House passes Big Beautiful Bill Act, sending
it to Trump after bruising struggle

President Trump is finally getting his “big, beautiful” bill. The GOP-led House of Representatives passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in a 218-214 vote Thursday following 29 hours of arm-twisting and deliberation that included the longest floor speech and longest procedural vote in the body’s 236-year history. (snip) “With this bill, every major promise I made to the people of Iowa in 2024 became a promise kept,” Trump said. “We had a national decline. We were a laughing stock all over the world. We had a man as president who shouldn’t have been there,” he said.

Comments:

One would like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but had it not been for this self-imposed July 4th deadline, one wonders if it would've passed. One gets the feeling that some votes were not driven by principle, but rather by "the sooner my vacation starts, the better!" Already Dems are griping about Hakeem's insensitivity in not letting them know of his upcoming marathon speech, because now they were inconvenienced in changing flights and vacation plans.

So far; so good. But until the USA returns to passing a REAL budget every year---not a continuing resolution that postpones the inevitable---we are the fiscal equivalent of 'Dine And Dash'. And regarding the Oinkubus: I considered 'lock her up' a promise; but that was never kept.

First - What is in it? Many lies and distortions in the reporting. What is good? What is bad? Has anyone seen an analysis they trust? Now is the time to attack the spending. Making the tax cuts permanent was important. Maybe Trump can convince Elon to help him work to stop the ridiculous spending. Call out each senator by name and detail their wasteful spending. Raving about primarying everyone is annoying. Get specific. And continue to push eliminating the tax on social security. For everyone. I am tired of the "less lucky in life's lottery" argument for charging people who worked hard all their lives and succeeded more in taxes based on the "lucky" garbage.

3 Takeaways From The U.S. Bombing Of Iran’s

Saturday’s Operation Midnight Hammer, bombing Iran’s three most significant nuclear sites, proves that all the talk of America’s decline is merely wishful thinking from our adversaries. Just days before the bombing, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, proclaimed that the U.S. is on a path of “inevitable” decline, similar to other fallen empires throughout history. This same narrative — that “the East is rising while the West is declining” — has been propagated by Xi since 2020. Yet, the bombing of Iran demonstrates that America is far from declining. The United States stands unrivaled in its

Right-wing pundit Tucker Carlson suggested that the US should contemplate nuking Iran if allegations are true that the theocratic regime has been conspiring to assassinate President Trump, during a fiery two-hour debate with Sen. Ted Cruz. Carlson scoffed at Cruz (R-Texas) for confirming to him that Tehran has conspired to kill Trump and argued in disbelief that if those accusations are real, the US needs to respond with military force. “This just seems like a huge headline and you’re acting like everyone knows this. I didn’t know that,” responded Carlson after having needled the Texas
'TACO' is an awful political slogan, and

Democrats are trying to make “TACO” — or “Trump always chickens out”— a new political slogan to get under the president’s skin. But it is not as clever a quip as they think it is, and it creates a perverse incentive for Trump to push the red buttons they don’t want him to push. (snip) it is straightforwardly wrongheaded as a political slogan. Why on Earth would Democrats dare Trump to follow through on his most extreme tariff threats? If this slogan were to really work, (snip)it would nudge him and his allies to cling more tightly to the most extreme versions of Trump’s bad economic policies.

Marc Thiessen commented on the Trump administration's new strategy for dealing with sanctuary cities on this week's "FOX News Sunday" panel: (snip) Donald Trump has beaten the Democrats, powered by illegal immigration, and they still can’t seem to get it right. You have people literally burning cars, throwing rocks at ICE agents, and the Democrats are siding with the protesters over the administration trying to restore law and order. And what has the left riled up, and what’s causing all this, is that the Trump administration has figured out a way around sanctuary city laws.

Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer that is “characterized by a Gleason score of 9,” his office revealed in a statement Sunday. (Snip) “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the press release said. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone. While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.” “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” the statement added.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand  — For more than a decade, passengers at New Zealand ’s Wellington Airport have boarded flights below the figures of two giant, hovering eagles from the Hobbit films, one bearing a bellowing wizard Gandalf. With 50-foot (15-meter) wingspans and weighing 2,600 pounds (1.1 ton) each, the sculptures that hover in the terminal have delighted tourists and scared children since 2013. Their tenure was eventful — one became unmoored from its fixings during a severe earthquake in 2016, and plummeted onto the terminal floor below. No one was hurt. Donald Trump's decision to impose new tariffs on all goods entering the US is a "major blow to the world economy", European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has said. Her comments echo those of a number of other countries, including China, which has expressed its opposition to the move and has warned it will take "resolute countermeasures" against the US. Their words of warning come after the US president announced a universal 10% tariff on all imports into the US from 5 April. Around 60 countries will also be hit with steeper tariffs from 9 April.

James Finlayson failed to make it as a leading man in Hollywood but became one of the most memorable comic foils ever to grace the silver screen. The Scottish actor performed in more than 100 films but was best known for being the "third man" to Laurel and Hardy. With his distinctive fake moustache, he starred with the iconic duo in 33 of their films and later became the inspiration for Homer Simpson's "D'oh!" catchphrase. Now Finlayson has been memorialised with a new portrait in the Scottish theatre where he first trod the boards more than a century ago.

Just one day after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wrapped up his self-indulgent “magic minute” marathon, the truth is starting to surface: Even many Democrats weren’t impressed. His hours-long fauxibuster—meant to stall the inevitable passage of the GOP’s One Big, Beautiful Bill—ended up accomplishing absolutely nothing for the Democrats’ cause. It was performative grandstanding, plain and simple—a desperate attempt to look like he’s fighting while doing absolutely nothing to stop the bill. [Video] The bill passed 218-214

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of California has filed a class-action lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), demanding an immediate halt to what it describes as “unlawful immigration raids” across the Los Angeles area. The left-leaning nonprofit accuses the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of carrying out unconstitutional raids and targeting “migrants with brown skin.” The plaintiffs allege that DHS and ICE have carried out unconstitutional arrests in order to meet arrest quotas allegedly set out on June 6 by the Trump administration. One year from now, you will not be able to turn around without receiving notice of America’s semiquincentennial jubilee. The jollity of the occasion will not change the fact that it will be seven years premature. The historical significance assigned to July 4, 1776, the date the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Second Continental Congress, is befuddling. Without victory in the Revolutionary War, which began over a year earlier, any declarations regarding American independence made during the summer of 1776 would have the same significance today as the “declarations of independence” made by the 11 Confederate States in 1860-61.
