Gov. Gavin Newsom is coming under fire for an executive order he signed that redirects voter-approved gas taxes initially designed to expand transportation and infrastructure repair projects to “climate change”-related projects not authorized by the voters.
SB1, proposed by Senate President Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, was a gas tax repeal initiative, called the “Road Repair and Accountability Act.” Tax revenue from the bill would repair the state’s failing roads, highways and bridges.
SB 1 was passed to “invest $54 billion over the next decade to fix roads, freeways and bridges in communities across California and puts more dollars toward transit and safety,” according to RebuildingCA.gov.

Imagine that, a lying, devious politician. This was Barak Obama's first trick with his Porkulus theft of three trillion dollars. I still wonder where they are storing those ugly green and orange road signs.

It would be news if a politician didn't play a shell game with our money.
We are so stupid in Illinois we decided gambling was only unethical if the state didn't manage and tax it and all the money was for the children, schools. And nobody noticed that the funds that previously went to schools went elsewhere. Don't tell anyone we don't want that getting out.
Buying a crackhead a hamburger for $5 is no better or different than giving him or her $5 worth of crack.

I love where I was born and still live. I have great neighbors and live in a nice town. But living in California as far as taxes go? It is like death by a million cuts. My property tax bill if full of extra charges, numerous bonds/bill/etc that keep passing with 4 more up this time. One of these won over 20 years ago. They never seem to have an end date. The gas tax is like a 1.00 total.

I sometimes wonder, will there EVER be a time that California taxpayers 'Have Had Enough?' How can they go on for decades seeing their leftwing Overlords destroy the State and THEM no matter how they vote? Mind boggling.

The idea of locals rising up with torches & pitchforks may seem quaint, but it's still surprisingly effective. There has to be a breaking point somewhere, and the Dems in Cali are rushing headlong trying to find it. I hope they find it...TODAY.

Of course, they always bait and switch. This has been happening for my whole life and was the reason many voted against the increase but there are too many stupid voters that have moved here from back east.

The left is all about power. They consider that they and only they have the "right" way to think. They thus have no qualms about tossing our money away on frivolous things like the climate change nonsense. Given ultimate power they will happily resort to executions and gulags to get their way.

They've been playing a shell game with state revenues for decades. They first used the lottery money as a new form of funding, not the extra it was viewed by the population, but mostly by the teachers. If lottery produced $1 billion, then they could simply move $1 billion that normally would have been going to education over to another program.
They have 2 Propositions on the ballot called Prop. 13, and each does something a little different, but both allow for an increase in taxes and bond issuance or less disposable income for people who have property.
And, with SALT capped at $10,000 it doesn't get written off like it used to.
And, it's all money simply to provide for the public employees, for raises and to fund their pensions - everyone works for them, they don't work for you.
But, they also vote to protect that status quo too, plus with the help of others they have a majority (no longer need super majority to pass bond initiatives)

They already have been OP. Obama moved millions from Medicare/Medicaid to his Ocare to prop up the sinking ship until after he got out of office. Some of these social programs are nothing more than revenue generating machines. Like the $15 minimum wage dems want. I saw an interesting comment posted elsewhere last week that did the spreadsheet figuring and was shocked.
You do the math and figure out the taxation on the wages, and the earner winds up making only about $7.20 per hour. Now that is far less than the actual minimum wage is right now at the moment. Biggest scam in politics right now, and people need to realize that.

Gavin is California’s imperial Governor in the tradition of our imperial president Obozo.
He just thinks it up, says it, and it is so. Who is going to dare to stop him? Look at where this money is being spent. Who are the recipients of the checks and what is the product good or service being provided? It’s a money funnel going to his friends and buddies who are becoming filthy rich thanks to his open blatant corruption. Eventually the cash will come back to him.

In response to reply 9 (mobyclik), yes, we have had enough. But over the last 30 or so years, the illegal population here has exploded, and in California illegals vote along with everyone else. And guess for who, and what they vote for? Yep, that’s right, for the Democrats and all the free stuff they can get the rest of us hard working citizens to pay for…

#6, you mean that rule "A preposition is a terrible thing to end a sentence with"? 🙂
Yeah, all rules of grammar have nearly collapsed, since it apparently hasn't been taught in schools for decades. The noun "invitation" has been widely replaced by the lazy, Beverly Hillbillies version, using the verb "invite" as a noun. People look blank when you correct that, I think many actually don't know it is invalid. Several other verbs have been "nouned" in search of life with a 2,500 word vocabulary. Some posters here even have jettisoned all capitalization and punctuation in the rush to embrace the grammar-free world.
