Pope Francis turned 87 on Sunday, closing out a year that saw big milestones in his efforts to reform the Catholic Church as well as health scares that raise questions about his future as pope.
Francis celebrated his birthday with cake during a festive audience with children Sunday morning, and there were “Happy Birthday” banners in St. Peter’s Square during his weekly noon blessing.
One early present came Saturday, when a Vatican tribunal handed down a mix of guilty verdicts and acquittals in a complicated trial that Francis had supported as evidence of his financial reforms. The biggest-name defendant, Cardinal Angelo Becciu, was convicted of embezzlement.

They need to cement-shoe his legacy. This guy is the vatican version of Joe Biden.

Converting the church to communism is hardly reform.
As for 'reformation,' that's already been done and dusted. Martin Luther ring a bell? Protestantism? Any Christian who doesn't want to be a Catholic has that option. Lots of options.
AP rubbish as usual.

We can hope he goes to meet his one true God, Lucifer, prior to 88!

You know there is a problem when the liberal media speaks glowingly about the Pope.

This Roman Catholic is not a fan of the Carter-Biden version Pope. In my 80 years, he's the worst ever!

Normally when we think of "reform" it is assumed that things are being made better to work more efficiently.
The kind of "reform" ILL Papa is involved in Liberation Theology perverting the proper role of the Papacy to spread the Gospel of Christ and not the 'gospel' of socialism and "I'm OK, you;re OK"
To NoBama and the Wookie, "reform" is to DESTROY the NORMS of American Culture and civil society, by breaking it into a thousand pieces and RECONSTRUCTING it to fit a European socialist way so that the middle class is destroyed and everyone gets dependent upon government and its corrupt leaders.
We are all children of God and everyone should be treated as the Golden Rule proclaims to be treated as we would want to be treated. The gift or salvation by grace is a free gift and does not require a person to grant forgiveness, and many Christians are often vile people treating those who are not badly rather than showing grace and love without perversion of Scripture or "making up" a different Gospel.

we need reform in the Church alright but
- it should be a reversal of doctrine back to the 50's when
- "the church" was "the church"

"Is the Pope a Catholic" becomes a serious question rather than a humorous remark.

The biggest change is the old joke about "Is the pope catholic?" no longer rings true. Many people wonder that daily.

“While Francis’ health scares punctuated his 87th year, perhaps the biggest milestone of all, and one that is likely to shape the remainder of Francis’ pontificate, was Benedict’s Dec. 31 death. Benedict largely stuck to his promise to live “hidden to the world” and allow Francis to govern unimpeded. But his death after 10 years of retirement removed the shadow of a more conservative pope looking over Francis’ shoulder from the other side of the Vatican gardens. His death has seemingly freed up Francis to accelerate his reform agenda and crack down on his right-wing opponents.”
This makes me ill.

Cement his 'legacy'. Other than discord and being a non-pope there is nothing he is going to cement or will be remembered for.

#2 Not so good. My grandfather who was raised Catholic in a Protestant family took me aside before he died and said: "If you are ever poor, start your own church. The women will give you money" I won't go into detail about his experience. Jesus advised to go into your own closet to honour God.
