Is Washington About to Replace One Iranian
Tyranny with Another?

Original Article

The issue is no longer whether the regime in Tehran is under strain — it clearly is — but whether Washington is preparing, consciously or not, to replace a brutal clerical dictatorship with a brutal military one. The idea that a military structure could serve as a "moderate" transitional governing authority in Iran seems to rest on the fragile assumption that professionalism leads to moderation. Regional history says otherwise. From Egypt to Pakistan, militaries that stepped in to "restore order" entrenched their own authoritarian rule. Iran offers no reason to believe it would be different.

I think a "brutal military one" would be the better choice. At least their women wouldn't have to wear those body bags and be allowed to wear attractive clothes again. Gays wouldn't be tossed off tall buildings and the goats would be safe from sexual advances.

Tyranny is par for the course in Muslim countries, only option is to try and finesse one so that it isn't anti-USA. They are very big on "strong men" so carrying a really big stick is definitely a plus.

It is up to the Iranians to free themselves from tyranny. Our job is to assure that Iran is never a threat, by keeping Iran powerless and broke. Islam is tyranny, but the most we can do is to stop importing Muslims or sharia law, and to the extent possible, cease doing business with them and disempowering them in every practical way..

The "democratic" government we installed in Iraq at great cost was, until the US military action, a de facto ally of Iran. Something similar to what we have achieved in Venezuela may be the best we do in Iran.

President Washington's term in office ran from 1789 to 1797 and he died in late 1799. So why does the author personify Washington, not a person but the seat of our national government, when President Trump has clearly been unilaterally calling the shots in this undeclared war? I assume that the author reasoned that if he indicated criticism of Trump up front or in the headline, then the gist of his article would not be read by the masses of the president's die-hard supporters The author, Rehov, eventually gets around to addressing President Trump's assumed decision making trajectory vis-a-vis Iran. FTA: "For Trump to declare victory based on a ceasefire, partial concessions, or the emergence of supposedly "pragmatic" actors would be catastrophically naïve." Rehov may well have subtitled the article by quoting lyrics from The Who's "Wont Get Fooled Again: "Meet the New Boss Same as the Old Boss."

It seems to me that trying to determine what type of government Iran should have, and trying to impose that government on Iran, wanders off into 'nation-building' which recent experience has shown generally does not work. The main objective is to MAKE SURE that Iran is not -and will not become- an Atomic-armed threat primarily to the USA, and secondarily to other nations in the region.

The author makes several good points and I agree with most of them. However he seems to see the issue as completely black or white, with no allowance for the gray that comes with practical reality given these circumstances. He also neglects to provide a method or path toward his preferred outcome; How could the US and Israel erase the IRGC and the Basij; in order for the people then to create their own government and their own military? I don't see an immediate solution either but I have hope that the Shah will eventually find his way back into Iran with the support of Israel, the US, and the people of Iran.

The clerics held power because they were supported by the military. The military may not have the title, but they have the power.

At the behest of abortion activist groups, the Biden administration’s Department of Justice weaponized the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act to disproportionately prosecute and jail pro-lifers for exercising their First Amendment-protected right to protest, a new report reveals. The 882-page report released on Tuesday details, with five key findings, exactly how the DOJ under Biden executed its years-long lawfare campaign that put nearly two dozen of its pro-life political opponents in prison. The investigation was triggered by President Donald Trump’s February 2025 “Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias” executive order and former Attorney General Pam Bondi’s simultaneous “Restoring the Integrity and Credibility of the Department of Justice” memo.

Argentina President Javier Milei recently had some sharp words for the political left. But his observation is backed by more than his experience. Research makes it clear that the various strains of leftism, from today’s American Democratic Party to Democratic Socialists to green radicals to the tens of millions of voters who are attracted to progressive candidates and policies, are fueled by an emotional crisis. We beg our brothers and sisters on the left to consider why they do what they do. Milei, a defender of laissez-faire economic policy, said he once “thought being on the left was a mental problem.”

The Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East is hardly the only waterway on President Donald Trump’s mind at the moment. While Trump and the international media may be talking about the Strait of Hormuz nonstop, the broader questions about other sea lanes and shipping waterways have very much dominated the geopolitical discussion worldwide upon Trump’s return to the White House and have been at the center of tensions between the U.S. and China, set for a worldwide primetime showdown when Trump visits Beijing in May. A top Greek government official is dishing on how Trump and his envoy to the Hellenic Republic have outmaneuvered Chinese President Xi Jinping —

Equally disturbing is the role of Al-Jazeera itself. Owned, funded, and controlled by the government of Qatar, Al-Jazeera, particularly its Arabic-language channel, has long provided a platform for Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood movement. Its coverage frequently echoes Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood narratives, and amplifies anti-Israel propaganda and antisemitic rhetoric. Reports by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) have documented Al-Jazeera providing a platform for guests who assert that Jews are "enemies of Muslims and all humanity" or that they control global affairs.

By blocking Iranian exports in retaliation for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the Trump administration is poised to strip the cash-strapped regime in Tehran of one of its last streams of revenue. President Donald Trump ordered the blockade to begin on Monday after negotiations in Pakistan between U.S. and Iranian officials ended in a stalemate. In those negotiations, Iranian officials steadfastly refused to drop their demand for a new role in governing the vital waterway. Iran, which has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the conflict with the U.S. earlier this year,

Whoever’s calling the shots in Iran wasted yet another chance for peace over the weekend, and now President Donald Trump will again call Tehran’s bluff. Iran’s negotiators refused to satisfy America’s demands Saturday in talks in Pakistan, as regime leaders bet that playing the Strait of Hormuz card would get Trump to blink. Instead, he played it right back at them — announcing his own blockade, so that Iran’s oil exports (which had continued despite the war) will also be blocked.

Stiffen the sinews, conjure up the blood, and disguise fair nature with hard-favored rage. Before he launched a daring military capture of the dictator Nicholas Maduro, President Donald Trump brought the Venezuelan economy to its knees with a naval blockade that strangled the nation’s oil revenues. If Iran refuses to accept the final deal the United States offered Saturday, Trump could bomb Tehran back to the “Stone Ages” as he vowed. Or he could reprise his successful blockade strategy to choke an already teetering Iranian economy and ratchet up diplomatic pressure on China and India by cutting them off one of their key sources of oil.

Wayne Allyn Root — businessman and ebullient, unapologetic conservative — wrote something the other day that caught my eye. Why? Because Americans who are not die-hard leftists “can no longer live with radical, extreme, self-destructive, communist SUICIDE BOMBERS.”

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) on Monday signed into law a bill eliminating tax exemptions for multiple organizations connected to the Confederacy. Democrats in the Virginia House and Senate passed HB167 with vote totals of 62-35 and 21-17, respectively, earlier this year. The bill specifically removes the Virginia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and the Confederate Memorial Literary Society, among other similar groups, from the list of organizations exempt from state property taxes. The UDC, a nonprofit, was founded in 1894 by women “seeking to honor their family members and ancestors” who served in the Confederate military or contributed to the Southern war effort, its website states.
