USPS Plans New Price Rises After $9-Billion Loss

Original Article

Posted By: Skinnydip, 11/18/2025 7:45:32 AM

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) plans to increase shipping prices in January as it attempts to stabilize its finances while adapting to a rapidly changing postal delivery market. The proposed changes—which were recently approved by the service's governors—follow the release of its fiscal year 2025 financial results, which showed losses of $9 billion, despite a fairly modest revenue growth. The proposed changes will increase rates by 6.6 percent for Priority Mail, 5.1 percent for Priority Mail Express, 7.8 percent for USPS Ground Advantage, and 6 percent for Parcel Select.

Comments:

I wonder what President Trump thinks about this latest inflationary news.

Could it be that some of these losses may relate to the Biden administrations push to make the USPS buy a new fleet of electric delivery vehicles?

Yeah, that's the way to fix a perfectly flawed business model, raise the prices again. I see only darkness in their future and I don't even need a crystal ball.

So if taxpayers aren't help fund the USPS, who is covering the $9 Billion in annual deficits? They aren't using public markets, also assuming no banks are providing capital so who covers the deficit?

No mention of efficiency. What they need to do is become more efficient, not raise prices. That's laughable for a government entity. Our neighborhood has at least one USPS driver how takes a nap every day in the park rather than return to the office where they might assign him more work. They've hired too many dimocrats.

They keep raising the rates and then lose even more money. When compared to UPS the post office is often slower and cost more!

The wise saying by Milton Freedman comes to mind after reading this article - if you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert in five years there would be a shortage of sand. Be it the postal service, NASA, Amtrak, or any other government agency, the above quote by Freedman would apply. Privatize or abolish these agencies.

Here's a thought, let one of the major shippers take over the USPS, no more government employment, and initiate all the measures needed to bring them into line. The problem with government subsidized agencies is that they're never forced to make hard choices about employees, dealing with losses or streamlining to stay within budgets. This needs to happen at the USPS.

Hey there #5, we must be neighbors because my USPS driver parks for an hour daily in a hidden cul de sac as well. At first I thought he might be having a late lunch but then I wondered why he specifically chooses such a concealed spot, not visible from any other roads.

As to being caught napping in the park...I worked as a rural carrier after I retired from my real job years ago...you got paid by the number of boxes on your route...once the route was done, you were done...oh, and the postmaster would sneak out and drop big notices in boxes to make sure you actually got to those boxes on a specific day...one time I missed a pile of TV Guides that had gotten shoved under my sorting station...I was all loaded up and the postmaster came out and asked where the TV Guides were? I said what guides...he said the ones under your sorting station..by the way they weren't to be used until the next week...I ended up taking them that day, and sorting them off my lap while I delivered..and I really hated the 'box stuffer' ad sheets...so give carriers a break...whatever is wrong with the USPS isn't the fault of the people who carry the mail, in all kinds of weather...

November 15, 2025 "Amber McReynolds, who was re-elected chair of the Postal Board of Governors on Friday, said “long-standing and unnecessary restrictions” are weighing down USPS’s bottom line and “highlight the urgent need for executive and legislative action” so the postal service can be financially sustainable for the long-term. USPS is an independent and mostly self-supporting federal agency." "She said the postal service is currently required to pay a “disproportionate share” into its retiree system compared to other federal agencies. It’s also only allowed to invest postal retirement funds in treasury securities, losing out on hundreds of billions of dollars that could be invested in a diversified portfolio, she added." https://fortune.com/2025/11/15/postmaster-general-costcutting-david-steiner-fedex/ One of the ways to consider.....

Postal volumes have been declining for decades, yet postal prices have increased each year, and still losses every year. Soon, the post office will deliver nothing, but still be operating at a loss. We have had Amazon, Fedex, UPS, DPL, and Walmart come by every day, 5 hours before the DEI post office finally gets here, and spends most of their time on their cellphone talking personal business, and taking 5 times the time for this stop as everyone else.

I had a HS friend whose career was a USPS carrier. He said the only way he could get fired was for stealing. A HS girlfriend's father was caught throwing junk mail under a creek bridge. He was allowed to "retire" but kept his full pension. Inefficiency and outright slacking off on government jobs has caused this. It's why the use of their service is trending toward the private carriers. The big online companies are using FedEx and UPS more and more. Faster and more reliable. I don't have a solution. The USPS used to be a wonderful service, but that was years ago.

Thousands of representatives from all over the world have journeyed to discuss how to cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to try to fight human-caused climate change. But ten years after the Paris Climate Agreement, the global consensus on climate change is crumbling. COP30 is the thirtieth “conference of the parties.” The first took place in Berlin in 1995. At COP21 in Paris in 2015, more than 190 countries signed the Paris Climate Agreement, pledging to cut emissions and to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. About 50,000 people are attending COP30 from more than 190 nations.

America’s crime map is not random. And it is not evenly distributed. It forms a pattern, a persistent outline that says more about the country than any campaign speech or census brochure ever could. When you trace the safest states in America, you trace a corridor of calm: New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont’s shadow, Idaho’s long sweep of farms and foothills. Places where the pace is steady and the population overwhelmingly white. When you trace the most dangerous states, the pattern changes just as sharply — a concentration of chaos in states marked by sprawling cities, fractured communities, and the kind of “diverse” demographic makeup polite society insists you never mention.
