Right-wing pundit Tucker Carlson suggested that the US should contemplate nuking Iran if allegations are true that the theocratic regime has been conspiring to assassinate President Trump, during a fiery two-hour debate with Sen. Ted Cruz. Carlson scoffed at Cruz (R-Texas) for confirming to him that Tehran has conspired to kill Trump and argued in disbelief that if those accusations are real, the US needs to respond with military force. “This just seems like a huge headline and you’re acting like everyone knows this. I didn’t know that,” responded Carlson after having needled the Texas

Comments:

I don't know what's gotten into Tucker lately with his lashing out at fellow Republicans in nasty, bullying, self-righteous tones. I've lost a lot of respect for him in the past couple of weeks. Maybe not enough people are subscribing to his podcast and he's trying to keep himself in the news, I'm grateful that, although his name was bandied about, he was not chosen as Trump's VP. I guess you might say that I'm just a bit "tuckered out."

Carlson acted like a school-age kid attempting to one-up his opponent on inane side issues in a high-school debate, while missing the over-arching point. When Ronald Reagan called the Soviet Union "an Evil Empire" he didn't know how many millions of people it had or how many ethnicities it had. It mattered not a whit. All that mattered was that the Soviets, at the time of Reagan's 1980 election, had superior numbers of a variety of conventional arms and were feverishly working to attain superiority in nuclear weapons, with an expectation of forcing the west to back down in a future confrontation. Today's mullahs in Iran are no different in their expectations. And they are guided by a religious zealotry (not shared by most of their fellow Shia Muslims) that actually seeks the kind of confrontation that a doctrine of "Mutually Assured Destruction" normally dissuades. Carlson must know all of this and yet persists in painting the mullahs as Kumbaye singers. I suspect the man has either had a severe head injury or he's doing this for money...

A pure guess, Tucker's done with the harassment and threats that come with his public image. He's trying to take the heat off himself at our country's expense. HIs principles have always been known to be fluid and self-serving so this latest turn is not surprising. He doesn't need any money so just go away, Tucker, continue your quest for manhood off camera.

The OP is correct about the "nasty, bullying and self-righteous tones." That's a fair description , however, not only of some of Carlson's comments on this issue but a good many of the attacks on him as well, most definitely including the article under discussion. (Compare what Carlson is accurately reported to have said about Iran's possible assassination plotting in the article's first sentence with the funhouse mirror version in its title.)

No Nukes. Iran needs regime change, but it doesn't need to be nuked to get it. What is really needed is an internal change by the Iranian people. That is the only real solution.

'TACO' is an awful political slogan, and

Democrats are trying to make “TACO” — or “Trump always chickens out”— a new political slogan to get under the president’s skin. But it is not as clever a quip as they think it is, and it creates a perverse incentive for Trump to push the red buttons they don’t want him to push. (snip) it is straightforwardly wrongheaded as a political slogan. Why on Earth would Democrats dare Trump to follow through on his most extreme tariff threats? If this slogan were to really work, (snip)it would nudge him and his allies to cling more tightly to the most extreme versions of Trump’s bad economic policies.

Donald Trump's decision to impose new tariffs on all goods entering the US is a "major blow to the world economy", European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has said. Israel's remarkable early success in its campaign against Iran has clearly won over President Trump, who has now taken to using the term “we” when discussing the operation. This has increased the debate over whether — and to what extent — the U.S. should join the effort. In under a week, Israel has achieved complete air supremacy, allowing its pilots to hit targets in Iran without fear of harassment. Though the conflict has taken a toll (Iran’s indiscriminate ballistic missile attacks have killed dozens of Israelis and injured hundreds more), the Iranian counterstrikes have not destroyed any significant strategic targets.

Wowza. It's no surprise that Israel has destroyed Iran's Arak nuclear reactor. After all, it was a key element of Iran's program to build nuclear weaponry, and a very vulnerable target. The only strategic reason not to attack it was the fact that it could have contained highly radioactive material, and Israel had to balance the benefit of denying its use to Iran against the consequences of releasing dangerous and long-lived radioactive material if the supposedly inactive reactor held fissionable material.
