Elise Stefanik suddenly drops NY governor

GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik unexpectedly dropped her bid to become New York’s next governor Friday. “While spending precious time with my family this Christmas season, I have made the decision to suspend my campaign for Governor and will not seek re-election to Congress. I did not come to this decision lightly for our family,” she posted on X. “While we would have overwhelmingly won this primary, it is not an effective use of our time or your generous resources to spend the first half of next year in an unnecessary and protracted Republican primary, especially in a challenging state like New York.”

Another three terms & out congresswoman. Now, on to that lifetime pension and benefits. I’m in favor of no pensions for elected offices. They get paid, and that’s enough.

Could she have been "urged" to drop out of the race? By urged was she or family members threatened in some way? The "spending more time with family" reason is tired and overused IMO. It may be a genuine reason but I'm cynical because I know that dems play dirty and threats and blackmail have been part of their playbook for a very long time.

Thus paving the way for a Hochul victory. Do the Republicans have an agreement with the Democrats to not challenge them in New York? Sometimes it looks that way. When I lived in New York, it felt like a waste of time to vote for Republicans. Most of the time they lost. Last New York Republican governor was Pataki in 2007. Last New York Republican senator was D'Amato in 1999. It's been a generation in both cases.

Ready for another exciting episode of "Rampant Welfare Fraud Costs the Taxpayers Billions?" Well, here we are; this time it's Colorado, and the fraud has to do with housing assistance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Investigators have uncovered 221 people receiving federal housing assistance who have no business receiving it, unless one can consider a coffin or an urn "housing." That's right. 221 dead people, out of almost 3,000 people in Colorado who were improperly receiving benefits from HUD. Here's the question: Were these just mistakes, the results of bad record-keeping, or deliberate fraud? Not that either is exactly a comfortable finding; when the answer
