Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration is drawing up plans to help illegal migrants dodge deportation when President-elect Donald Trump takes office. An internal memo being circulated within Newsom’s administration calls for the “creation of an Immigrant Support Network comprised of regional ‘hubs’ to connect at-risk individuals, their families, and communities with community systems — such as legal services, schools, labor unions, local governments, etc,” according to Politico. The outlet notes that the memo is light on details, including the cost to taxpayers for such a programs,

In an emergency motion filed in the Southern District of Florida on Monday, the two argue that the report, if released, would violate court orders, infringe on their constitutional rights, and prejudice any potential future proceedings against them.

Nauta and De Oliveira claim that Smith, whose appointment as Special Counsel was ruled unconstitutional by the court, lacks the authority to issue a report under federal regulations.

The beef this time is the Kentucky congressman’s stubborn refusal to back Mike Johnson as House Speaker, but there have been plenty enough over the years to make the most libertarian-minded member of the House a household name, for better or worse depending on one’s political perspective. Massie, a former businessman and an MIT graduate, has served in Congress since 2013, but he didn’t really make his mark until President Donald Trump assumed office four years later. It’s one thing to be a ‘contrarian’ when Democrats are running the show and nearly everyone in your party is voting ‘no’ right along with you.

The former second lady was seated next to her husband, former Vice President Mike Pence, and remained seated as the Trumps arrived.
She made no effort to shake hands with Melania Trump, who she worked hand-in-hand with when their husbands were in office during Trump's first term. Mike Pence shook hands with Donald Trump after former Vice President Al Gore did the same. It was their first public interaction since 2021. The wildfires engulfing Los Angeles County is the second inferno Biden has dealt with. He led Maui burn to the ground and took his sweet time visiting the island, whose residents endured the worst wildfire seen in almost a century. The president was briefed on the raging wildfires that have so far killed at least two people, destroyed over 1,000 buildings, forced 70,000 from their homes, and charred close to 30,000 acres. “Do you owe citizens and apology for being absent while their homes were burning, and do you regret cutting the Fire Department budget by millions of dollars madame mayor?” Sky News reporter David Blevins asked as Bass waited to deplane.

Earlier today when I wrote about the wildfires I mentioned that there were reports the hydrants were simply running dry, leaving firefighters no way to battle the flames. Here's Rick Caruso, former candidate for LA mayor, describing the problem. FIle this next clip under "too good to check" but apparently this morning one local LA anchor tried to discount what Caruso was saying only to have a reporter contradict him a minute later. That knee-jerk urge to contradict whatever criticism Democrats are getting is one surefire way the media consistently sets its own credibility on fire.

Republicans in Congress are already getting to work on trying to implement Donald Trump’s agenda.
Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) this week put forward a joint resolution seeking to limit the number of terms members of Congress can serve.
Under the terms of the amendment, U.S. senators would be restricted to two six-year terms and representatives in the U.S. House to three two-year terms.
According to the resolution, the amendment would take effect within seven years of being approved by Congress and ratified by the states.
The Supreme Court on Thursday denied President-elect Donald Trump’s bid to delay his Friday morning sentencing in the New York hush money case.
The Supreme Court’s order clears the way for Manhattan judge Juan Merchan to impose the long-awaited sentence on the incoming president. Merchan said he would not give Trump jail time, fines, or probation during the virtual hearing. Scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday, the sentencing comes ten days before Trump’s inauguration.
