Pakistan bombed Afghanistan's capital Kabul as well as two other provinces on Friday, after the Afghan Taliban announced a major offensive against Pakistani military posts near the border on Thursday night. Friday's events escalated a long-running conflict that has had the UN, China, Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia calling on both sides to stop fighting. Gov. Tim Walz denounced the Trump administration’s latest threat to withhold federal funds from Minnesota as another step in a “retribution” campaign as he unveiled a package of legislation Thursday intended to fight fraud in public programs, a persistent problem that provided an impetus for the federal government’s immigration crackdown in Minnesota.
The Democratic governor made the announcement a day after Vice President JD Vance said the administration would “temporarily halt” some Medicaid funding to Minnesota over fraud concerns, as part of what he described as an aggressive drive against the misuse of public funds.
Walz’s proposals were in the works well before Vance’s announcement.

The Trump administration is looking at the issues implicated in Ilhan Omar’s naturalization. The Secret Service has removed a gun from the home of a Michigan man who said he wanted to “shoot” President Trump.
On Tuesday night, during a Warren City Council meeting, retired professor Wesley Arnold stated, “I ordered a high-powered ATL 36X arriving shortly, which I hope to actually use to shoot the president of the United States. I’m not kidding.”
He added, “This is a very high, powerful item. It’s great for a headshot at a distance. I didn’t want it to be delivered by drone because I wouldn’t want something like that to be in the wrong hands.”
