Roughly 30,000 Los Angeles residents — including celebrities — have been ordered to evacuate their homes as a wildfire engulfs the ritzy Pacific Palisades and some have stepped up to help emergency responders clear roads blocked by abandoned vehicles Tuesday.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency after touching down in the area and meeting with first responders fighting the blaze that has torched more than 2,900 acres into Tuesday night, according to CalFire.
“By no stretch of the imagination are we out of the woods,” Newsom warned as winds up to 100 mph are expected to increase overnight across the tony enclave — including regions that are “abnormally dry,”

It's really bad news, but would not surprise me at all if origin turns out to be arson. (The culprits often wait until conditions are ripe.)
Lived through more than one wildfire and nearly lost one home! And I can see that many of these people, once again, have just WAITED TOO darn LONG to evacuate!! Can't do that...ever! Plot your evacuation route way ahead of time, post your fire list on the fridge, grab everything on it, and high-tail it out as soon as any fire gets anywhere NEAR your neighborhood! Not worth waiting and looky-louing around!!

Twp wetter than normal winters, so no fires then, but the undergrowth grows more dense in wetter years, so that in the next really dry year.....
Hope everyone gets out safely, and property damage is minimized but this is episode 291 in this epic tragedy.

It was awful. Evacuated now but with neighbors fought flames all day. Not one LAFD fireman came to help. We may have saved 6 homes, hopefully also my own. We are on our own in America. All the other homes across palisades drive were left to burn.

State Farm cancelled all fire and earthquake insurance last December in the entire Pacific Palisades. Someone is getting a bonus but I was left without insurance after 39 years of dutifully paying the State Farm giant corporation.

Haven't heard the latest update, but that second fire in Altadena has the potential to rapidly spread into Pasadena. During a normal year, SoCal would have had 2-3 months of rain by now but it's been sunny and warm for almost 9 months straight.

"Including celebrities" like they are something special. That Porsche isn't going to look so good after being pushed out of the way by a bulldozer blade.

I recon Californians are unable to cut brush and tall grass. If I were a rich Californian homeowner I'd have a big water tank, an engine driven pump, and a sprinkler system for my house.

It's very sad that the state government who the residents pay ridiculous amounts of taxes to, will not allow controlled burns of under brush. Seems like the residents would kick those people out of office but they don't. It happens every year and continues to get worse. Insurance companies can't be blamed for leaving when it's guaranteed they'll lose money.

City kid that I am I thought simply droughts caused forest fires. When I visited CA I learned rainwater and fire are both necessary elments in the CA temperate desert environment. The more it snows, rains there, the more brush grows and then more fires come and burn clearing the brush in balance. Residents there have to stay out of the way of cruel Mother Nature.

Re #6, perhaps State Farm noted that the fire department no longer does an adequate job that they had supposed was normal.

California had better start full bore mitigation of these fires...cutting brush, fire lanes, no new building construction in at-risk areas etc. or more insurance companies will pull out or restrict coverage to safer areas. They aren't in the business because it's fun. If they continue to lose their posteriors in certain places, they will pack up and leave.

If you are going to abandon your car, pull it off onto the side of the road.
Lesson learned.
