Leaders of the United Methodist Church–America’s second-largest Protestant denomination–have announced plans to split the church in two after years of division over same sex marriage. The plan, if approved at the church’s worldwide conference in Minneapolis in May, would divide the denomination into two branches: a traditionalist branch that opposes gay marriage and the ordination of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender clergy, and a more tolerant branch that will allow same-sex marriage and LGBT clergy. The split would affect the denomination globally, church leaders said. The United Methodist Church lists more than 13 million members in the United States

So, they're splitting up into the Christians and the "Whatever's? Or maybe they become what Flip Wilson described as "The Church of What's Happening Now"

Sometimes a divorce makes most sense for both parties. I am somewhat amused by the fact the name of the current church is "United" Methodist Church.
I suspect the gay division will soon die since there will be few children to grow the brood. They don't want to be split off I suspect because, like all leftists, they want access to the larger pool of donations.

You can make a choice in what you believe in, but Gospel is Gospel, whether you choose to believe it or not.

So called ‘’Progressives’’ can’t build anything themselves. They see what the hard working and dedicated build, then set out to denigrate them and steal that which they have built. Who has the backbone to point out their covetousness and stand against their thievery!

Did you say that you are now attending a Methodist Church. Looks like you are going to have freedom of choice on which split to take when they hit their proposed fork in the road!

A traditionalist branch that loves the sinner and hates the sin. And a more liberal branch that tolerates nobody that disagrees with them.
Let's see whose welcome.

The photo accompanying the article is of the congregation inside of an African Methodist Episcopal Church which has nothing to do with the United Methodist Church other than it split off from the latter a long time ago. That is some first class photo journalism there..... I was raised Methodist, but that church left me decades ago.

I belong to our local Methodist Church. We are quite conservative here (Georgia) and a split of some sort has become inevitable. It's probably better to go through an equitable divorce now than to keep the disagreement and acrimony boiling. The problem began when some of the leftist UM bishops agitated for requiring all the UM churches to accept what was called the 'One Church Plan' but the conference voted to keep the 'Traditional Plan' which forbids the ordaining of LBGTQ clergy and officiating at same-sex marriages. Much like the Democrat Party, the left side of the Church doesn't want to accept the result of a fair election. Our local Presbyterian Church split on the same controversy. Just as well that those who want to keep the Gospel let those who don't go their own way.

One either believes in the tenets set forth in the Bible or not. Perhaps a split was inevitable. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING is fluid today.

The picture that appears near the top of the article portrays congregants of the "Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church" (AME Church) holding hands. The folks at Reuters don't know enough about Methodists to realize that the AME Church is NOT part of the United Methodist Church (UMC); it is a separate denomination entirely and has been since it was founded in 1816. The UMC was founded in 1968 as a merger of The Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Why bring this up? It demonstrates yet again how little the lamestream media know and care about religion, especially the Christian variety.

Notice how "anti" is always used by the msm when describing anything they disagree with anti-abortion vs pro-life, anti-gay vs pro-marriage (not the Supreme Court definition)!

A week and a half ago there was a shockingly small turnout at the Christmas Eve Service at my UMC Congregation. At first I was baffled as to why attendance was down so much, but eventually the light bulb went off. The question I then had was which side was it that had begun to bail on the congregation. Was it the libtards who were angered and embittered at having failed to turn the UMC into a "gay old time," or was it my fellow Traditionalists who could read the writing on the wall and had no desire to remain in a church where they are outnumbered three to one? I have a gut feeling about who have departed, and if this split goes down as this article predicts, I likely will be joining them in looking for a new church home.

The Untied* Methodists are asking parishioners to choose between carnal sin and apostasy. (Both lead to the same place, eventually) This brings a little more excitement to the hostess whos says, ''Name your poison." *not a typo*

A person's status as "saved" is between that person and the Almighty.
Scripture is clear on these matters, but it is not up to me to judge.
However, when the Church feels it must become like the World to win the World, it has not won the World, the World has won.
Romans 12:2 "And do not be conformed to this World, but be transformed by the renewing of our mind, that you may prove what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

They should offer the liberals all buildings and cash...all we want is the exclusive right to the name.
Just don't ever call yourselves Methodists, because we have to face our grandparents when we get to heaven and explain what we let happen!

If there’s a traditional liturgy and faithfulness to the Bible, and they get rid of woman ministers (because it will inevitably lead to gay acceptance), then I (and my donations) may be in.

Apparently the Methodist church hierarchy uses a different bible than the rest of us. Watering down the Word to attract a larger membership ($$$) never works out well.
