A courageous cyclist was stabbed to death by a crazed man at a San Francisco train stop after he stepped in to protect a mother and her kids who were being harassed. Colden Kimber, 28, was fatally jabbed in the neck with a six-inch blade on July 26 while waiting at a Muni stop in the Ingleside neighborhood with his girlfriend. The couple had gone on a date before making their way to the stop around 4.15pm, which was surrounded by children and families, when Sean Collins, 29, walked up. As they waited, Kimber decided to bravely get in between Collins and a woman with her children.

Sad outcome, but unarmed folks are always at risk from the armed, violent ones. RIP, brave sir, a valiant attempt. I've read of cyclists using a bike as a shield when attacked by a mountain lion. Might have worked if he had the bike. Cold steel has put literally tens of millions of men in their graves, so never underestimate the danger of a blade.

The perps should seriously consider moving to Cincinnati. The mayor, police chief, city council members, civic leaders, etc would be holding pressers demanding the victims be arrested, tried and imprisoned.

Knifers are very quick and give no warning. The boy who was knifed at the track meet in Texas could tell you about it - but his neck wound was also fatal. This perp got the hero from behind. You just can't shoot a person for yelling at a woman - and if he pulled a weapon after you pointed yours at him, guess who's defending himself against whom?

Very tragic and senseless. I don't know if there are more innocent bystanders being killed or not but there have been quite a few in the past week alone. The gunman in New York killed 4. A married couple in Arkansas were stabbed to death on a popular hiking trail, a crazy guy near Memphis killed 4 family members, and a guy in Montana walked into a bar and killed 4. I suspect a combination of psychological problems and meds are part of what's going on.

I have to admit that a knife attack scares me as much (or more) than a gun. Neither is desirable, but I'd rather be shot than knifed.

The guy had good intentions, he just wasn’t what he thought he was…that being, acutely aware. He obviously wasn’t prepared to react to real violence. Thankfully for the family, he used himself as a human shield. Life is not a movie, it’s not enough to posture yourself, if you put yourself ‘in play’, you need to have a plan. The man did act though and that’s more than too many these days. He died a hero.

Terribly sad. Getting involved in public squabbles is very dangerous. Police consider domestic situations to be among the riskiest to deal with. Concerning knives, there is no magazine limit, as with pistols. A demented stabber could use one knife to stab fifty people, or to stab one person fifty times. No limit to the potential injury. San Francisco long ago decided to accept crazy criminals in their midst instead of locking them up. As the old 'Eighties song went: "This is what you want; this is what you get. This what you want; this is what you get. This is what you want; this is what you get ...." Ad infinitum.

With a population of around 6,000, beautiful beaches, bars and restaurants it should be the perfect island get-away. But in recent years it has become a nightmare. And a petri dish for the problems that we are all going to go through in the 21st century. Especially America. The island’s history was always tricky. In the 1500s North African pirates raided the island, stole the whole population and took them off into slavery.

Last week, Texas House Republicans introduced a redistricting proposal that could net five new GOP seats. The draft congressional map, which is likely to change before approval by both state legislative chambers, aims to redraw district lines to include more Republican-leaning areas in Democratic strongholds like Dallas and Houston. Crockett, who serves Texas’ 30th Congressional District, which represents a large part of Dallas, has called the redistricting effort "a power grab to silence voters."

Recently, a large group of black youths began pummeling white adults in downtown Cincinnati. The original altercation apparently broke out between a black and white male in he-said/he-said fashion. But that dispute soon turned into a virtual free-for-all. Numerous male and female black youths sucker-punched a middle-aged woman. Others continued to kick or body slam the victims. There were many disturbing aspects to the beat-downs. One, the violence broke out along racial and age fault lines. After the initial dispute, groups of black youths swarmed solitary older white bystanders to pound them. Two, the surrounding assembled group of black youths not only failed to intervene to restrain the bullies.

As expected, Texas Democratic legislators have fled the state to deny a quorum for Gov. Greg Abbott's redistricting push. The members flew to Illinois on Sunday, which qualifies as peak irony given that the blue state is arguably the most gerrymandered in the country. This plan was reportedly hatched with Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL), and the 30 odd Democrats will spend at least a week there. Given what we saw when they did this in 2021, denying a quorum for an election reform vote, there is no doubt a lot of grandstanding, dramatics, and cringe singing on the way.

Abbott, in his statement, cites a 2021 Attorney General opinion (KP-0382) that could let him petition a court to declare their seats vacant. On top of that, he’s dangling the sword of felony charges, alleging their fundraising to cover $500-a-day fines might violate bribery laws. "Real Texans do not run from a fight," Abbott wrote.
