Labor Unions Kill Jobs

Progressives love unions. Not only do unions protect workers, they say, unions gave us the weekend and the middle class. I say, capitalism created the middle class. Employers, competing for better workers, gave us the weekend. But whatever you think about capitalism, few people question the claim that unions help workers. But I will. It's the focus of my new video. A couple years ago, the Teamsters demanded more pay from UPS. Seemed like UPS could easily afford it. The company made almost $13 billion in 2021. UPS used some of that money to hire more union workers. Then they offered them raises. But Teamster boss Sean O'Brien wanted more. He threatened a strike.

Excellent article, and dropping all pretense about unions and their thuggery. Exactly why the auto companies are bankrupt (look at their balance sheets), and why Trump is bailing them out with tariff protection. Unions enrich themselves at the expense of everybody else. Unions do not produce anything. Unions use intimidation to gain members, who would be better off keeping their money, rather than paying union dues, as union protection is non-existent when inevitable force reductions happen to reduce labor costs.

The union representing newspaper workers killed The New York Herald Tribune back in the sixties. It was the conservative voice in NY back then. The union leader couldn’t have cared less.

I dont know what percentage of my pre-retirement income was as a result of unions, but I do know they spend a great deal of time defending the jobs of the lazy and inept. The workloads of a few who are willing to do the job were much higher because of the idiots who were unable or unwilling to. Management gave up trying to do anything about it because they got tied up in grievances forever whenever they did.

Unions do one thing, besides bankrupting companies, they protect the malcontents. They protect the losers, the workers who hate the company but are to lazy or unqualified to find another job. Unions are a cancer to any company or organization that is stupid enough to deal with them. Another thing is when on strike the workers get no pay and go home to rice and beans while the union leaders get paid and go home to lobster and filet. Wake up.

In 1962 my first DH worked for a trucking company, was in the office which was non-union. He said people who worked on the dock were union and lazy as the day was long. If he needed to see if something was on the dock, went out there and moved a piece of freight. someone, not sure who, would get the rest of the day off. Also he said if something came through the dock and they wanted it, they would scratch it or otherwise mar it so it could be called 'broken' or something and they got it for nothing or a little of nothing.

Several frinds worked for Yellow Freight, headquartered here in KC. They are gone now, killed by the union. Typical destruction by the horrors of labor unions. And the cost of shipping by UPS is literally insane now. Drivers make $170,000 per year....to drive a delivery truck? Incredible.

Don't forget the Teacher's Unions! While they are not destroying manufacturing, they are destroying young minds so that they are more likely to accept the union mentality when going to work. Unions encourage minimal work and mediocracy. No extra effort ever!. Only do a narrow parameters of responsibilities. Nothing more or you are violating the union rules! Same goes for government employee unions. Lots of people doing the minimal work for the maximum pay and benefits. Every holiday (real and imagined) off.

They say states are the laboratories of democracy. If so, Florida and New York are running vastly different experiments -- and the results could not be more instructive. In the now current fiscal year, New York passed a $237 billion state budget, while Florida passed a budget less than half the size at $116.5 billion -- even though Florida now has millions more residents than New York (U.S. Census, 2024). This is not about population. It is about two distinct philosophies. A glimpse of where one of these philosophies leads emerged recently in New York City, where Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic mayoral nomination. Mamdani openly advocates for

It was a slow news week, and we are into the midsummer doldrums. Lots of people are on vacation, perhaps including some of those who normally feed me memes. The supply was down this week. Maybe the meme-makers are on vacation, too. There was a little flap over the “Epstein files.” I may write about it in due course, but in the meantime a number of Epstein memes made their way into this collection. Of course, a slow news week is a good thing. So let’s sit back and enjoy it. A shortage of memes is a small price to pay for peace and quiet. One thing, though:

The good news for Warner Bros./DC Studios is that its new Superman movie is quickly becoming a cultural touchstone, the standard by which all future superhero movies will be judged. The bad news is that it’s the low-end benchmark, representing the absolute worst that a superhero movie can be while not going straight to streaming. Director James Gunn is suddenly the Mario Mendoza of action filmmaking, and his Superman denotes the Mendoza Line, the trough of superhero futility. Or, as political commentator Ben Domenech put it, “This movie absolutely, totally sucks. The CGI sucks. The writing sucks. The cast, which is, for the most part,

On Sunday, Yemenis, commonly referred to as Houthis, attacked a ship called the Magic Seas, a Greek-owned vessel, in the Red Sea. The pirates attacked and captured the Magic Seas: It is thought the Yemen-based terror group initially attacked using a swarm of boats, small arms and rocket-propelled grenades. They then used kamikaze drones. Having seized control of the bulk carrier, the gunmen simultaneously detonated multiple charges around the ship’s hull, causing it to sink. The crew abandoned ship after being accosted by the pirates and, I believe, were rescued. The Yemenis released shocking, and highly sophisticated, drone-shot video of their attack. The Black Lives Matter hashtag and slogan was developed in 2013 in reaction to the (lawful self-defense) shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman. The following year, 2014, the organization was formalized by self-avowed “trained Marxists” after the (lawful) police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. Those two shootings falsely were portrayed as racially motivated, while the facts (which we covered in exhaustive detail at the time) proved otherwise. Nonetheless the narrative was set and hating America and being American was necessary to be accepted into Democrat spaces. Even Bernie was not spared the wrath of BLM activists.
