Convicted former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich went on Fox News in his first post-release interview and held very little back about Barack Obama's involvement in the scandal that put him in prison, while the first black president was never held accountable. Appearing on "Watters' World" with Jesse Watters, Blagojevich was quickly asked about the 2008 Senate-seat-for-sale scandal, in which Blagojevich had negotiated appointing an Obama-approved candidate, in exchange for a cabinet position. “Did you ever talk to Barack Obama about this Senate seat? While this site's commenter's joke about this a lot (threat of revenge killings for revealing the truth about corrupt Democrats), I believe this one is no joke. The things Blagojevich knows about people at the very top could very likely get him killed. We're talking Chicago here.

This whole thing is a head scratcher. My working hypothesis is that Blagojevich was inconvenient to the Obama team and to the Chicago machine and they needed to get him out of the way for reasons unrelated to the charges against him. Instead of killing him they had him tried over a period of almost four years and then imprisoned the same year that Obama began his second presidential campaign. He was charged with crimes in December, 2008, right after Obama's first presidential election and was finally jailed in the spring of 2012, as Obama's second campaign began. If Blago was a threat, I can't figure out how he survived prison without a chiv to the neck. He never actually sold Obama's senate seat and he was convicted of, among other things, lying to the FBI, an increasingly familiar charge that some pay a price for and others don't. If Blagojevich knows anything that will compromise the Democratic in-crowd how is he safe to roam around and talk to various reporters? Something really is off about this whole thing.

Bernie Sanders is on the go all the time -- which seems to have given him a momentary case of a campaign brain fart as he accidentally boarded the wrong jet. The Democratic front-runner was spotted Saturday making his way off of a private Gulfstream between campaign stops in South Carolina and Massachusetts -- the latter being where he held a rally at Boston Common ahead of Super Tuesday. Fact is ... the S.C. primary looks like it's gonna go to Joe Biden, as he's well ahead of everyone else in the latest polls. Looks like Bernie's cutting his losses and moving on. As for this little mix-up here, it's kinda funny.

China’s stock market is the world’s best performer, thanks in part to massive fiscal stimulus in response to last year’s trade war and this year’s virus epidemic. That’s what governments are supposed to do in response to natural disasters, and the rest of the world should do the same thing. (Snip) With major US equity indices down more than 10% from last week’s record highs, equity markets in the West are sending an economic danger signal. Equity market sectors most exposed to the consequences of the epidemic are the worst performers. Energy and basic industries lead the declines, with 20% declines in airlines, hospitality, oil and gas, and basic materials.

The coronavirus crisis is testing political systems all over the world. In China it is challenging Xi Jin Ping because he 'owns' the system, Melinda Liu writes in Foreign Policy. "The party has something to do with everything in China, especially under Xi Jinping—and suddenly, for Xi, that has become a double-edged sword. As president, party head, and top military commander, Xi has consolidated his authority, centralized decision-making, abolished presidential term limits, and promoted his loyalists. People expect Xi, China’s 'chairman of everything,' to fix everything when it goes wrong." And there's a lot wrong. The virus is devouring the entire Chinese medical system.

New cases of coronavirus in China were running at 5,000 a day only a couple of weeks ago. The count of new cases is down to less than 100 a day, if you believe China's numbers. I don't, but the World Health Organization's declaration yesterday that the epidemic had peaked in China probably is accurate. Just look at the world's stock markets. China's equity indices barely fluttered during the past couple of days while the US and Europe lost 3%-4%. The threat of an epidemic in Italy appears to have pushed markets over the edge. Here's a chart published this morning by the research department at JP Morgan:
