German Chancellor Merkel and other European leaders have highlighted their shared defense potential on Bastille Day amid rifts with the US. Troops from 10 countries participated in the annual Paris parade. Key European leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte joined French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday to commemorate France's national holiday, Bastille Day, which marks the July 14, 1789 storming of the Bastille fortress in Paris during the French Revolution.

So the cheese eating surrender monkey had a parade with their former deadly enemies because the USA did earlier this month. Showing off your cool old jets? Kind of like a vintage car show.

The "rift" in NATO is simply PDJT observing that all signatories to the treaty agreed to spend a minimum of 2% on their national defense. The Europeans are outraged that he has the gall to expose their failure to hold up their end of the bargain. They prefer to lie back and let Uncle Sugar carry the load militarily. Remember their impotence in dealing with the Bosnia mess during Clinton's time? They couldn't even get their troops to the Balkans (their own backyard) without U.S. military transport assets.

Typical Kraut reporting! Full of themselves! Where were these 'mighty' Euro battalions before, during and after WWII?? They forgot to invite their dear leader Putin!

The tanks were French LeClerc tanks. Don't know much about the modern French tank, but I've read good things about Gen. LeClerc as commander of the French 2d Armored Division in WWII. I think the German Leopard II tanks are very good, and we use the same 120mm Rheinmetall gun on the Abrams. However, the driver in the Leo II has to be constantly on top of his machine as it has a tendency to lurch suddenly and head off in the direction of Poland.

Although Iran has increased its uranium stockpile, experts say Tehran is still a long way from a nuclear weapon. However, more uranium enrichment risks EU and UN sanctions, and renewed tension between Iran and the world. On Monday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that Iran had exceeded the amount of low-enriched uranium the country is allowed to possess under the 2015 nuclear accord, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Williamson, a fringe contender for the White House, drew quizzical looks for her policy proposals, particularly her plans for her first act as president. "My first call is to the prime minister of New Zealand, who said that her goal is to make New Zealand the place where it's the best place in the world for a child to grow up, and I would tell her, 'Girlfriend, you are so wrong,

On Thursday, Juan Guaido woke up and doused himself with a bucket of water. It was his shower. Like millions of Venezuelans, the man who dozens of countries recognize as the legitimate leader of his broken country can’t rely on the taps to run. “It’s one of the things I hate most,” the 35-year-old lawmaker said in an interview. “It’s a symbol of poverty, and during much of my life I had to do it.”

Are you a socialist? Quick! Spit it out. Yes or no. No looking it up in Merriam-Webster. No phoning a friend. Socialism and you: yay or nay? Ever since I visited Cuba last November, I've realized this is a question I am ill-equipped to answer at gunpoint. I'm speaking metaphorically of course. The country has a notoriously low crime rate. Prior to my trip, socialism had evoked pleasant associations. Health care for all. Paid parental leave. A fair rental market. The kinds of things you'd have to be a bit weird to dislike. Now I also see an old woman queueing up in a supermarket with a ration book.

A U.S. senator and former presidential candidate said the U.S. military should invade Venezuela if Cuba does not immediately remove its security forces from the country, calling Cuba the Western Hemisphere’s version of Iran. In a Wall Street Journal op-ed posted online Wednesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican who leads the Senate Judiciary Committee, favorably compared potential military action in Venezuela to the U.S. invasion of Grenada in 1983, an operation that lasted about a week and led to the overthrow of the Caribbean nation’s military-run government.

Nobody likes a loser who can’t accept defeat. Hillary Clinton apparently can’t understand that American voters just didn’t like her. She’s still reenacting the 2016 presidential campaign in her mind and finding new ways to blame us all for her loss. Now, the failed Democratic nominee brought her blame game to new levels by complaining about being told she shouldn’t complain. She claims people are telling her to shut down her blame game tour because she is a woman and that nobody wants a male loser to shut his pie hole.

The nation of Venezuela is in a state of crisis. Over the past few years, corruption and failed government policies have led Venezuela's economy to collapse, causing infrastructure to crumble and leaving millions of Venezuelans in poverty. The hardships faced by residents include catastrophic nationwide blackouts, hyperinflation, food shortages, and disease. The New York Times recently called the crisis the worst the world has ever seen outside of war. More than 3 million Venezuelans have fled the country since the crisis began, many of them walking out on foot.

I called my grandmother recently to check up on her. She lives in Caracas, Venezuela, and I was anxious to see how she was holding up. It was a Friday, the eve of another protest called for by interim President Juan Guaidó. Was it the sixth protest? Or the seventh? In the five months of heightened tension and crisis in Venezuela, I’ve lost count. My grandma, Dora Lopez, was in good spirits. She was in the middle of cooking pasta con caraotas, a working class dish made up of black beans and spaghetti often looked down upon by upper-class palates, but at my grandma’s, this dish is sacred.

Havana says it will extend the rationing of food and other products in the face of hardened US sanctions. The political and economic crisis in Venezuela is also partially to blame. The Cuban government will widen the wholesale rationing of staple food items and other basic products in the face of a grave supply crisis, Commerce Minister Betsy Diaz Velazquez said Friday. She said some items, such as chicken, would be limited to a fixed amount per purchase or per customer. Other items, including eggs, rice, beans and sausages, would only be available to buy with a ration card

Regular readers know that I am a fan of President Trump, and more often than not, a fan of his use of social media. But today he committed the worst unforced error of his presidency, one that we will hear about from the Democrats from now until November 2020. This morning the president tweeted about “‘Progressive’ Democratic Congresswomen”: [Tweet]I assume Trump is talking about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “Squad,” and I share his low opinion of those ill-informed leftists. And no doubt he had in mind Ilhan Omar when he referred to “countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe,” etc. His description certainly applies to Somalia.
