Government Shuts Down as Lawmakers Fail
to Reach Deal on Funding Bill

Congressional Republicans and Democrats have failed to reach an agreement to avert a government shutdown before a midnight deadline, resulting in the first government funding lapse of President Trump’s second term. A shutdown seemed increasingly likely as the deadline approached, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) leaving a closed-door meeting between Trump and top congressional leaders on Monday afternoon saying “significant and meaningful differences” remained. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) argued that the Republican bill to fund the government “has not one iota of Democratic input.”

Under Schumer...how many bills and budgets..as well as massive unbudgeted spending bills were passed with ZERO Repub vote? There were numerous $Trillion dollar+ spending packages with only Dems voting for them, in fact the stuff he is trying to call "Obamacare" was something new, and temporary, it was passed in Aug 2022 under Biden as a "COVID Emergancy" item, it was crammed through 220-207 with no Repubs support....and THE DEMS themselves are the ones who set the expiration date that has now arrived.

Schumer and his band of merry idiots have shot themselves in in their collective feet again. The American people know full well they were trying to extort MORE money for illegals, giving them free heathcare at the expense of our citizens. The Dems show us every day who they care about and it is NOT the American people. Except for the three Dems I heard who voted with the Reps, the rest should be thrown out of office for dereliction of duty to the AMERICAN people, instead of the lawless criminal illegals who they continue to show their allegience to. This shutdown apparently gives Trump the power to fire all those he couldn't do otherwise, so go ahaed and do it, fire all unneccesary workers and save the American people some more money that we are drained of, money for nuthin! Shout it loud and often that it is the Dems who are responsible because they care more about their illegal votes and rather cater to the wrong side of right every time no matter what.

Both Schumer and Jeffries are loath to paying the political price of the shutdown. The longer it lasts the more painful PDT is going to make it for them. They know it. But this is Soros and Silicon Valley billionaire's money talking. How many employees lose their jobs or how many GI families suffer is no skin off their nose.

Schumer and Jeffries look like complete idiots but that was true before the shutdown. You two are called "Minority" for a reason, you lose the last election by a lot. Significant and meaningful differences are your main problem as democrats and always will be.

All the social security and welfare checks keep coming. Shutting down the non-essential government jobs makes most of our lives better. I hope Trump and DOGE can permanently weed out some non-essential departments.

Good. Shut it down. Fire the non-essential employees. Let Schumer get pilloried by the left wing nut jobs in his party. I don't see a downside.

Schumer and Jeffries act all indignant over the budget issues. They have had since last year to come with a new budget. Every budget cycle Congress acts like September 30 is a big surprise. It is the same day every year so there is no excuse for the annual budget drama and circus.

A New York Times poll shows that public support for enforcing migration laws is solid, despite bitter resistance from progressives and the establishment media. Fifty-two percent of 1,313 registered voters support President Donald Trump’s policy of “deporting immigrants living in the United States illegally back to their home countries,” according to the September 22-27 poll. The support is unchanged from April 2025. The policy is strongly opposed by just 24 percent, down by two percent from April. Self-described independents split: 53 percent support versus 25 percent “strongly oppose.” Ninety-five percent of Trump’s 2024 voters back his policy.

President Donald Trump's administration has asked US colleges to sign a deal on certain terms to get preferential access to federal funds, the Wall Street Journal reported late on Wednesday, citing a 10-point memo. An initial round of nine schools was asked to sign the wide-ranging accord, The memo demands that schools ban the use of race or sex in hiring and admissions, freeze tuition for five years, cap international undergrad enrollment at 15%, require that applicants take the SAT or a similar test, and quell grade inflation, the report added.the newspaper reported.

To hear the Democrats tell it, the policies of the Trump administration have been a catastrophic failure and Americans are in a state of near-revolt. But the truth is more or less the opposite. Today Rasmussen published charts comparing approval of President Joe Biden with that of President Trump. These are monthly averages, so daily ups and downs are smoothed out: President Trump is markedly more popular than Joe Biden was, and his approval has held essentially steady since his inauguration. You may say that Biden represents a low bar, and of course that is true. But up to the bitter end, Democrats at least claimed

Democrats thought they had a winning strategy when they voted to shut down the government. They assumed they could pin it on Republicans, rally their base, and walk away with political momentum. Instead, what they’ve created looks like a textbook self-own, handing the GOP a golden opportunity while leaving themselves with little to show for all the drama. Democrats initiated the shutdown, blocked a clean continuing resolution in the Senate, and now they’re left holding the bag for a political stunt that backfired in ways they never imagined. In fact, even MSNBC is reporting that some Democrats are already wanting to cave.

How's the messaging on that going? Let's just say it's not going very well. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) kicked off a "Stop the Republican Shutdown" live stream overnight, and it may be the least-watched political event in modern history. As morning approached, the live stream was creatively renamed "Stop the Republican Shutdown Pt. 2," with various Democrats rotating through to shake their fists at the sky. When "transgender" Rep. Former President Joe Biden frequently relied on palm cards as "cheat sheets" during press events throughout his presidency, often cited as evidence of cognitive decline. In a Tuesday report, Fox News revealed that Biden used these aids even for long-time allies like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, whom he has known for decades. Reporting from Fox News Digital on Tuesday revealed that note cards from the Biden era show that the former president’s staffers compiled the names and photos of several high-profile Democrats, including Clinton, and then-Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, among others, for him to reference in his remarks.

Senate Democrats have blocked a Republican bill that would have extended federal funding for seven weeks, with the final tally coming in at 55-45, short of the 60 votes needed to break the filibuster. This puts the government on a fast track toward its first shutdown in nearly seven years, all because Democrats decided now was the time to dig in their heels. The Republican bill was straightforward, a clean funding extension that should have sailed through without drama. But Democrats refused to play ball unless Republicans agreed to negotiate on extending Obamacare subsidies and other Democratic priorities.

The fraud, uncovered in a September sweep, came in all kinds — sham marriages, fake death certificates and “other bizarre schemes,” as US Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Joseph Edley put it. But the revelation was no great surprise to those of us who have followed the settlement of some 100,000 Somali immigrants in Minnesota over the past three decades. As far back as 2008, the State Department temporarily suspended one of the family reunification programs used by Somali immigrants when DNA testing of applicants
