Bill Gates has become the latest billionaire to call for higher taxes on America's über-rich. The 64-year-old Microsoft founder—who is the second wealthiest person in the world with an estimated fortune of $114 billion—penned a New Year's Eve blog post detailing various ways that the government could extract more revenue from the wealthiest Americans.(Snip) Despite conceding that his proposals might not be popular with many moneyed Americans, Gates suggested that lawmakers could target the affluent by raising capital gains tax rates, increasing taxes on inheritances, and taxing fortunes that are sitting untouched in banks.

Bill, why didn't you pay your employees more? Why didn't you reduce product prices? Your employees and customers could have used your money better than enlarging the government.

Hey Bill, here you go. VeteransCommunityProject.org. You could afford to put at least one in every large and medium city in America. You gonna step up? I doubt it.

Politician Greed-Meisters will NEVER be satisfied with taxing the "rich" (which these liars deny is discrimination). The Federal Income Tax was instituted to affect only the Robber Barons who were deemed, back in the day, as overly wealthy. Funny thing though, when the general public didn't object to this taxation OF OTHERS (Ah, ENVY), the greed-meister politicians got the bright idea that they could "legally" confiscate the earnings of any number of other less-well-offs such that the pols could then SPEND much MORE. Fast forward to today and look what the middle class tax burden IS, AND what it is about to become as the deficit & debt needs SOMEONE to pay it off. Middle-America: you're elected, Pal, because confiscating ALL of the rich's money won't run this profligate government for very long.

Why do you need a law, Bill? You can voluntarily give more in taxes without a law just by not using tax loopholes or taking deductions. Put your money where your mouth is!

The parasites of the world classify anyone as 'rich' who aren't them. THEY always end up with lots more than the fools who buy their pious intentions.

Well, I propose a 40% 'conscience tax' for people like BG. Totally voluntary, of course. If you have it, and feel guilty, here's a way to pay it forward, dude, without screwing everyone else. Just 'do it'.

I thought you were a smart guy, Bill. Lifting that max on FICA would mean the wealthy would get even more monthly money from Social Security because it was never meant to be a tool for income redistribution. Somehow I see all of these "changes" affecting me and not you. And, by the way, the people you call working class don't pay any taxes.

About 1/3 of my pay gets confiscated. Some of that is my share of medical insurance, but most is taxes. Federal, State, SS. And I am not among the "rich".

There is an easy fix Bill, eliminate the foundations that are the vehicles for tax shelters for the uber rich. Without the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation protections you are sure to pay enough taxes to relieve your angst.

Here we go again. These robber barrons do this every election year. Why don't the uber rich like greedy Gates ever volunteer to pay ALL! the taxes and relieve the rest of us, so we pay NONE? Then, they might impress the rest of us with their yakkity-yak. Until you write an additional check for more taxes than you owe, shudduP!

19 of 1/10th of the richest 1%! What kind of doubletalk is that?
Government SPENDING. Corruption through kickbacks to Politicians through not-for-profits and foreign entities. Children of Politicians or ex-politicians going into the 'family business' and lobbying their Mommy/Daddy/Grandma/Grandpa/Uncles/Aunts et al on behalf of interested parties (here and abroad), should be rooted out and prosecuted severely.
And yet, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffett, Pierre deLecto, the Koch brother, and countless others continue their business as usual, fleecing the sheep; the American people.
It's disgusting and needs to end. I hope John Durham lives long enough to get all of this out in the open. Then he needs to find a judge who isn't compromised and won't recuse himself. It's all connected.

This shows that just because someone gets very rich they are not all knowing.
If all the billionaires paid half their income to the US government, hat would it do for American society?
The powers would use it to buy votes to further get us closer to socialism. If the same billionaires used that money to expand their own business or to develop new businesses, more people would be employed and productive to society.

Democrats in Mass. demanded their be a additional line placed on the State Income Tax Form that if you so chose you could volunteer to be taxed at a higher rate. So far, no Mass, Politician has taken advantage, including I would assume, Elizabeth Warren.

Sorry, Mr Gates, it sounds good, until one realizes that very wealthy folks do ALL THEY CAN to avoid paying taxes. There are multiple ways to do so, like charitable Foundations, holding municipal bonds, including other types of investments.

Ah, now you can tax me more, since most of my wealth is tied up in a trust that's not going to be touched.
Same problem with Buffett who's put most of his wealth into a trust, similar to what Carnegy, Mellon, Ford, Rockefeller and others did 100 years ago. Those foundations essentially operate to fund the lifestyles of their descendants for decades, and they give a little to some charity to make a splash.

You have no clue about working people Gates, since the majority of your employees are not Americans. So just shut up and go back to your estate, okay? When you start hiring Americans again, then you can have a seat at the table.

The world's preeminent intellectual property thief says "the rich" (including the entirety of Washington state) need to pay higher taxes. Out of the other side of his mouth, he admits to paying the least amount of taxes possible because his so-called charitable foundation spends it much more wisely than the government could.
