Having grown up Catholic, and having attended Catholic mass quite recently, I feel particular sadness over the following story.
In fact, it reminded me of why I once turned to one of history’s greatest Anglicans, the legendary Christian author C.S. Lewis, for help with understanding what lies at the core of Christianity, as well as why Christians of different denominations feel so strongly about their differences.
In a video posted to YouTube on Tuesday, a reporter from the Catholic television network EWTN asked Pope Leo XIV to help people of faith understand a decision by Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, to honor pro-abortion Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois,

Time for the Vatican to welcome illegals - male, female, LBDGTQ etc. and provide free abortions which they will pay for from their vast treasury. The next Pope should be a Transgender male.

Well ok, but only if the Vatican funds it all. Illegals are expensive and real Christians want nothing to do with abortion.

OMG! Really? Diquec Durbin? Been reading stuff on other places re Pope Leo. This is probably the worst yet. I have to read Catholic news before I question this.
1. Pope Leo "said" that we Catholics did not go to confession with a priest. God is the only one who can forgive... do not have the scripture handy to rebuff.
2. We Catholics no longer have to go to Mass on Sunday.
If he really said these words he is violation of Jesus' words and scripture.
I read a lot of junk on youtube regarding these alleged utterances. Stopped reading youtube. Who is claiming these falsehoods? Claims of all these utterances include the press. I have yet to read Leo actually said or did these things.

I wonder if 1000's of illegal immigrants stormed the Vatican expecting free handouts, where they rob, rape, and murder citizens in the Vatican, if it would be inhuman to remove them?

This is a horribly out of context assumption. He did not comment one way or the other whether Durbin should or should not get this award. He simply pointed out that those who say they are pro life must really look at themselves and take a look at how pro life they really are. There is a profound difference between what he said and what he meant versus what you say in your headlines. I cannot read the article because I refuse to subscribe to a publication that biases the truth according to that publication's agenda. I am a conservative and a Catholic one at that and what you said is absolutely out of context and not what he said.

Being pro life apparently has flexibility with this church. Nothing new- see Pius during WW2 and the Church's complicity in the Holocaust and escape of Nazis from Germany using the so called rat lines. This guy has exactly ZERO moral authority except that given to him by fools all over.

The Pope is confused over, or deliberately misconstruing, terminology.
Pro-life has nothing to do with immigration nor the death penalty.
The Pro-life movement has always meant anti-abortion

I may be wrong, but I believe that I was taught that there is God’s law and there is Cesar’s law and that the Pope was to be considered to be infallible when he interprets God’s law as taught by the Catholic Church, but not Cesar’s law that should be left to be promulgated and interpreted by worldly officials within their jurisdictions.

The Vatican elected another one, just like the other one. If you pay close attention to the teachings of Jesus you will soon come to the conclusion that the churches claiming to represent Him are self-serving entities, much like our representatives in Congress claim to serve us. I grew up Catholic and learned all I could about it, just to abandon it when I finally figured out why they exist. Jesus walked around in sandaled feet and a worn out old robe whereas the church hierarchy of today dress in fine, expensive clothing and adorn themselves in gold, purchased with the contributions of people who live much harder lives than they do.

I knew this was coming. Fortunately Pope Leo doesn’t seem to speak that often so he can be easily ignored unlike Pope Francis who seemed to make controversial statements daily. Repackaging or rebranding “pro-life” into pro-illegal immigration is typically liberal. Just like pro-choice is a rebranding of pro-abortion. Change the focus of an issue by recasting it with an unrelated issue is a standard liberal operating procedure of the left. Immigration law has nothing to do with abortion. I don’t think this one is going to stick. Pope Leo has made himself look very foolish even to illegal immigration supporters.

What a fool. Illegal aliens are criminals and do NOT belong in the U.S. Their health care should be given in the Nation they are citizens of, NOT here. THAT is one of the main points of deportation. These people are FREE to return home. We are not depriving them of health care, they have done that to themselves.
Do people who rob banks and get caught then get to keep PART of the money they stole ?

The Pope asked questions, he did not take sides. A Pope that does not take sides. What does he stand for?
He starts of by saying how can someone be pro-life but support the death penalty. Then he takes it even further by saying how can one call themselves pro-life but be against illegal immigration. I would ask how can someone that supports illegal immigration claim to be pro-life considering how many die trying to sneak into our country.
The Pope better figure out what exactly he stands for, and it better be in accord with the Christian faith. People will smell a fake ten miles away.

Thank you all for your great replies, especially #35. Those who post on Lucianne look to be smarter than Pope Leo. At our house, we were hopeful that this pope would be more biblical than the last pope. This man stands opposed to scripture. Culture, borders, language is biblical and anyone that is opposed to them is anti-American.
