Breaking: Senate Democrats Vote to Shut
Down the Federal Government

Original Article

Senate Democrats have blocked a Republican bill that would have extended federal funding for seven weeks, with the final tally coming in at 55-45, short of the 60 votes needed to break the filibuster. This puts the government on a fast track toward its first shutdown in nearly seven years, all because Democrats decided now was the time to dig in their heels. The Republican bill was straightforward, a clean funding extension that should have sailed through without drama. But Democrats refused to play ball unless Republicans agreed to negotiate on extending Obamacare subsidies and other Democratic priorities.

One question remains; if these people are intent upon shooting themselves in the foot, will they shoot through their shoes, or will they take them off? Is shutting down the government the only hissy fit grown people in the US Congress can use without total embarrassment to themselves or their districts?

They made a ton of promises that relied on money they do not have. Now they cannot keep those promises. Lots of canceled sweetheart deals. Lots of angry voters relying on free stuff from the government. It's going to get ugly.

The Dems overplayed this hand, and Schumer knows it. He has lost control to the left wing nut jobs in his party. Trump will now start massive layoffs of unneeded government workers.

Well, they did it. Even after President Donald Trump telegraphed that they were walking into a trap by shutting the government down, Democrats slammed the red button anyway. How's the messaging on that going? Let's just say it's not going very well. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) kicked off a "Stop the Republican Shutdown" live stream overnight, and it may be the least-watched political event in modern history. As morning approached, the live stream was creatively renamed "Stop the Republican Shutdown Pt. 2," with various Democrats rotating through to shake their fists at the sky. When "transgender" Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) took the

Former President Joe Biden frequently relied on palm cards as "cheat sheets" during press events throughout his presidency, often cited as evidence of cognitive decline. In a Tuesday report, Fox News revealed that Biden used these aids even for long-time allies like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, whom he has known for decades. Reporting from Fox News Digital on Tuesday revealed that note cards from the Biden era show that the former president’s staffers compiled the names and photos of several high-profile Democrats, including Clinton, and then-Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, among others, for him to reference in his remarks.

Congressional Republicans and Democrats have failed to reach an agreement to avert a government shutdown before a midnight deadline, resulting in the first government funding lapse of President Trump’s second term. A shutdown seemed increasingly likely as the deadline approached, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) leaving a closed-door meeting between Trump and top congressional leaders on Monday afternoon saying “significant and meaningful differences” remained. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) argued that the Republican bill to fund the government “has not one iota of Democratic input.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gathered hundreds of the nation’s top military leaders in Quantico, Virginia Tuesday morning to lay out his vision for restoring the military’s “warrior ethos” by rolling back the left-wing indoctrination that’s taken hold at the Pentagon in recent years. Warning the assembled generals to “do the honorable thing and resign” if they rejected his message, Hegseth called out the leaders for allowing physical fitness standards to slide while diverting valuable time and resources towards politically fashionable causes related to race, gender, and the environment.

As we've talked about before, the August murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte's light rail system, allegedly at the hands of a violent repeat offender, has created a ripple effect at all levels of government amid President Trump's national crackdown on crime. Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate, for instance, have introduced legislation dealing with, among other things, strengthening transit crime reporting and oversight. And on Monday, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Oversight held a field hearing at a Charlotte courthouse to talk about victims of crime, to hear stories from their families, and to advocate

United States President Donald Trump has proposed a 20-point peace plan to end the war in Gaza after holding talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who welcomed the proposal. The new proposal, which calls for the disarmament of Hamas, has been welcomed by the Palestinian Authority (PA), which governs in the occupied West Bank, along with some regional Arab countries. Hamas says that it is studying the US proposal “in good faith”, while the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) group says that the plan is a “recipe to blow up the region”. Below are the reactions from regional and Western countries.

President Donald Trump on Monday fast-tracked his administration's efforts to secure peace in Gaza, rolling out a detailed vision for a U.S.-backed ceasefire that the White House says will bring the war to an immediate end. He said Israel has accepted the proposal but the success of the plan still hinges on the cooperation of Hamas. "We're at a minimum, very, very close," Trump said during a news conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. Speaking alongside the president, Netanyahu appeared to sign off on the proposal. "I believe that today we're taking a critical step towards both ending the war in Gaza and setting the stage

The Republic of Ireland will offer families of supposed asylum seekers up to €10,000 to drop their claims and voluntarily leave the country, in an apparent admission that the government’s open borders policies have gone too far. Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan has signed an order to increase the voluntary return grant for alleged asylum seekers, increasing the payout to €2,500 ($2,900) for individuals or €10,000 ($11,700) for families who willingly drop their asylum claims and leave the country, The Irish Times reports. This is nearly double the previous payouts, which stood at €1,500 ($1,800) per person or €6,000 ($7,000) per family, prior to the order from Minister O’Callaghan.

To win upcoming elections, my fellow Democrats must go beyond criticizing President Trump’s awful actions and policies. They must advocate for programs that most people believe will improve their lives by making America more affordable.Democratic candidates are doing this now as they campaign in the only two races for governor this year, in Virginia and New Jersey. President Trump said Tuesday that Harvard University has reached a tentative deal with his administration to restore $2.4 billion in frozen federal grants. America’s oldest college will spend about $500 million to launch and operate trade schools, ending a clash over issues including discrimination against Jewish students and the use of race-based affirmative action, Trump said. “This would be a giant trade school, or series of trade schools. It would be run by Harvard,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office.

The federal government partially shut down at midnight Wednesday, hours after all but three Senate Democrats voted down a short-term funding bill. The shutdown is the first since December 2018, which saw non-essential government operations cease and tens of thousands of federal employees furloughed or forced to work without pay for 35 days until lawmakers agreed on a stopgap funding measure. White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought notified federal department and agency heads shortly after Tuesday’s failed Senate vote to keep the government funded to begin preparations for a shutdown. But it has prompted an angry appeal by a U.S. lawmaker to Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker to scrap the plan.
