Several public beaches in the metro will remain closed through the weekend. Three of them are in Minneapolis: Thomas Beach and 32nd Street Beach on Bde Maka Ska and Lake Hiawatha. The others are Lake McCarrons in Roseville and Excelsior Commons on Lake Minnetonka.(snip) Shavonna Williams of St. Paul barely stopped her sons in time before they went into the water. She brought them to the lake to cool off on the sizzling Saturday. Instead of taking a dip, they ducked under the shade of a towering tree. Jeff Carlson of themarketswork.com has carefully examined Bill Clinton’s recent claim that he only flew 4 times on a jet owned by Jeffery Epstein. Unsurprisingly it turns out that it is another one of his tricky uses of language to mislead while still telling the literal truth, such as his claim a quarter century ago that he was “never alone in a hotel” with Paula Jones (because there were lots of other guests and staff in the hotel at the time). In a long and good overview of the Epstein affair, Clinton and Trump, Carlson writes: In 2002 and 2003, President Clinton took

Now it's nonsensical worries about climate change resulting in deliberately built-in inefficiencies in everything from household appliances to transportation methods. Compared to the U.S., Europe’s love of control-down economics leaves it in the dust: “The US GDP is five times that of Germany, seven times that of France and UK, 10 times of that of Italy, and 14 times of that of Spain in 2018.” And when the UK leaves the EU as I predict it will, the gap will be much larger.

Is time finally up for the Clintons? Sometimes it's the little things, such as booing in a stadium, that tell the story. Apparently, Bill and Hillary Clinton got booed big. According to Fox News: After singer Billy Joel dedicated a song to the former first couple and flashed them up on the screen at Madison Square Garden, initial cheers turned to boos from the audience. (Snip) It's surprising, given how untouchable the Clintons have been up until now. They've committed scandal after scandal -- and nothing ever happens to them, not even bad poll numbers let alone handcuffs.

The paper says the memo was written after the then Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson appealed to the US in 2018 to stick with the nuclear deal. Former President Bill Clinton tried to push back on reporting about trips he took with Jeffery Epstein where Secret Service were not listed on flight manifests, but failed to address why records show he took six separate trips on the "Lolita Express." Clinton's press secretary Angel Ureña said Monday that Clinton had traveled four times in total with the alleged child sex trafficker, and "Supporters of the Foundation, and his Secret Service detail, traveled on every leg of every trip.” Ureña only responded to a Washington Examiner inquiry about the trips after publication. Ureña did not reply to repeated questions about the discrepancy between the number of trips Clinton, 72,

In two essays, “Illness as Metaphor” in 1978 and “AIDS and Its Metaphors” in 1988, the critic Susan Sontag observed that you can learn a lot about a society from the metaphors it uses to describe disease. She also suggested that disease itself can serve as a metaphor—a reflection of the society through which it travels. In other words, the way certain illnesses spread reveals something not just about a nation’s physiological health but also about its cultural and political health. For instance, AIDS would not have ravaged America as fully as it did without institutionalized homophobia, which inclined many Americans to see the disease as retribution for gay sex.

Vice President Biden’s promise to resume the Obama administration’s appeasement of the theocratic dictators of Iran is a shocking marker. It is the headline news in the foreign policy platform Mr. Biden just outlined in a speech at New York University. It comes from the politician said to be the most centrist figure in the Democratic scrum. So it will reinforce President Trump’s credibility in the coming campaign. On the one hand, this isn’t surprising. Mr. Biden himself has always been a weak figure in the Middle East. When he was on the Foreign Relations Committee, he was so condescending to Menachem Begin that the visiting Israeli premier publicly

Rep. Devin Nunes said Republicans plan to grill former special counsel Robert Mueller about his top prosecutor when he testifies in an open setting later this month. Andrew Weissmann, who was known as Mueller's "pitbull," will be the subject of multiple lines of inquiry, the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee told Fox News' Bill Hemmer on an episode of the "Hemmer Time" podcast. In a preview of what he and his GOP colleagues will ask on July 24, Nunes said Mueller will be pressed on why the FBI withheld from his panel that Weissmann briefed Associated Press reporters in 2017 on "something to do with the Trump-Russia investigation"

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pacing the stage at a cyberconference in Tel Aviv, and he is not happy. He’s holding his shoulders up and back, a stage tip he got from Sean Connery. His red tie, white shirt and dark suit mirror a certain American President who has emerged as a massive Netanyahu ally. But there’s a problem. Graphics on the giant screen behind him keep

We should have seen this coming: After less than a year in office, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez already has become the most tediously predictable person in politics. Ocasio-Cortez, the would-be Taylor Swift of the Democratic Party, habitually dismisses her critics and those of her “Squad” — as the four new champagne radicals in the House call themselves — as racists and sexists. Nancy Pelosi, the leader of her party in the House, is only the latest target of this strategy. Pelosi, she says, habitually singles out “newly elected women of color” such as herself for criticism. It is, AOC says, part of a pattern. Which is, ironically, part of a pattern.

A lex Acosta did a bad job on the Jeffrey Epstein case. This column was nearly finished when news broke Friday that he would resign as labor secretary. I was going to argue that his lapses did not justify joining the nakedly political mau-mauing by Democrats who have no interest in exploring the behavior of Democrats who are neck-deep in a monstrous pedophile’s activities. My friend Jennifer Braceras has ably addressed that point in a Washington Examiner column. I was also going to add that I’d shed no tears if President Trump forced Acosta out — easy for me to say, since I think (a) he should never

Remember Tom Hanks’ famous line from “A League of Their Own”? “There’s no crying in baseball.” Well, if President Trump had coined a motto back in 2016, it probably would have been, “There’s no apologizing in politics.” No matter how much outrage Trump sparked, he never said he was sorry. You could argue that there were times when an apology was warranted. (The McCain War Hero debacle in 2015 comes to mind). But there is no arguing that Trump’s strategy was a bold one. And as the 2020 election nears, he is still the only individual steering clear of the words, “I’m sorry.”

Shortages of gas for heating have hit the nation’s most important city: New York. Following moves by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy to nix a pipeline that could deliver vital gas supplies to the city and Long Island, National Grid can no longer offer new gas hookups or additional service for current customers. “If you’re looking to expand your natural gas service in Brooklyn, Queens or Long Island, we will not be able to meet your request,” unless both states reverse their decisions and OK the pipeline, the utility warns. Con Ed may have to turn away customers, too.

A protest outside the federal immigration detention center in Tacoma last year drew headlines when a 68-year-old man wrapped his arms around a police officer’s throat and shoulders in an apparent attempt to free another protester. When police got the man into handcuffs, they found a collapsible baton and knife in his pocket, leading to criminal charges. Early Saturday morning, that man, Willem Van Spronsen of Vashon Island, returned to the Northwest Detention Center, the holding facility for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, this time armed with a rifle and incendiary devices, according to Tacoma police. Police said Van Spronsen tossed lit objects at vehicles and buildings,
