Democrats fume after Biden orders Yemen

Several Democrats on Capitol Hill scolded President Biden on Thursday for launching airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen without congressional approval, arguing that the action was unconstitutional. “The President needs to come to Congress before launching a strike against the Houthis in Yemen and involving us in another middle east [sic] conflict,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) tweeted. “That is Article I of the Constitution./snip/ “Section 2C of the War Powers Act is clear: POTUS may only introduce the US into hostilities after Congressional authorization or in a national emergency when the U.S. is under imminent attack,” Khanna went on.

OMG, FJB ordered an unconstitutional strike? He is destroying our democracy, what to do, what to do? And Congress feels left out out of the loop. Welcome to our world. s/o I doubt FJB ordered anything except another ice cream cone. However, it appears the dems are putting our Republic at stake, not MAGA. I'm not saying the strike should not have happened. Probably should have happened 6 weeks ago. But I do think it is funny that the dems are all a flutter over FJB, the rules and his toxic male masculinity.

I hate to say it, but, since when? The chief of the executive branch is the Commander in Chief. Not Congress. Even he wants to go to war, they can refuse to fund it, but in terms of orders to units in the field, he has the ultimate say and responsibility.

Amazing how many Americans have no idea what the Constitution says. The President has the authority to order an airstrike or other military operation but he cannot declare war. That takes an act of Congress. The funding is secondary.

The Constitution divides war powers between Congress and the president. The War Powers Resolution of 1973 requires only that the president notify Congress within 48 hours of conducting a military strike or operation and puts forth a 60 day time limit on armed forces remaining in combat for more than without Congressional approval. The Resolution in '73 was written by democrats to prevent another Republican president, like Nixon, from invading Cambodia; however, it was a democrat administration that placed US troops in Southeast Asia resulting in the decade-long, undeclared Vietnam War and its offshoots in Laos and Cambodia. What ignorant or evil democrats are claiming today, is that Biden. lacks the power to launch the strikes against the Houthis, who have attacked US facilities and troops in the ME; however, there is no sane reading of the Constitution that would come close what they claim. In fact, the Constitution allows a state to wage war if it is being invaded. There is also no sane conclusion that Texas is not being invaded, at the behest of a democrat administration and democrat anti-Americans in the U.S. Congress. Article 4 essentially compels the president to defend a state or states being invaded: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion..." a few tens of millions of foreign border crossers coming in to Texas unvetted, is as much of an invasion as if a mechanized division of Chinese troops splashed across the Rio Grande and headed up I-35 to link up with their allies in Minnesota and Canada. I suppose Minnesota and its fellow progressive travelers in the democrat party haven't read Article 4, as an Islamic form of government isn't anything close to a Republican form of government.

London has suspended several electric buses after a seemingly spontaneous fire broke out in a double-decker bus, sparking calls for a re-examination of every electric bus used in the capital’s fleet. We are about to embark on what might be one of the wildest years in the history of American politics, and it may end up merely a prelude. If 2024 is set to be tumultuous and unpredictable, just wait until 2025 if Donald Trump wins the presidency again this year. His adversaries don’t have a history of accepting his victories with equanimity. Trump’s unexpected victory in 2016 launched conspiracy theories about how Russia had helped him win; catalyzed a years-long law enforcement investigation into him and his campaign based on those theories; and set off protests in the streets. All that was mild, given what may yet be in the offing.

In January 2017, Haley went before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to be confirmed as ambassador to the United Nations (UN) in then-President Donald Trump’s administration. Sen.
