The Vanity Fair interview

When it comes to hit jobs, the 10,000-word Vanity Fair spread on Susie Wiles is a classic of the genre. Chris Whipple, a veteran journalist, producer and author with a career spanning the constellation of left-wing media — CBS’s “60 Minutes,” ABC, MSNBC, CNN, NPR, Politico, The Daily Beast, The New York Times, The Washington Post — has craftily framed the president’s chief of staff in a narrative of typical Trump-derangement fantasies. The wonder is that she let him do it. And there’s no doubt she did. Washington journalism veteran Mark Halperin on his 2WAY podcast says Wiles may have thought the 11 interviews Whipple said she did this year were off the record.

Comments:

Vanity Fair? Bet they ran out of copies this month. The whole dozen.

I'm sure everyone here could have told Ms. Wiles this interview was a STUPID idea. Did she REALLY think that Vanity Fair was going to present her interview accurately and fairly? I don't know what her motivation was for doing it, but the decision to do it--not the interview itself--certainly makes her look like an idiot.

NO member of the Trump administration should EVER talk one-on-one with ANY member if the press. There should always be someone else present. They should NEVER talk on the telephone to any member of the press. Every mainstream newspaper and every liberal hack on tye staff of every magazine is the enemy. Susie Wiles had a serious lapse in judgment. This can never happen again.

I'm sure conservative news outlets approached her for interviews and she declined - too busy, but she apparently found the time over eleven months to chat up a storm with the VF "journalist." I cannot believe she was that naive to start talking smack about the VP, etc to some journalist or anyone outside the WH/Oval Office orbit. I don't care if he promised that it was all off the record. If all conversations were off the record - why would he be wasting his time talking with you Susie?

Is Susie not aware that the left is trying to pick off Trump's staff and appointee's one by one? There have been hits and barbs on all of them. A story every day one of them is unhappy and leaving -- soon. Eleven interviews, and Susie did not take the time to read the transcripts of any of them, and think of how it might appear in the media? And as for the language choices, it is very unprofessional to get personal about people you have to work with every day. Disagree on policy, but everybody has flaws.

I’m hoping the White House had the wherewithal to tape this entire interview, as Trump has done to result in massive court judgements. I’d like to think they got her woozy in a bar with a promise of, “Why yes, Suzy, of course this is all, ‘off the record,’ right now.” It takes a veritable “beast” of a person to control a tongue “loosened” by one-too-many cocktails. Stephen Miller, Sebastian Gorka, or Karoline Leavitt could have handled this interview far better than Suzy did, and probably walk away with a Vanity Fair “trophy head” slung on their belt, instead of the other way around.

Honestly, and I do mean honestly, I'm shocked she fell for it and granted the interviews. It's like she and the rest of the Trump admin have ignored that last 50-60 years of journalism. Take for example, what they did to Newt Gingrich. Newt allowed Tom Brokaw's "fair journalism team" access to the campaign trail from inside the campaign -- riding on the campaign buses, inside perspective of events, etc. What was the result, a total HACK job. Completely biased and unfair. Remember the TIME Magazine cover picture of Newt when he "won" the Man of the Year title? Weird colorized background and he had a mean looking 5 O'Clock shadow? Connie Chung's interview with Newt's frail mother where she set her up to say what Newt thought of Hillary? And, that's just what they did to Newt...no replicate that across so many Republican officials. It always, ALWAYS, ends the same. They are not owed access because they are not fair players. Leavitt should have an MSM DO NOT ENTER sign on her door.

Will Socialism Sweep the Midterms? 5 replies

In recent years, the Democrat party has steadily shifted left, embracing ideas once considered fringe, including open borders, transgenderism, and the Green New Deal. In abandoning the political center to Trump and his MAGA base, Democrats effectively cost themselves the House in 2022 — and the presidency and Senate in 2024. [snip] That Democrat party no longer exists. Rather than recalibrating in anticipation of the looming 2026 midterms and 2028 presidential race, today’s Democrats have accelerated their embrace of far-left ideology, blending with socialist movements — particularly the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Do you know what a “neopronoun” or a “xeopronoun” is? The teachers’ unions want to make sure your little kids do. Earlier this month, the National Education Association held an “Advancing LGBTQ+ Justice” event. Documents obtained by the education watchdog group Defending Education (full disclosure: I am on the group’s board) contained slides illustrating these neo- and xeopronouns. Neopronouns are “new” “pronouns” such as “xe/xem/xyr,” and other letters randomly shoved together. Xeopronouns are for “conceptual identities” such as “cat/cats/catself.” Got it? No? But our kids are being force-fed this garbage in America’s public schools.

The Bondi Beach attack in Australia was shocking, but not at all surprising. Some of the details were distinctive — an idyllic spot on the Pacific Ocean instantly turned into a killing field; a father-son terror squad — but the basic picture of radicalized Muslim immigrants targeting a gathering of Jews was drearily familiar. These events follow the same pattern because the fundamentalist version of Islam is, at its root, hostile to Jews. Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that there was a refugee flow of Unitarians, and some proportion of those Unitarians were antagonistic to traditional Christians — such that they vandalized their businesses, harassed them in the streets,
