A recent FOIA request secured release of an article by an anonymous intelligence officer employed by the federal government’s Intelligence Community (IC), entitled “MY GENDER IDENTITY AND EXPRESSION MAKE ME A BETTER INTELLIGENCE OFFICER.” (snip) The far more dangerous document than the anonymous crossdresser’s silliness, is “Intelligence Community Directive 125,” issued on May 13, 2023, and titled, “Gender Identity and Inclusivity in the Intelligence Community.” (snip) Directive 125 commands the CIA and all other elements of the Intelligence Community, to “maintain a work environment free from discrimination and harassment based on … perceived gender.”

In 1998, San Francisco installed the latest cutting-edge technology to run the train network: floppy disks. A quarter of a century later and the city’s transportation agency is still using the same system.
People under the age of 30 might not know what a floppy disk is; an archaic way of storing data (think USB stick). But the workers at San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) sure do as they are still using obsolete tech to automate the movement of light rail vehicles. (snip) The SMFTA uses five-inch floppy disks to automatically control trains inside the subway.

The woman tasked with running the homeownership program for a Detroit nonprofit and helping people avoid losing their homes to foreclosure was named in a federal complaint for her role in stealing dozens of properties.
Zina Thomas, 60, of Detroit, was charged in a fraud scheme by the U.S. Attorney's Office, a release from the department said Wednesday. Prior to her arrest, she served as director of Homeownership Programs for the United Community Housing Coalition in Detroit.
The nonprofit provides housing assistance to the city's low-income residents. Thomas used her position as director to coordinate with other individuals to steal 30 properties across Wayne County.

Well, it was supposed to be a secret until all of the House Republicans were requalified to jump out of an airplane but leave it to Rep. Michael Waltz (R) to spill the beans about a historic jump that former military members will make on June 6 over Normandy.
"In Palatka getting ready to jump out of original C-47 transport planes over Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day with fellow veterans in Congress. June can’t come soon enough," stated Rep. Waltz.

It seems the National Organization for Women’s unhinged fanaticism of transgender athletes in women’s sports was even too much for the organization’s social media team. The so-called feminist group deleted a controversial post on X from March 31. It claimed that anyone who objected to biological men who wished to identify as women and compete in sports against real women was “white supremacist patriarchy at work.” (snip) NOW’s post should, undoubtedly, be the metaphorical nail in the coffin for the contemporary hyperbolic hysteria associated with the words “white supremacy” and “patriarchy.”

A recent study in the journal Nature: Communications Earth and Environment claims climate change is contributing to price inflation. The study’s authors say they found climate change harms economic productivity and food production, leading to higher prices. They examined more than 27,000 monthly consumer price index data points around the globe.
I can’t begin to describe all the ways this claim is not just outright false but is misleading in a manner clearly intended to motivate restrictions on fossil fuel production and use, policies which would in fact increase energy prices, harm food production, and result in lost jobs, higher prices, and lower incomes.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is considering a remarkable policy that would allow people to sue grocery stores that close too quickly.
Earlier this week, Supervisors Dean Preston and Aaron Peskin introduced an ordinance that, if passed, would require grocery stores to provide six months' written notice to the city before closing down.
Supermarket operators would also have to make "good faith" efforts to ensure the continued availability of groceries at their shuttered location, either through finding a successor store, helping residents form a grocery co-op, or any other plan they might work out by meeting with city and neighborhood residents.

New York City has agreed to pay a whopping settlement after a pair of women claimed their rights were violated when they were forced to remove their hijabs for mugshots.
A hijab is not a full-body garment. It covers only the hair and neck.
The city said it will fork over the $17.5 million settlement, (snip)
Ms. Clark, who was arrested on a violation of an order of protection in Manhattan in 2017, said she “wept and begged to put her hijab back on” while standing in Police Headquarters at One Police Plaza with the head scarf around her shoulders, according to the complaint.

An environmentalist nonprofit that seeks to cut carbon emissions and promote clean energy is suing to stop the Biden administration from funding a zero-emission power plant.
The Department of Energy (DOE) announced in January that it had approved a $1.1 billion credit payment to the Diablo Canyon Power Plant, a nuclear facility on the central California coast, to provide the plant with a path to avoid its planned shutdown in 2025. Though nuclear power plants produce negligible carbon emissions, Friends of the Earth (FOE), a group seeking to reduce carbon emissions, filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to block the DOE’s funding,

California’s fast food franchisees must hike their minimum wage to $20 an hour under a law Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) hailed as "extraordinarily beneficial." His own luxury restaurants, meanwhile, are paying their workers less.
Active job listings for Newsom's PlumpJack Cafe, which touts its status as "Lake Tahoe's premier dining destination," advertise "busser," "host," "server," and "food runner" positions with $16 hourly wages. The restaurant is located steps from Palisades Tahoe—California's top ski resort—and features a full bar, fine wines including a $5,300 bottle of Burgundy, and high-priced entrees.

I’m a big fan of revealed preference: watch what people do, not what they say. (snip) And here's a truth that some of my progressive readers might find uncomfortable: Americans love Florida. Lots of people are moving there, and relatively few people are leaving. (snip) The NBC story leaves a false impression, however, partly by relying on anecdotal evidence — (snip) But mostly because it implies that the rate of “movers’s remorse” in Florida is high. And statistically, it isn’t. (snip) But Florida isn’t like that: it has a high rate of in-migration and a low rate of out-migration:
