A new four-lane highway cutting through tens of thousands of acres of protected Amazon rainforest is being built for the COP30 climate summit in the Brazilian city of Belém. It aims to ease traffic to the city, which will host more than 50,000 people - including world leaders - at the conference in November. The state government touts the highway's "sustainable" credentials, but some locals and conservationists are outraged at the environmental impact. The Amazon plays a vital role in absorbing carbon for the world and providing biodiversity, and many say this deforestation contradicts the very purpose of a climate summit.

To paraphrase Nancy Pelosi’s famous statement:
“We have to destroy the rain forest in order to save it.”

Dear Lord, please help us stop all Green things and consign them to distant memory. Green is dead. It needs to go away. Just another name for communism. End it all.

#2 - Careful what you ask for. Sodom and Gomorra, anyone?
What a scam! A half million fools unable to see the irony in levelling virgin forest to protest destruction of the planet. Once - not that terribly long ago - these folks would be marching and blowing up such idiocy. But, I guess, there's MONEY to be made!!!

They fly en masse to their nesting grounds in Davos. They ride in their chauffeured limousines on the ground. They live in fabulous energy-hog mansions.
What’s a ‘lil ‘ole road cut straight through “the lungs of the Earth?” Don’t we know they’re the saviors of the world and its people? Even with population culls and abortions everywhere (Except in Islamland)?

Fifty thousand people attending a climate conference? You gotta be kidding me. Probably 10% will be prostitutes.

The funny thing about all this is that the environmentalists approved doing this, and they don't care if its known. I wonder if they're building a new airport as well to handle all the private jets of the wealthy who will attend.

Shouldn't these delusional, hypocritical commies now be called "forest gumps"?
Yeah - - that's what I'd call them.

Only liberals and idiots---but I repeat myself---believe that these phony plutocrats care about saving 'Mother Earth'. It's the 'Long Con' writ large. It goes like this: invent a crisis, terrify the peasants, convince them that only YOU can save them. Then bathe like Scrooge McDuck in the billions the fear heads your way.

The Looney Left asks: Which is more important- our overwhelming sense of self righteous entitlement or saving the planet?
Answer: our entitlement, because without us there would be nobody to save the planet!
It's obvious, we're self-evidently right!! Yay us! Now step aside and agree or go to jail! Guards! Off with the trees!

Fairly typical of the enviro-weenies, these days. Kill a forest to save it. Meanwhile, someone is making big bucks off the wood (I hope) and they have new infrastructure to a Brazilian city no one bothered to visit, before. They couldn't hold the summit in an accessible city, I suppose? And all the jets (and their carbon footprint) flying these concerned citizens in to decide they everyone else must reduce their dependence on hydrocarbons (but not they, the elite)
Bunch of wealthy hypocrites pretending they are angels, when all they want to do is enslave and butcher you so they have more hydrocarbons for their use.

An extraordinary accommodation that will likely never be maintained until it is permanently retired from disrepair in under a decade. Typical legacy of all these sorts of 'world expositions'.

The opening paragraph tells it all. "Climate" hypocrisy is stunning. Are they accidentally or deliberately ignorant? 50,000 attendees?

It is necessary to level the rain forest to "save it"......except that these scammers care exactly nothing about the rain forest, or global climate.....ONLY about money and power.

Their land. I don't like but I can understand it from their POV. Brazil is not a rich country, they don't want to be poor. Developing their resources will help lift them out of poverty. (hopefully) We did and so did every other first world country. In business terms, you want that forest to stand as is because the world needs it, how about an air tax. We understand water is not free (it's sold in the stores), and food isn't free, just as the western states.

The city of Belém is considered as a tourist attraction and vacation spot. I wouldn't go there because I hate anacondas. They have an airport. There's no way Big Shots like The Gorebot and Horseface will ride a bike down this road. They will arrive by their personal jet. Have no idea why the road was built other than someone has lots of Climate Change money.

the amazon rain forest serves as the lungs of the entire planet. yet, every rich hypocrite attacks it for any frivolous nonsensical notion.
there are plenty of ways to access belem.
''cutting through tens of thousands of acres of protected Amazon rainforest'' should not be one of them.
