Weighing 18,000 tons, the derailed train was nearly two miles long.
Industry insiders, Congressional members, and former Federal Railroad Administration leaders expressed shock at what Scripps News uncovered:
-Norfolk Southern gave large cash payouts to executives for achieving “record performance for train length and weight.”

House Republicans demand to know why the largest Christian school in the U.S. was slapped with a steep $37.7 million fine by the Biden administration.
They say the massive fine may based on 'political animus' and a tool of government weaponization being used by Biden's federal agency.
Grand Canyon University (GCU), the nation's largest Christian school, was allegedly fined for lying to 7,500 students about the cost of doctoral degrees in October 2023 to boost enrollment, according to the agency.
But GCU has denied the charges and is currently appealing the decision.

Disney is arguing it had a First Amendment right to fire 'Mandalorian' actress Gina Carano after she posted tweets that were out-of-step with the trans-rights movement, and an image the company claims was controversial as it pertained to the Holocaust.
Carano sued the House of Mouse in February claiming the company broke the law then it retaliated against her for expressing personal political beliefs.
Attorneys for the mega-entertainment brand filed a motion on Tuesday to dismiss the suit, arguing the company has a 'constitutional right not to associate its artistic expression with Carano's speech.'

A teenager planned to attack churches in a northern Idaho city using a metal pipe, butane fuel, a machete and, if he could get them, his father's guns, according to federal prosecutors who charged him with attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State group.
Authorities said Alexander Scott Mercurio, 18, adopted the Muslim faith against his Christian parents' wishes and was in contact with FBI informants posing as Islamic State group supporters.

An emergency has been declared after radiation was detected in a major Russian city. Authorities in the far eastern city of Khabarovsk have declared a state of emergency in an area where a "radiation source" was found, according to TASS news agency.
It said on Friday that elevated radiation levels were detected near a power pylon about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) from residential buildings.
No one had been injured or exposed to radiation and "there is no threat to the health of citizens", TASS quoted the local branch of Russia's consumer safety watchdog as saying.

A Washington state school is being accused of violating a 5th grader's First Amendment's religious freedom protections by denying her request to establish an on-campus interfaith prayer club.
An eleven-year-old girl's application to start a prayer group to bring together students of different faith backgrounds to 'serve their community' was rejected by Creekside Elementary School in Sammamish, Washington.
However, Creekside permits over a dozen other 'non-religious clubs' to meet including a Pride Club, which is a 'safe space' for educating students and staff on 'LGBTQIA+ history and people,' according to the school's website.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer remained silent after protesters in Dearborn, Michigan, who shouted "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" during an International Al-Quds Day rally were condemned by the White House and local leaders.
The hour-long rally was held in front of the Henry Ford Centennial Library on Friday and was led by local activist Takek Bazzi.
In the video, posted by the Middle East Media Research Institute, Bazzi denounced Israel and America.
"Death to America, Death to America," the protesters chanted.
"Death to Israel, Death to Israel," they echoed.

UCLA’s first-year medical students were required late last month to sit through a two-hour lecture on the subject of “Housing (In)Justice” that was part of a mandatory course on “structural racism” at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. UCLA’s guest lecturer was a left-wing homeless advocate, Lisa Gray-Garcia (pictured above), who told her captive audience of aspiring doctors that modern medicine is “white science.” Her pagan prayers to “Mama Earth,” which were part of Ms. Gray-Garcia’s presentation, included a blessing for “black,” “brown,” and “houseless people” who, she claimed, die because of the “crapatalist lie” of “private property.”

After Hamas supporters vandalized a synagogue with a swastika, leftist cheered this prototypical Nazi act as a progressive commitment to human rights.
“A swastika clearly has a deep and painful history for the people in our community, it’s a symbol of hatred and death,” Rabbi Ethan Witkovsky of Temple Beth El said.
However Malcolm Harris, a former Occupy Wall Street activist and author of ‘Palo Alto’ and other books published through Hachette, explained that swastikas were progressive now.
“Israel’s genocide has literally reversed the meaning of a swastika on a synagogue from a Nazi threat to a condemnation of genocide,” Harris, who also writes for The Nation and Wired, argued.

The same branch of Islamic State that US intelligence believes carried out last month's deadly terror attack in Moscow is likely behind today's threat made by ISIS against major cities hosting this week's Champions League quarter finals.
The Al Azaim Foundation, a media channel responsible for disseminating messages from the ISIS-K affiliate of the notorious terror group, shared a post threatening an attack on all four stadiums playing host to the fixtures in major European capitals.
This includes the Emirates Stadium in London - which will host Arsenal v Bayern Munich, and the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid - where Manchester City will take on Real Madrid, both tonight.

A veteran NPR editor has blown the whistle on how the publicly-funded broadcaster has become an activist organization obsessed with pushing progressive ideals.
Uri Berliner, a business editor at NPR for 25 years, has offered a glimpse into his belief that NPR has gone from a respected information source to one that can't be trusted to honestly cover the news.
In an essay for The Free Press, Berliner notes that while NPR has always had a liberal bent, the publication was not 'not knee-jerk, activist, or scolding' - something he says changed when Donald Trump entered the political arena.
