James Finlayson failed to make it as a leading man in Hollywood but became one of the most memorable comic foils ever to grace the silver screen. The Scottish actor performed in more than 100 films but was best known for being the "third man" to Laurel and Hardy. With his distinctive fake moustache, he starred with the iconic duo in 33 of their films and later became the inspiration for Homer Simpson's "D'oh!" catchphrase. Now Finlayson has been memorialised with a new portrait in the Scottish theatre where he first trod the boards more than a century ago.

Thanks for posting! It's a genuine pleasure to read a warm, delightful story in the midst of present-day turmoil. I watch BBC Scotland, 'Still Game' and 'Katie Morag' etc. Hopefully they'll make a documentary on one of their own lads.

You're kidding. I thought it was The Skipper from Gilligan's Island. Skipper: Gilligan's hand me that beam! Gilligan hits Skipper in the belly with the beam. Skipper: Doh!

I've always known this, big Jimmy Finlayson fan here. Not only did he stake his claim on "D'oh", it was usually followed up by his take on exasperation -- the Jimmy Finlayson stink eye, the stink eye to end all stink eyes.

Don't forget his double-takes as well. One of the best comedic foils ever.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand  — For more than a decade, passengers at New Zealand ’s Wellington Airport have boarded flights below the figures of two giant, hovering eagles from the Hobbit films, one bearing a bellowing wizard Gandalf. With 50-foot (15-meter) wingspans and weighing 2,600 pounds (1.1 ton) each, the sculptures that hover in the terminal have delighted tourists and scared children since 2013. Their tenure was eventful — one became unmoored from its fixings during a severe earthquake in 2016, and plummeted onto the terminal floor below. No one was hurt. But this month the majestic creatures,

Donald Trump's decision to impose new tariffs on all goods entering the US is a "major blow to the world economy", European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has said. Her comments echo those of a number of other countries, including China, which has expressed its opposition to the move and has warned it will take "resolute countermeasures" against the US. Their words of warning come after the US president announced a universal 10% tariff on all imports into the US from 5 April. Around 60 countries will also be hit with steeper tariffs from 9 April.

Frigid air that normally stays trapped in the Arctic has escaped, plunging deep into the United States for an extended visit that is expected to provoke teeth-chattering but not be record-shattering. It’s a cold air outbreak that some experts say is happening more frequently, and paradoxically, because of a warming world.(snip) “There’s a climate change signal in that,” Francis said. The Arctic is warming four times faster than the rest of the world, which means the difference between temperatures up north and down south are shrinking, Francis said. Arctic sea ice is shrinking,

He missed the boat on this one. Sen. First, my sympathies for the Biden family. I’ve been there. Now, here’s my puzzlement. Prostate cancer is notoriously slow-growing. Although prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among men (second to only lung cancer), that’s not because it’s so deadly, but because it’s so common. It’s a fact that more men die with prostate cancer than of it. Of those who die, the typical mechanism of death is by the cancer cells metastasizing to other organs and/or to the bones. It takes years for that to happen – typically something like 5-10 years even without treatment, and even longer with treatment.
