Awesome. It's about time. I have been passed over in favor of H1-B's numerous times, and was laid off once so an H1-B could take my place.

During my many years of tech management I hired a single h1b. I knew him from a previous job site. He was the best on my team, otherwise it was US only. But during the process to bring him over as an h1b, I saw all this ridiculous nonsense like the newspaper postings. Also, the lawyer had me write up the job description in such a way that he was the only person on the planet who fit every requirement. It would have been literally impossible for anyone else to be qualified for that job. I eventually helped him get a green card to free him from slavery after I left and later he became a citizen but he was definitely the exception not the rule to quality h1b hires. The other h1b people I worked with over the years from other teams were some of the biggest time wasting morons in the industry. But they were cheap and worked crazy hours. If they reduced the number of h1b per company to no more than 1 per 1000 employees (total, not per year), then they'd truly be hiring some of the best people in the world. The rest can stay home. 50k/year is wildly insane. There are endless numbers of Americans who would do those jobs, just not for near minimum wage.

The h-1b program was one of the reasons I quit the IT sector almost 25 years ago. The wages were going down, the quality of work was awful, and I was asked to train unqualified imports. My biggest complaint back then was that the companies could re-train their existing programmers with the newer programs and have the loyalty of people staying. Instead they created an environment where programmers (especially young ones) would jump ship at the first sign of trouble or offer of more $$. There is no loyalty to companies any more.

When you realize your employer does not care about their products, and by extension, their employees and customers, you realize the company is run by looters. I left long ago. I didn't want to be part of that environment. I would not be surprised if my former employer imported workers. I know they outsourced work. I suspect a number of premiere corporations have peaked and are now on the downside. Others will replace them. It's hard to stay on top. It's impossible if the company is run by looters. I recall a saying, "First came the innovators, then came the imitators, and then came the idiots." That's where we are at. The leadership that built some of our greatest companies have passed away over time. The leadership that has run these companies have declined over time. They are not run by leaders. They are poseurs. Look at Trump, and one can see the difference in leadership. These people have made their corporations pale images of what they once were. It shows. Btw, these same people hate a leader like Trump. Trump fills them with jealousy, envy, and hatred. It all reminds me of Ayn Rand's 'Atlas Shrugged'. Who is Jon Galt indeed.

While we're having a national season of mourning for the people killed by the illegal Indian truck driver who could read or speak English (but somehow got a CDL license from CA), let's not forget that some of Boeing's recent woes that led to the deaths of hundreds of people in plane crashes was traced to firmware written by sweat-shop coders who had recently arrived from India, too. In this case, the story goes, Boeing vended out the firmware to a Seattle startup company that hired such people. No aircraft manufacturing company should allow such inexperienced people to write such mission-critical real-time firmware, and I sure hope that particular coding shop has its doors shut permanently.

Someday soon, the fiber optic cables into India are going to be severed. It is going to happen. If your company is completely dependent of offshore workers, you are going to have to shut down until new cables are laid.

What's to stop organizations from hiring a company to provide IT services and then that company hires people living offshore to do the work? No visas required. ATT was dong that when my daughter worked there. She was on a project with a team in a small town in India and whenever they had a hard rain the team went off-line. That was really productive.

A common trope trotted out in defense of the modern GOP is that, for all its shortcomings, electing Republicans to positions of power is better than electing Democrats. If that argument is true, then why are the institutions in so many so-called “red states” just as left-wing as their blue state counterparts? A new report authored by the State Leadership Initiative (SLI) and obtained by The Federalist reveals how many Republican-run states “remain deeply entangled in the same bureaucratic bloat, cultural drift, and economic stagnation” that are features of those run by Democrats. While red and blue states often differ on major political issues (ex. gun rights and tax policy),

The comments by Moscow’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov undercut hopes that any progress has been made toward ending the Ukraine war since Russian President Vladimir Putin met with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday in Alaska. Lavrov’s remarks further indicate that the Kremlin has not softened on its maximalist positions on Ukraine: that it becomes a neutral rump state; drastically reduces its military; and abandons its NATO membership aspirations after Russia is finished with it.

It’s an Obama-appointed federal district judge, of course, and this is the case involving the alleged “environmental damage” being done to one of the world’s biggest swamps. From the Herald, Though her order does not prohibit the state from making repairs to the site, the most striking aspect of the order is her demand that the state begin removing all generators, gas, sewage, and other waste items that have transformed the airstrip into a detention center within 60 days, rendering the site uninhabitable. The state of Florida, of course, is appealing the decision.
