KABUL, Afghanistan - An American soldier died in Afghanistan on Saturday. The Department of Defense says Sgt. Maj. James G. Sartor was from Teague, Texas, which is about an hour outside of Waco.
According to authorities, he died from injuries from enemy small arms fire in the Faryab Province. The Taliban is claiming responsibility for the attack. Sartor was 40 years old. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group out of Fort Carson. He joined the Army in June 2001 and was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division as an infantryman. He completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2005. He deployed to Iraq

A woman found dead in the trunk of a car Friday evening was the founder of Baton Rouge's African American history museum who helped jumpstart annual Juneteenth celebrations during her work as "a tireless advocate of peace." Police in Washington state say an armed man was shot and killed early Saturday after trying to attack a local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center. The Seattle Times reported that the unidentified man appeared outside of the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma with a rifle and threw incendiary devices at both the facility and nearby propane tanks, at one point setting a vehicle on fire. Well, if President Trump had coined a motto back in 2016, it probably would have been, “There’s no apologizing in politics.”
No matter how much outrage Trump sparked, he never said he was sorry. You could argue that there were times when an apology was warranted. (The McCain War Hero debacle in 2015 comes to mind).
But there is no arguing that Trump’s strategy was a bold one.

Following moves by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy to nix a pipeline that could deliver vital gas supplies to the city and Long Island, National Grid can no longer offer new gas hookups or additional service for current customers.
“If you’re looking to expand your natural gas service in Brooklyn, Queens or Long Island, we will not be able to meet your request,” unless both states reverse their decisions and OK the pipeline, the utility warns. Con Ed may have to turn away customers, too.

A protest outside the federal immigration detention center in Tacoma last year drew headlines when a 68-year-old man wrapped his arms around a police officer’s throat and shoulders in an apparent attempt to free another protester.
When police got the man into handcuffs, they found a collapsible baton and knife in his pocket, leading to criminal charges.
Early Saturday morning, that man, Willem Van Spronsen of Vashon Island, returned to the Northwest Detention Center, the holding facility for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, this time armed with a rifle and incendiary devices, according to Tacoma police.
Police said Van Spronsen tossed lit objects at vehicles and buildings,
A man who was armed with a rifle and throwing Molotov cocktails at the ICE Tacoma Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Wash., was killed by responding police officers, according to the authorities.
At around 4 a.m. on Saturday, the Washington state man, who has not yet been publicly identified, threw “incendiary devices” at the ICE detention center and nearby cars, setting one on fire.
“The male attempted to ignite a large propane tank and set out buildings on fire,” a statement released by the Tacoma police department said. “The male continued throwing lit objects at the buildings and cars.”
The man also had a satchel and flares.
