More Black and Latino voters favor Trump.
But GOP still needs to change its message.

Pollsters and pundits are fixated on whether former President Donald Trump will once again break Democratic dominance in the "blue wall" states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. But Republicans have a chance to break something much more substantial: the Democratic coalition.
Eight years after Trump coalesced white working-class voters under the Republican banner, he’s now making inroads with Black and Hispanic voters. Poll after poll shows Republicans closing the gap with Democrats among these demographics, which is a five-alarm fire for the left.

"If ya'll could be more like the leftists, we would like you!"
Reading between the lines, it is exactly what you think it is... a hit piece on Republicans in general and several direct shots at Trump.
What do ya expect from USA Today?

Spent a few days with my liberal (although somewhat realistic) friend. His feeling is that the Black and Hispanic folks should be Republican, because deep down, many share the conservative values of that party.
I'm not sure I agree, but if the Republicans can take 20-30% of the Black vote and nearly half the Hispanic vote, they should win. But like the Apostle Thomas, this is something I'm going to have to see to believe,

anything!! that is found in USA Today should be immediately deleted from consideration as real news, haven't read anything in that rag for many decades and don't plan on starting now
suggestion: this "newspaper" is best used to start the fire in your fireplace or wood stove

I read it so you don't have to.
fta:
Republicans should advocate for destroying bureaucratic barriers to opportunity, entrepreneurship and wage growth. They should call for leveling the playing field, ending subsidies for politically connected big businesses so that regular people can get small businesses off the ground.
Ultimately, they should promise to get government out of the way, because government is the biggest threat to opportunity for Americans of every background. A good practical example are South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott’s Opportunity Zones, which have spurred investment and entrepreneurship in struggling minority communities since 2017.
Sadly, the GOP isn’t doing enough to advocate for such policies. Instead of standing by its longtime principles of free markets and free people, Republicans are rallying around their own vision of government control − “industrial policy,” in which Washington, D.C., props up some industries at everyone’s expense.
----
Not sure what color the sky is on the author's planet but round here it is blue.
Number one, since when have real conservatives NOT advocated for a "level playing field," that is equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome? And the best way to do that is government out of the way. Reagan preached it. Trump preached it.
Number two, who in the MAGA camp doesn't despise the robber barons of the various complexes who are in cahoots with the RINOs and Democrats of the Swamp and thus (for a modest donation to various reelection campaigns or large kickbacks) receive the favor of the Swamp Creatures on legislation, judicial rulings, government contracts, etc? That would be no one. That is what Drain the Swamp meant and means.
Number three, big business is not inherently evil. Most employ a ton of people. They bring in jobs which in turn helps communities which helps small businesses too. Painting all small business as saintly and all big businesses as demons is not helpful or truthful.

Be encouraged that the two largest minorities are increasingly won over by messages of economic freedom, fewer obstacles to starting a business, and a rejection of destructive woke victimhood appealing to bitter malcontents. "Telling them what they want to hear" should be the same positive message of freedom and opportunity for all of us. Advocating it, as has the author, is smart and legitimate. Even if it appears in USA Today.

Most realize that Trump tried to fix the border, nearly had a deal that even Sen. Feinstein thought was good at the roundtable broadcast, but suddenly rejected the next day.
He simply wanted $5 billion to build a wall/barrierfence (call it what you want) to funnel people into the Ports of Entry locations for processing and allow Border Patrol to manage it better.
Democrats decided they wanted to deny Trump any sort of win, and wanted the issue to pummel against Republicans in the upcoming election(s).
Hispanics, in particular, are keenly aware of the horrible circumstances women and children have to deal with (sexual assaults very common).
And anyone in an inner-city is seeing the impact on everything but also with regards to jobs and wages.
