a game of hide-and-seek with her partner, Jorge Torrez Jr., on Monday while drinking alcohol. She said they both agreed it would be funny if Torrez hopped in a blue suitcase in her home outside of Orlando, the news station WKMG reported.
A vet filmed the moment she managed to pull a beach towel from the stomach of a three-metre long jungle carpet python. Monty an 18-year-old snake was rushed to the Small Animal Specialist Hospital in Sydney's north-west last week after her family caught her devouring the towel. An endoscope was placed down the snake's mouth before vets used long forceps to pull the towel out - which was still completely intact. I will never forgive Bloomberg for destroying my home town. After the dreadful terror attack on 9/11, most of us wanted to give Mayor Rudy Giuliani a third term, even though term limits was the rule. Alas, Giuliani didn't have Bloomberg's billions because after Bloomberg's two nanny –filled terms, he managed to bribe the Democrat City Council to waive that rule. Phony baloney Bloomberg ran as a Republican in 2001 even though we knew he was a Massachusetts liberal Democrat but it was such a terrible time that we were shell-shocked by the horror in our city.
Gov. Gavin Newsom is coming under fire for an executive order he signed that redirects voter-approved gas taxes initially designed to expand transportation and infrastructure repair projects to “climate change”-related projects not authorized by the voters.
SB1, proposed by Senate President Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, was a gas tax repeal initiative, called the “Road Repair and Accountability Act.” Tax revenue from the bill would repair the state’s failing roads, highways and bridges.
SB 1 was passed to “invest $54 billion over the next decade to fix roads, freeways and bridges in communities across California and puts more dollars toward transit and safety,” according to RebuildingCA.gov.

“Here’s the deal. I would be on the phone with China and making it clear, ‘We are going to need to be in your country. You have to be open. You have to be clear. We have to know what’s going on. We have to be there with you.’ And insists on it. And insist, insist, insist. I could get that done,” Biden said.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged for attempting to blow up a vehicle in the Pentagon parking lot Monday morning, federal prosecutors announced.
The suspect, 19-year-old Matthew Dmitri Richardson of Arkansas, was allegedly observed striking a cigarette lighter against a piece of fabric placed into the SUV’s fuel tank. After Richardson was approached by a patroling Pentagon Police Officer, the suspect threatened to “blow this vehicle up” and “himself”. Dick Pound, the longest-serving member of the IOC, estimates there’s a three-month window to decide the fate of the Tokyo Olympics, which are being threatened by the fast-spreading virus from China.
Pound, in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, did not sound alarmist. But he did speak frankly about the risks facing the Olympics, which open July 24.
