Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, speaking from the chamber’s floor Friday, rejected House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s efforts to shape a pending impeachment trial as “fantasy”—leaving the process at a standstill as lawmakers return from the holiday recess. “Their turn is over. They’ve done enough damage. It’s the Senate’s turn now to render sober judgment,” McConnell, R-Ky., said on the Senate floor.(Snip)McConnell called Pelosi’s effort to “hand-design” the proceedings in the Senate a “non-starter” and a “fantasy.”

The House passed the two articles of impeachment - done deal however stupid. I cannot find anything in the Constitution which says that these articles must be delivered to the Senate or that Pelosi has anything at all to do which might delay Senate action?????

Mitch McConnell gave a great speech on the floor today and I've not always been a fan, but today he gets a Thank You.

NOW the Democrats are interested in precedent? They had no interest in precedent when they controlled the process., but now they want to call upon it.

The Senate should just pass a rule that if the articles are not delivered within X number of days, the Senate can proceed to trial without official delivery.

Boy, that is the perfect, short and sweet answer.
"Their turn is over."
In more ways than one.
Well played, Sen. McConnell, so far. I hope that this is going to be short in the Senate. IMO, over one day is excessive.

These are the same witnesses the House tried to call and when Trump claimed executive privilege they dropped it and invented a new law which basically says that this is Obstruction of Congress. They didn’t want to wait for the courts since this is so very urgent. Schumer wants to now drag out the Senate trial until the election by waiting out the same courts. They seem to think that this is a brilliant strategy except that a) they are the minority and b) everyone sees through their BS.

How can there be an impasse if one side (The House under Pelosi) has no standing.

Yes, an excellent speech by the Mitch Man.
What is it they say about some men having greatness thrust upon them? Might the much-derided McConnell be one of those? The outlook is not unencouraging.

I deeply hope that 2020 is a good year for the American public, and a very bad year for the Democrats. If the Republican Party can consistently hammer home the messages that 1) Trump lowered taxes, 2)Trump policies lowered the unemployment rates to record lows, 3)Trump foreign policy lead to gains in our economy, 4) Democrats did nothing for the American people for four years while obstructing a duly elected President who just happens to be reversing decades of economic stagnation and eliminating over-regulation....the Dems may finally be put into the dustbins of history. An election landslide like Reagan over Carter would be a a likely result.

Pelosi and her gang want a cloud to be over DJT during the presidential campaign. The DNC will run tv ads in that fashion, hoping they can retain the House and win the presidency.
I don't think it will work, but it will change American politics forever.

The Senate should give Nasty Nancy two weeks to send the paperwork over. And if not, the Senate should deem the documents delivered and immediately dismiss them and not accept a new set of documents.

I think we should all take the view that if there is no impeachment passed to the Senate, it didn't happen.
The non-existent, fraudulent, fake "impeachment" will be a historic joke on the Demonrats.

What "impasse" ? The House of Reps has not yet charged ANYBODY of any crime. The "impasse" exists in the minds of the media social and otherwise. Until SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE is charged with a crime, no trial is necessary. Social and other media, kiss my butt.

If San Fran Nan is going to break precedent by not sending the Articles of Impeachment to the senate, McConnel should break precedent and say any articles are now null and void and there will be no trial.
