MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. — Dozens of people looking for seashells found something much bigger, and perhaps "greater," off of Florida's coast. Around 49 guests with Hubbard's Marina in Madeira Beach went on a shelling excursion at around 11:15 a.m. Friday when they found a roughly 10-foot Great White shark 25-75 yards from the shoreline of Shell Key. The shark was seen in the area for following large schools of tarpon fish as it was "displaying a calm but curious demeanor." "Seeing a shark of this size and grace so close to the island is a 'stop-everything' moment for our guests," Captain Dylan Hubbard, Owner of Hubbard’s Marina, said in a statement. "We see

Comments:

Yes, we have them here! Best time to see great white sharks in the Tampa Bay region is winter and early spring, after that tasty tarpon. Orcas are also around. Bull sharks are probably the most dangerous creatures around here. They'll bite anything. The swimming pool is safer than the Gulf of America.

A college roommate showed up at a reunion decades after graduation with horrendous scars on both forearms. I asked how he'd gotten such impressive scars, he smiled and said, "A great white". Now, Charlie was always a bit of a joker, so I said, "Yeah, right, now really how'd that happen." He got serious and explained that he and a friend had gone about 20 miles out off of the Tampa Bay area to snorkel. Charlie grabbed a mask and snorkel and jumped over the side to see if they were in a good spot. As the bubbles cleared from the jump, he saw a "conical nose coming right at me"...and reached to push it away. It was much farther than he thought....because it was a lot bigger than he thought. He didn't reach it, but a second later it opened it's mouth and grabbed both extended arms about mid forearm, and chomped down. It then decided it didn't like what it had bitten and swam off, leaving Charlie bleeding like crazy with all the muscles and tendons of his forearms cut, no hand function at all. His boating companion had seen the swirl and fin of the shark and as Charlie popped up and screamed for help, blood everywhere, he tried to assist. Unfortunately, they didn't have a boarding ladder on the 20 foot inboard outboard boat, normally just climbing up the stern drive unit. With no function in his hands, that was nearly impossible, blood spurting everywhere didn't help. Once in the boat, towels were wrapped tightly on both arms, slowing the bleeding, the Coast Guard was called on channel 16, and they headed in a max speed. Coast Guard said that they could meet them at a particular pier, the nearest available landing point for a helo. They headed that way...and found it was a ship pier, 15-20 ft up from the water. The Coasties lowered one of those basket litters and strapped Charlie is, and lifted him up. He said that if it had been dropped he'd not be able to get out...a scary lift. They flew him directly to a hospital. Many surgeries later, he had full hand use on both sides, except "a bit of weakness in this pinky finger"....and a really nightmarish set of scars. The guy in the boat said it looked like a 15 foot or larger great white, and apparently Charlie had just jumped right in front of it, and it went over to investigate the splash, took a taste and left. Sometimes it's not your day to die. Ya'll be careful out there.

FTA: " it was "displaying a calm but curious demeanor." Sounds like one of the drugged sharks from the Caribbean ingesting the 'cargo' from the runners.

Time for a No-Sharks rally -- too much great white privilege. Dimocrats want to replace with a blue shark.

AGADIR -- Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officially confirmed today that Alireza Tangsiri, commander of its naval forces, died after sustaining severe injuries. Last week, Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Israeli forces killed Tangsiri in an overnight airstrike, and that the operation also killed senior naval officers. He claimed that Tangsiri is the one responsible for many “terrorist” operations and blocking the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian authorities however did not confirm his death at the time of the Israeli announcement. The US -Israel – Iran war continues after US and Israel carried out a joint strike against Iran on February 28, targeting Tehran and several Iranian cities.

A Ventura County woman has died from a rattlesnake bite she suffered while hiking at Wildwood Regional Park, authorities said Wednesday. The recent fatality marks the second rattlesnake-related death in California this month. Experts say record-breaking heat has made the snakes active earlier than usual. Southern California is a hiker’s paradise, but out on the trails, you’re rarely alone. The Southern Pacific rattlesnake is “right at home in the cracks and crevices of the great outdoors,” said local hiker Croy Tan. “Technically, this is where they are. This is their place, you know what I mean,” he added. On March 14, the Ventura County Fire Department said a 46-year-old woman

A form of torture I endure for my research is reading the New York Times morning emails. The phrase “alternate universe” aptly describes its sly, misleading story titles, which demonstrate a built-in bias even before the report itself begins. A good example was a heading marked “Territorial Adventurism” used the other day in reference to Trump’s geopolitical strategy in Iran and elsewhere. Adventurism is defined as “Involvement in risky enterprises, especially in foreign affairs, while disregarding established principles or adverse consequences.” How rich is it when one of the most liberal newspapers in the entire world delivers the news, as opinions, in a manner designed to predispose readers’ views of stories

I remember seeing a comedian on TV years ago who mocked Canadians as “nice people with brown hair.” These days, you wouldn’t use the word “nice” to describe many Canadians. My colleague Rick Moran wrote a piece on Saturday morning about how antisemitism is rife in Canada. Rick wrote: The explosion of antisemitic hate directed at Canadian Jews is without precedent in Canada. Rather than address the hate with concrete action, political, cultural, and religious leaders in Canada could only offer sympathetic words and the "This isn't us" bromide. Except that it is you, Canada. And your tolerance for hate is driving your Jewish friends and neighbors into hiding. It’s not just Jews who

When did getting from point A to point B get so complicated? When the government decided which cars Americans should buy. With the economic and scientific premises behind electric vehicle (EV) mandates collapsing, the EV bubble may burst completely. There is one mandate left to burst: California’s Advanced Clean Cars II (ACC II) regulation, which requires all new vehicles to be 100 percent electric by 2035, or else automakers get penalized. With the federal repeal of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Endangerment Finding in February, the government’s formal scientific basis for EV mandates is gone. State governments no longer have a rational scientific basis for requiring EV sales.

Sharks in the Bahamas have tested positive for cocaine, a new study concludes. Researchers from the Bahamas, Brazil, and Chile also found traces of caffeine and painkillers in the sharks. This isn't a shift in lifestyle from the animals, but rather something that's being forced upon them, as marine pollution becomes ever more pervasive. Finding traces of these substances in a tropical place widely seen as idyllic and pristine is concerning – it seems there are vanishingly few spots on Earth where wildlife can escape our influence. "Pharmaceuticals and illicit drugs are increasingly recognized as contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in marine environments, particularly in areas undergoing rapid urbanization and tourism-driven development,"

Everyone knows this. From the New York Post, VP Vance claims Rep. Ilhan Omar ‘definitely committed immigration fraud’ by allegedly marrying brother. In February 2009, the future Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar married a man named Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. It was her first legal marriage. The marriage ceremony was conducted by a Christian ministesr. There is no dispute about these facts, which are recounted by the Post. All available evidence points to Elmi being Omar’s biological brother. No evidence points away from this fact. But I have never understood the fixation on motivation. As with my “motive unclear” series, the alleged inability to confirm a motive does not erase the underlying act. Perhaps immigration fraud

Among the pub-table strategists and commentators in Europe talking about Iran you often hear the phrase, “This is not our war.” That’s a view as wrong as it is strategically unwise. Of course it is our war. It is far more our war than America’s. The infiltration of European societies by Islamist networks is further advanced and more acute here than in America. (And solidarity with Israel, whose very existence is under threat, ought to be far stronger in Germany than in the United States.)
