The black community’s disengagement from ordinary acts of civic responsibility is harming America as a whole, but mostly, it’s harming blacks. To save their communities, blacks need to reengage with what was once normative polite conduct across American society. To appreciate this point, consider the tales told by abandoned shopping carts and litter. [snip] Here’s the thing: Shopping carts and litter are just the most benign signs of conscientiousness and citizenship. The lack of such betrays itself in far more malignant ways as well, and we’re seeing that across the country, particularly in videos: Spirit Airlines airport counters. Six Flags parks. Carnival Cruise Line ships.

I would be alot more tolerant of the "homeless" (vagrants) if they would just pick up their damn garbage.

While, as the article notes, this problem started in Black communities in America, it is rapidly spreading to other groups as well.

If blacks want respect, they need to police the behavior of their own. Particularly, black leadership needs to call out the bad behavior of their own.

In other words blacks can decide to assimilate and benefit themselves and our country or stay in their homemade jungle ghettos

Step number one - end welfare to women for multiple illegitimate children and get black fathers back into the homes with their women and children. Force them to take responsibility for their behavior.

Legal immigrants to the US from the West Indies and sub-Saharan Africa have (for the most part) assimilated well and prosper here. The common traits among them are a strong work ethic and a traditional family. These recent immigrants are also appalled by American black urban (ghetto/'hood) sub-culture and want nothing to do with them. So this is a cultural problem, not a genetic one. The impact of the welfare state has also enabled a victimization and entitlement mentality and the dissolution of the American black family. No fathers, no work ethic, no shame, and no concern--if not contempt--for the commons.

Poster #6, When a woman goes on welfare, if she has a child or children, she gets a set amount of money. Why should she get more money if she has more children? My husband didn't get a raise every time we had another child. If she knows she's not getting anymore money, maybe she'll start using birth control or live with the consequences of having less money to spend.
I sure hope Mr Coyners has thick skin for the attacks he's going to be getting for writing the truth about the Black community.

In our area the shopping carts are almost always from the homeless (Ooops! UnHoused). About half of the carts are tipped over and lying in weeds or a mud puddle. Looks disgusting.

Unfortunately the anti-social and violent criminal behavior that has been taking place in so-called Black communities is multi-generational in nature, so there are really few in those communities who know or really care, besides educated religious leaders, about those aspects of Black “ghetto” life that are considered to be completely low life and wrong throughout the greater USA. Those Black communities almost always elect leftist, progressive, or socialist Democrat politicians to represent them at the local, state, and federal levels who tell their Black constituents that any outside criticism of their Black community lifestyles is associated with “White Man’s” European origin customs, law, and traditions that are in essence is simply racism when applied to Black people. Many of the violent criminal incidents, outside of intentional criminal activities, that Black people are involved in are immediate extreme overreactions to occurrences that should have remained minor and ended with apologies and understanding, but end up as major physical altercations, with many times deadly weapons being used to kill or seriously injure people, that result in the Black perpetrator being charged and convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, or some degree of murder thus ending up with the Black perpetrator serving many years of incarceration, during which they associate with other like minded Black people who have perpetrated violent criminal activities. What all that boils down to is that big Black communities in the inner cities should be considered to be very violent places, so if you don’t have to be there, the watch word should be stay away!

So back in the pre Civil rights days here in America, black Americans struggled (and many were murdered) to earn the same respect as their fellow white citizens when it came to voting, where they could live, education, etc. But once the laws were changed or came into being that gave then equal access, for some reason(s) the inner ghetto in too many blacks reared its ugly head. They wanted respect and now they have now from us. I really have no sympathy for people who engage in such behaviors like picking up after yourselves.

But, but, Racism? You can't expect people who were so recently victims of slavery to suddenly become a part of polite society. Let them have their grief time.

#1, perhaps one reason why homeless people don't pick up their garbage is because they have no where to dispose of it. I'm not trying to excuse bad behavior, but the issue is much, much deeper than trashy neighborhoods.

Picking up after yourself is racist. You’re asking blacks to be like whitey. Don’t ask them to be on time—show up when you feel like it. Don’t clean up after yourself. Only whites do that. Go around wit dreadlocks and look like a gangsta. If we point out that they look like slobs, we are called racist and if we don’t hire them, we are discriminating against them. You’ve heard of the Kensington section of Philadelphia. My aunt and uncle lived there for many years, before they bought a single family home in Bucks, when it was a white neighborhood. It was a nice clean area with an Acme supermarket, small restaurants, and shops. I looked up their address on Google Maps and was dismayed at what their street looked like. That’s just part of a Blue city that has been under Democrat control forever! Philly even had one district that voted 100% for Obongo, if you can believe that. I’ll end it here because all of us have the same thoughts. There’s no need to bring them up.

Not long ago, I was following behind a car with adults and 'teens'. Bags of fast-food waste went out the back window. Probably the legacy of slavery.

Nonsense! It’s the Amish. Blacks are simply protesting 400 years 1619) of oppression and exploitation. It’s your innate racism that makes you see it as a crime.

There were some interesting comments re black employment of young people after the article. People try to help them but they don't want it. According to these comments, many are incapable of ever being employed, whether education, drugs ruining their minds or their culture or lack of it.

Thomas Sowell wrote that before the 'Great Society', the black folks were becoming more prosperous, and were gaining on the white folks in prosperity. Lyin' Lyndon Johnson and the Democ'RATS passed the 'Great Society' welfare laws that paid cash money to single mothers, but not if there was a man living in the house. My understanding is that this resulting in the breakup of black families on in Industrial scale. Today the same laws are still in effect, and the broken families are, as Sowell noted, the single strongest indicator of

(Fat Fingers!) ..... indicator of poverty.
We can thank Lyin' Lyndon for the Welfare State, for the collapse of the inner cities, for the Vietnam fiasco that destroyed respect for the military for a generation or more, and for the creation of the draft-dodgers infecting the University systems, which the Communists then took advantage of, the effects of which we are battling today.

Liberal policies have convinced many in the black community that they are victims, and as such, they can do as they please without criticism. Too many of them have bought into this nonsense.
