So much for the taunt from Iran’s “supreme leader,” Ayatollah Khamanei, that America “cannot do a damn thing” about Iran’s attack on our embassy in Baghdad. It took President Trump but a day after that jibe to wheel on the Iranians. He launched a drone attack that found and killed the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, General Qassim Soleimani. It is likely to mark a turning point in the not-so-quasi war that Iran has been levying against us — and, among others, Israel. This is not a situation in which responsibility is being debated on murky evidence.

The 2020 Democratic presidential field is in near unanimous agreement that fracking has to be banned or at least regulated to death over time. It plays well to the party’s base, especially its green fringe. It’s also an endorsement of recession. Joe Biden, currently atop the Democratic primary polls, recently said he would “love to” ban fracking “right now,” and would also “love to make sure we can’t use any oil or gas, period,” reports Common Dreams, a website that caters to leftist and socialist devotees. But the decelerated Delawarean’s plan is to “transition away from” fracking rather than killing it all at once. So put him in the “slow death”

Democrats are a lot of annoying and awful things, and God forbid they should roll back into power in the next election. But they're also ridiculous, obnoxious, sanctimonious, constantly getting caught unawares of how preposterous their positions have placed them. Watching the Democratic Presidential candidates debate the best way to fix health care, it’s difficult to escape the impression that they suffer from collective amnesia. Their party had its shot at reforming the system a decade ago and blew it by passing a slapdash “reform” program that clashed so violently with the laws of economics that it became a symbol of big government overreach, bureaucratic ineptitude, and broken campaign promises. Ten years on, two of the top contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination have tacitly admitted this by pledging to replace it with some version of single-payer. The leading candidate in that contest, however, wants to retread Obamacare.
2019: The Left Goes Over the Edge replies

The left has always been a movement in danger of going straight over the edge. You can see it in the rhetoric, the agenda, the public behavior, and the quality of people it attracts. Many of us have been waiting for years for it to blow up like a Soviet-era nuclear reactor. But although individual leftists have redlined (Hillary, Anthony Weiner, your name here), the movement as a whole has repeatedly pulled out before going into the abyss. There always seems to be a rescuing hand extended from somewhere or other. (More on that later.) That’s why 2019 was such a satisfactory year – much more satisfactory than most.

The U.S. killing of Qassim Soleimani In Baghdad on Thursday ends an enduring threat. At least in the short term, however, it will unleash Iranian retaliation. The leader of the external action arm of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Soleimani long led that regime's efforts to destroy its enemies and expand its revolution. From an explosive campaign that killed hundreds of U.S. soldiers in Iraq, to supporting Bashar Assad's regime with legions of Shiite fighters and IRGC operatives, to conducting a campaign of bombings and assassinations and intimidation across the world, Soleimani was a master of his very dark arts. The successful operation against Qassem Soleimani, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, is a stunning blow to international terrorism and a reassertion of American might. It will also test President Trump's Iran strategy. It is now Trump, not Ayatollah Khamenei, who has ascended a rung on the ladder of escalation by killing the military architect of Iran's Shiite empire. For years, Iran has set the rules. It was Iran that picked the time and place of confrontation. No more. Reciprocity has been the key to understanding Donald Trump. Many folks on the left and in the media are accusing McConnell of the dreaded sin of hypocrisy. But his positions are in fact entirely consistent. A defining feature of the 2016 battle over the Scalia vacancy was that President Obama and the Senate majority were from opposing political parties.
