Republicans scored a significant victory after successfully passing a spending bill on Friday to avert a looming government shutdown with just 12 hours to spare. The new 118-page bill, which overcame partisan tensions, reflects a strategic win for GOP lawmakers after 38 Republicans voted against the Trump-backed bill on Thursday. After negotiating, lawmakers agreed to trim the funding bill to just under 600 pages after the initial draft was more than 1,300 pages and included unnecessary spending, such as a pay increase for Congress members.

If this is a "Huge Victory", I would hate to see what a defeat would look like.

118 pages? A continuing resolution only requires four sentences. No additional spending. No supplemental pork. Same level of spending. Keep the lights on. These guys in Congress just love to spend other peoples money. 118 pages is a start - now start with DOGE, bigly, please.

Has Sarah Arnold lost her friggin" mind? "Huge Win", C'mon? In "huge win" I guess its that the bill is much shorter, the spending is the same with very few exceptions, but one can actually read the damn thing and see how stupid the Party is.

Any system that treats salaries of defense personnel as voluntary and welfare and payments to illegals as mandatory is a non-starter.

There's a picture someone posted on Face Book showing the original CR bill. It's a stack of paper almost a foot tall. Next to it is the bill as it was passed. Less than an inch... maybe just half and inch.
Yeah. If ya gotta compromise... that's a win.

It’s a victory because Trump is not even President yet and the Republicans don’t have the Senate yet. That bill got trimmed by over 1400 pages. Now it is very clear what the new direction is going to be. Congress is going to have a big floodlight pointed at their spending habits and the people need to bring the pressure to bear. Have some patience and be realistic. Please.

It passed because Trump's name wasn't on it, and the Rino's in Congress viewed that as a win.

No victory here except for the RINOs.
They rejected Trump's suggestions and passed tons of Democrat pork.

The third bill is better than the first bill, but not as good as the second (Musk Trump) bill. The second bill was defeated by that small group of Republicans (?) that keep voting NO, forcing the rational Republicans to give Democrats more in order to get things done. You can thank the NO voting Republicans for getting second best
If they had supported the majority of Republicans on the second bill, instead of voting against it, the second bill would have passed. They keep sabotaging the majority every year with their bullheaded stupidity.

Trump got involved. Congress tightened it up. We won the battle. It’s just one battle. We need to be vigilant because the fight is not over. We have to go back at it in March. Let’s take the victory and move forward from this beginning place. Let’s keep it going.
On MSM we went from weeks of scary drones to two days that, front and center, dems were proclaiming Republican failure, and a budget crisis Armageddon by the Republican Congress not passing it. Then in the middle of their frenzy and panic stirring, we see Trump riding the crest of the wave and leading like no conservative has done since Reagan.
This is winning.

Going into MORE DEBT is NOT a win by any means.
It exposed the 38 conservatives to ridicule from TRUMP wanting to "primary them" for standing their ground and not accepting the much smaller page proposal until a less disasterous one was on the table. The pressure on members of Congress was all around them to play along with debt ceilings and such being pushed by a time limit that could have been avoided.
If the results of November's election was about anything, it was about NO MORE BUSINESS AS USUAL getting screwed over by PORK LADEN kitchen sink bills WITH LITTLE OR NO TIME to read or debate the measures included, and for THE PUBLIC to put pressure on their repreentative to "have a say" contacting their people in DC to weigh in.
We can all hope and pray that things will be different, but they won't be! The demonrat socialist Marxist are DIGGING IN harder than they ever have been and the so-called 'republicans' are like a disfunctional and antagonistic body all trying to 'get some o 'dat $$$$'
Its disgraceful and shameful that the 38 who stood in the breach to make this 'deal' come together rhetorically get tarred and feathered for doing the right thing. I have grave doubts that Speaker Johnson can survive after being corrupted by the "call of the RINOs" made even more weakened by those who would DARE call themselves Reagan republicans who still would believe in smaller government and much smaller spending.

A victory is a victory...not all WE wanted...but...it's a start....now WE need to primary all the republicans that voted against this....President Trump is happy for the leverage this will give him...did he get all he wanted ...no...put it's definitely a good start for the new year...and if the democrats want to gloat about their helping pass it...so be it...they didn't get the huge pork bill they wanted...so that's a win for US...let's think of it...that way...

For those here who think things will change once Trump is sworn in - good luck and say hello to the tooth fairy. There be'll some changes but Congress with very very few exceptions (Freedom Caucus) are hooked on giving our money away to whom they want. Just a week or so ago in my small town outside Northern Virginia, $250,000 was donated to the local Habitat for Humanity (another poverty pimp organization) and the money came from one of the Covid relief bills. Seriously. We still covid "relief" money floating around out there. And I expect that the new catch phrase to justify much of this wasteful spending will be "affordable housing." And of course, the next hurricane that strikes Florida or wherever, well, we just gotta give the victims billions of dollars to rebuild their homes, businesses, etc. because why have insurance?

Maybe the only progress is that it was now exposed that for Democrats/Maxists tax cuts count as spending. They will use the Debt Limit in March to stop no tax on Social Security, tips and overtime. Trump is the great educator.

Why is everybody afraid of a govt. shutdown? Newt Gingrich said recently that was used to get a balanced budget, something this Congress apparently knows nothing about. This new spending bill is just that, a spending bill. Spending like drunken sailors not thinking about tomorrow. We don't have the money to fund this; we are bankrupt and hugely in debt. Wake up Congress!

Mike Johnson, just became the biggest LOOZAH from LOOZIANNA, by placating a bunch of leftist causes. And to think.... all they had to do was write their first draft of the spending bill with lots fluffy wording (comes easy for lawyers!), then, by the third revision, they simply simplify sentences. Same pork, same obstacles to welcome the Trump administration. Democrats are laying mines in while in retreat, and swamp boy, Mike Johnson, is assists them every chance he gets. This Congress is criminal...

Maybe it was a "Huge Win" for Trump......
But it is yet another huge loss for most of us conservative peasants.unless we are farmers and / or are waiting on FEMA help in the North Carolina to Florida region.
