'Queen Reid': Embattled Virginia schools

Three years after leaving a sleepy Seattle suburb to run the school district in Fairfax County, Va., outside the nation’s capital, Michelle Reid earns more money than the U.S. president and gets a car allowance. Now she wants a taxpayer-funded personal bodyguard. [Snip] The new job would earn between $84,552 to $143,880,...far more than the starting salary of about $58,000 that a new teacher gets... [Snip] Last November, the all-Democratic school board voted unanimously to renew Reid’s four-year contract and increased her annual salary to $424,146 from $380,000,... In contrast, the U.S. president earns $400,000 annually.

Comments:

In addition to the salary increase, Ms. Reid was given a $12,000 annual car allowance.

As an FCPS parent, I will say that Reid isn't as outwardly repugnant as her predecessor, Scott Brabrand was, but she may well be slimier, operating behind the scenes like your typical DMV swamp critter. My son has one more year left in the post-high school vocational program he's enrolled in, then I am done with FCPS.

Most of the money spent/allocated for education goes to administration fat cats living high while failing school staff, teachers, and students. Superintendents, CAOs, and others use their positions in education as stepping stones to lucrative private sector jobs; the failures become consultants who steal ideas from employees, repackage them as their own, and make lots of loot. I always say you never hear a private sector business state how they want to run their businesses like the education bureaucracy or any government entity is run. Conversely, you never hear how education or any government entity attempts to run itself like a business. The difference matters. A lot of the jobs in education are make work for lazy people who do nothing to promote education with their degrees and doctorates. Education doctorates are some of the least respected, but they are allowed to make money inside and outside education. Imagine the foolishness of parents having to supply classroom materials for their children when excess amounts are spent on admin staff. And, don't get me started on the curriculum and technology rackets in education. The big money for education goes to leftists and leftist causes coming straight out of your state departments of education and school districts. They commit evil against the taxpayers and then want the taxpayers to pay for their security so they suffer no consequences for their evil. What a freaking world the left has given us! A darn shame. Red states need to put an end to this corruption. We can't just depend on PDT to do everything.

#21~ “Most of the money spent/allocated for education goes to administration fat cats living high while failing school staff, teachers, and students.” / In the early 1980s, the local school district in a Midwestern state was allocating 80 cents per taxpayer dollar to administration and 20 cents to students. Forty years later, it seems same old same old. Until the electorate exercises due diligence to effect change, nothing will change.

What amazes me about "public education" is how much nonsense the rank-and-file teachers (almost universally either NEA or AFT members) are willing to put up with from their so-called superiors. The classroom teachers are being paid peanuts while the do-nothing "administrators" get paid lavishly to do.... nothing. They don't even effectively advocate for the needs of the classroom teachers. No other heavily unionized profession in this country puts up with this crap. The Teamsters would probably arrange for very bad "coincidences" for someone like Reid rather than putting up with her.

Still flabbergasted over being defunded by Congress, board members of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) cried, lied, and quoted Shakespeare during their melodramatic July 24 board meeting. On August 1, the board announced it is starting an “orderly wind-down of its operations,” and most of the CPB staff positions “will conclude with the close of the fiscal year on September 30, 2025.” You would cry too, if you were losing a compensation package bigger than the salary of the president of the United States. The discovery of artifacts can change modern perspectives of ancient times. [Snip] The 14-foot-long Shroud of Turin is believed by many to be the actual burial cloth placed over Jesus after His crucifixion. An easily discernible image of the Son of God is seen on it--one that, despite today’s technological advances, still remains impossible to replicate. [Snip] While the image does not portray a supine Jesus, nor does it show Him standing or resting upon anything but, rather, “floating.” This begs the question why would He appear to be suspended in mid-air--unless it was the moment of the resurrection that was captured on the fabric.

It's such an optimistic, good time for a factory worker, and these are good jobs… we need more of these jobs in our country," he continued, tying the outcomes to President Donald Trump's tariff structure, which he sees as reversing the long-standing trend of foreign dumping and offshoring.

As expected, Texas Democratic legislators have fled the state to deny a quorum for Gov. Greg Abbott's redistricting push. The members flew to Illinois on Sunday, which qualifies as peak irony given that the blue state is arguably the most gerrymandered in the country. This plan was reportedly hatched with Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL), and the 30 odd Democrats will spend at least a week there. Given what we saw when they did this in 2021, denying a quorum for an election reform vote, there is no doubt a lot of grandstanding, dramatics, and cringe singing on the way.
