Pope Leo XIV on Sunday called for an end to the “pandemic of arms, large and small,” as he prayed publicly for the victims of a shooting during a Catholic school Mass in the United States.
History’s first U.S. pope spoke in English as he denounced the attack and the “logic of weapons” fueling wars around the world, during his Sunday noon blessing from his studio overlooking St. Peter’s Square.
“Our prayers for the victims of the tragic shooting during a school Mass in the American state of Minnesota,” said the Chicago-born Leo. “We hold in our prayers the countless children killed and injured every day around the world.

Three Scottish brothers set a world record Saturday for completing the fastest unsupported row across the full Pacific Ocean.
Jamie, Ewan and Lachlan Maclean completed the journey in 139 days, arriving in Cairns, Australia. They rowed over 9,000 miles non-stop from Peru, becoming the first team to achieve the full crossing from South America to Australia.
The trio from Edinburgh endured storms, seasickness, injuries and violent storms, including one that swept Lachlan overboard, while raising over £700,000 ($945,690) toward a £1 million ($1,350,450) target for clean water projects.
The three rowed into the Cairns Marlin Marina playing the bagpipes and waving the Scottish, Australian and United Kingdom flags.

The black community’s disengagement from ordinary acts of civic responsibility is harming America as a whole, but mostly, it’s harming blacks. To save their communities, blacks need to reengage with what was once normative polite conduct across American society. To appreciate this point, consider the tales told by abandoned shopping carts and litter. [snip] Here’s the thing: Shopping carts and litter are just the most benign signs of conscientiousness and citizenship. The lack of such betrays itself in far more malignant ways as well, and we’re seeing that across the country, particularly in videos: Spirit Airlines airport counters. Six Flags parks. Carnival Cruise Line ships.

In the filing, Lowell and the rest of Cook’s legal team claimed her sacking “would subvert the Federal Reserve Act (‘FRA’), which explicitly requires a showing of ’cause’ for a Governor’s removal, which an unsubstantiated allegation about private mortgage applications submitted by Governor Cook

Snarky repeats of the same timeline by California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) troll account weren’t enough to buck the blame over a fatal Florida crash.
Tragedy in the Sunshine State left three people dead and an illegal alien facing vehicular homicide charges following an attempted unlawful U-turn on the Florida Turnpike. As the once-Golden State was faulted for issuing the commercial driver’s license, attempts by the Governor Newsom Press Office account to steer clear of accountability were met with fact checks from the Department of Homeland Security.
A particularly scathing rebuke was delivered by DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin

Sunday on MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee said President Donald Trump is attempting to “dismantle our democracy” with his federal takeover of Washington, D.C.
Lee said, “Let me just tell you that this president is fear mongering. He wants to militarize our cities to occupy them with outside federal force and that is very dangerous. This is part of his effort to dismantle our democracy. With regard to Oakland, you know we have our strategy also similar to Mayor Scott’s on focused deterrence, our crime rates going down.”
She added, “We have a significant reduction in crime. We’re going to keep at it.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that the war between Russia and Ukraine would never have begun if President Donald Trump were president in 2022 instead of then-President Joe Biden.
