Biden wants to follow foolish California

The Labor Department just imposed 300 pages of new regulations to reclassify many individual contractors as payroll employees. CNBC claims this could help freelancers “recover lost wages.” That’s just nonsense. The new rules will make it harder for some freelancers to support a family. It will also make it harder for them to do what they want to do. I know this because I saw what happened in California. Four years ago, unions got Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez to push through a new law that reclassified gig workers. They were told they’d get higher wages, overtime and other benefits. Clueless media liked that. Vox called the law “a big win for workers everywhere.”

I think it's a money grab. When the government starts reclassifying all these contractors as "workers", now their employers have to start issuing W-2's and taking out taxes, therefore increasing the federal coffers. I guess that's easier than having to audit a bunch of self-employed workers.

I was a free-lancer most of my IT career. It paid me so much better to be a contractor (double or better). However, being self-employed, there was so much I could deduct off of my taxes as legitimate business expenses. I got audited one year because and they said I couldn't deduct a bunch of stuff because I took a short term rental rather than stay in a hotel. I pointed out that I could have done the hotel and I would have been able to deduct even more. They gave in. Honestly, going after the free-lancers will cost the government so much more in the long run and help the underground economy in the process.

More of the disastrous "command-and-control" economic theory. It does not work, never has, can't. This guy wanted to be President all his life. In the Senate, all he did was spend money by the billions, and act the domineering, sarcastic, vituperate boob.

Three crucial battleground states have experienced a drop in Democratic voter registration since late 2020 and ahead of a November rematch with former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, election data shows. Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania — which saw some of the closest presidential elections last cycle — all currently have less registered Democratic voters overall than in late 2020, according to the most recent state records. While Democrats still lead Republicans in party registration, the margins in these states are much smaller than before.

Obama’s imprimatur tells us how to comprehend Leave the World Behind. The movie speculates on the end of the world when white advertising executive Clay Sandford (Ethan Hawke), his wife Amanda (Julia Roberts), and their two teenage kids escape Manhattan luxury for a swanky Long Island summer retreat. There, the story develops a political consultant’s test-marketed consensus about the fears of Millennial Americans. The Sandfords react to a cyberattack, plus nature’s revolt, the way pollsters do: Everything is primarily about race.

A group of Westchester County residents is in a frantic fight to keep Donald Trump’s name emblazoned on their luxury high-rise — claiming a rigged condo election could foil their bid, The Post has learned. About two dozen tenants at the 40-story, 194-unit Trump Plaza in New Rochelle want the former president’s name to stay on the building even after his management company got the boot but say anti-Trump members of the condo board are trying to fix the system in their favor. “They promised us that they would be an apolitical board, but they’re not.

An attorney for one of the two IRS whistleblowers who alleged a Justice Department cover-up in the tax investigation of Hunter Biden accused Attorney General Merrick Garland Thursday of allowing conflicts of interests that have led to alleged retaliation against his clients — and prosecutors aiding the president’s son in criminal cases. In a letter obtained by The Post, Empower Oversight president Tristan Leavitt demanded Garland “put a stop” to any retaliation against the IRS agents and eliminate conflicts of interest related to cases involving the first son. “On issues related to the whistleblowers, Department attorneys and Hunter Biden’s attorneys are simply not adversarial in these cases,” Leavitt said.

The current status of the New York civil fraud case that New York Attorney Letitia James filed against Donald Trump, and that resulted in a huge ruling against him, thanks to Judge Arthur Engoron, is just a little bit of a puzzle. In the short term, Trump is on defense, but the wheels of justice should turn and place him on offense. Understanding that requires us to look at the logic of the law, a subject at once fascinating and exacting and, sometimes, very surprising. The role of logic in law is one of the features of the law that most non-lawyers misunderstand.

We want to be a welcoming city” but doing that without federal help “requires shared sacrifice, it requires compromise. So, we are both making cuts to city budgets to meet this financial need, and we are making cuts to the amount of services we can provide to the migrants that arrive and to the number of folks that we can serve.”

Speaker Johnson was asked by reporters why he changed his opinion on reforming Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), a controversial surveillance law that is meant to target foreign adversaries, but often surveils Americans’ communications without a warrant. Johnson this week came out against a warrant requirement for Section 702 and moved not to allow an amendment that would have barred intelligence and law enforcement agencies from purchasing Americans’ private information through third-party data brokers. First, they urged same-sex marriages to be legally recognized.
